Hey guys I’m 25, and it’s barely been 6 days into my recovery! If you’re scared don’t be! You won’t feel anything during the surgery you will be completely asleep. Right now my throat is in pain and the pain is radiating to both my ears, mostly my right ear but that’s to be expected since your lymph nodes and nerves are closely connected. My doctor has prescribed me pretty strong pain relieving medicine which honestly takes about 90% of the pain away! I know if you’re reading this you are completely scared and that’s okay it’s a scary operation, but take it one step and one day at a time! And soon you will recover just as quickly and go back to your regular life :) good luck and I wish you well my friend! You got this!

I got my tonsillectomy done at age 25. The procedure went smoothly, I was in the hospital for only 4 hours. My doctor was great and explained everything clearly so I knew what was going to happen. When the anesthesia wore off once I got home, that’s when I felt the pain. My throat was white from where the tonsils were removed and I had 2 large holes. My uvula got extremely swollen, which made it hard to eat or drink. The pain was manageable, after the 5th day I was used to it and i barely noticed any pain anymore. I didn’t eat solid foods until day 11 after the surgery. I hardly talked at all until 2 weeks after the surgery. I slept a lot, which is crucial in the recovery process. The worst part about the surgery was the taste of the skin healing... it made me want to throw up. I had really bad breath.

I had a tonsillectomy done in october 2021 for extremely holed tonsils and pain due to stones in my tonsils. I was so excited to get them out and finally live without throat pain and smelly breath. I knew it was a big price to pay though, hearing everyones stories saying “its the worst recovery ever” and boy it sure was. I was one of those 5% chances of a severe bleeding. It was about 1 week into healing, the scabs were falling off prematurely and opened a small vessel and it would constantly bleed. The first time it happened i was absolutely freaked out, especially after reading online “if you have any bleeding, contact your physician immediately” making me think id die if i wasnt seen asap. This caused me to have a horrible anxiety attack making me pass out on and off. Lucky for me, the passing out must’ve restricted my vessels cause the bleeding slowly stopped. Went to the hospital and they made me stay over night, so that if there was any bleeding again, theyd cauterize it. Stayed the night and there was no bleeding so i went home happy. Next day, i bleed again. Thats when i go to the hospital agaaain, and thats finally when they decide to cauterize me. So i had to get a second surgery, and after that one, i healed perfect. Now i live normally. So if you’re thinking of getting yours out, it better be hella worth it.

For all those who will go through this procedure I cannot express how much my life has changed for the better. Allergies caused my tonsils and adenoids yearly issues that caused an infection in my lungs and tonsil stones every single year! After having them removed I was down and out for a few weeks but I don't have the issues I had before. I use a prescription nasal spray when needed and sometimes eye drops. But if your afraid to get the procedure, don't be. It is all for the better and your health will improve. It might be scary to get an IV done but the surgery is worth it and when detected by a medical doctor should be taken care of.

My daughter in the age of 3.5 year had tonsillectomy, for few months I was good, she can eat everything , but after some months, she started having respiratory diseases and allergies with so much cough every time specially in winter season, so if you get a cold or dust allergy you will get respiratory infections after tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy... Not worth having tonsillectomy, only the benefit is you can swallow everything easier , but the other side effects are there...you can't get rid of antibiotics and medicines or any permanent use of nasal sprays even after that because after surgery long term effects for other infections are waiting for you...

Best Tonsillectomy Recovery Ever!!! Age 21 Day 1- Before the surgery They messed up my Iv but whatever. It didn’t hurt that bad. I generally have pretty bad needle anxiety but for some reason I was really chill. Then I dressed myself up and got wheeled out after they put heart monitor patches on my chest. Anesthesia: The doctor was really nice. Put it in while I was being wheeled in a bed to the operation room. They told me I wouldn’t remember most of it and I remember speaking like 2 sentences before I was out. I felt a little lightheaded but not dizzy. Pretty pleasant. Kinda felt a little like nitrous oxide but it took a little extra work to really connect what I was saying to the words that were coming out of my mouth to the doctors lmao. I was just a little slower and then boom. Before I even knew it I was out and I have some good drug tolerance. I figured I could fight it a little longer haha. It didn’t feel hot. Maybe a little chilly but nothing unbearable. I only felt it in my hand before I was out and it definitely wasn’t a panic inducing feeling for me. After the Surgery: I woke up feeling like I slept a good nights worth of sleep. Wide awake! I didn’t sleep on the 2hr drive home and my meds took about 4 HOURS for me to get. 😤🙅‍♂️ Talking right away. Singing right away. Smoking right away 🤷🏻‍♂️ Coughing is even fine. The only thing that is annoying are the hiccups. By day 2 the pain was the same but half of my scabs have already formed AND fallen off. Day 3: a little more sore but that’s bc the hotdogs were NOT a good choice lmao. Citrusy popsicles or soda didn’t feel good on this day either but it really only was THIS day. It’s Day 4: my scabs are completely gone. Just a little green fluid in the back. The only thing is that I’m tired all the time but I need to wake up every 4 hours to take my medicine. Yawning isn’t bad but it is uncomfortable. I have only heard bad stories and I figured prepare for the worst... but it would have been nice to see some good recoveries out there too! I hope some people can relate!!

It can happen, but it does not happen as often as news reporters and the internet like to make it sound. Before the surgery, the patient is asked if they use drugs like marijuana, or other certain medications that can interact with the anesthesia. It's so important to be honest about any drug use, including alcohol and medications (though marijuana and opioids are the big ones). They won't tell the police, don't worry :) if you're honest and you follow the pre-surgery instructions, your chance of waking up is minimal.

I had my tonsils and adenoids removed almost 5 years ago and I remember that the night before my surgery I stayed up late and ate a little bit. I have low blood sugars so I have to eat every 3 hours but I couldn’t eat the morning before surgery so yee. We made sure it was in the time period that I was allowed to eat before surgery. Later that night there were really bad storms. My anxiety was just awful back then so I asked my mom if we could go downstairs and blow up the blow up bed so we did. I didn’t get much sleep. My little sister was staying with my grandma because I didn’t want her to see me in pain afterwards. Plus she is quite loud and annoying. We went to the hospital and they went over what they were gonna do. They had these little toy cars in the Hospital so they let me drive one to the surgical room. It helped relieve my anxiety quite a bit so I really appreciated that. I got onto the surgical bed and then the anesthesiologist explained to me what she was about to do, so she put the mask thing on me and told me to count backwards from 10. I did and when I got to 8 I heard them complaining on my red hair-the ironic thing about that is it takes more anesthesia to get a red head to go to sleep for some reason so I’m just there thinking “why are you talking as if I’m sleeping” I got down to 0 and was still slightly awake when I felt a bit stronger of a sent of the anesthesia because it smelled like bubblegum or something. The next thing I know I’m in the recovery room with a few other beds near me and there was gold nail polish and a monster high puzzle at the end of my bed. Back then I was obsessed with monster high so I thought that was just the best thing. There was a nurse who handed them to me when she saw I was awake and asked me if I wanted to go see my parents. I nodded my head yes, so she and some other nurses took me back to the room I was originally in. Then I fell asleep. After a few rounds of sleeping for about an hour and being awake for five minutes I finally stayed awake and the nurse asked me if I wanted a popsicle. I nodded yes again and she brought me one along with my medicine. I took the medicine and ate the popsicle. The majority of that popsicle melted and fell down onto the covers of the bed I was on lol. Next thing I know I’m itching all over my body and my mom notices and sees that I’m breaking out all over my body. I was allergic to the medicine. My mom got a nurse who then put some antibiotics (I think lol) into my IV. The rash went away after awhile. When I was finally ready to go home I had had probably an entire pack of popsicles of which I probably only got a third of into my mouth XD. The nurse told my parents to switch between giving me three Ibuprofen and two tyenall (I can’t spell lmao) every three hours. After about three and a half days of that I couldn’t take the taste of them anymore (I took the ones that melt in your mouth cuz I couldn’t swallow pills and with just having my tonsils removed there was no way I was going to learn how). I found sneaky ways of hiding the fact that I hadn’t taken them from my parents. They found out though and tried to convince me to take them. They ended up calling the doctor who said that it was fine that I wasn’t taking them as long as I didn’t have a ton of pain. I ended up going through more than half of the recovery time without medicine and the two “most painful days” when the scabs fall off. How-no idea. But yeah overall I got to miss a ton of school and didn’t need to make it up so that was epic lol.

I had both out when i was 8 due to having strep throat every other week for a year and nearly dying from them closing. Worst 3 weeks of my life. I couldn't eat anything due to the pain and if i drank something it felt like i was drowning. But i have no regrets in the end for the most part. And i ate so much freaking ice cream that week (I've been hearing people saying they weren't allowed dairy products. That's bs cause it helped me so much and i probably wouldn't have been okay if not) I'm greatful to never have strep throat again, but am disappointed that every time I've gotten a nasel drop since, it's hurt like hell. To those about to get theirs out. I wish you luck and you will not regret it in the end.

My brother was three or four when he got his adenoids removed and tubes put in his ear (around 10-11 years ago), and just today my sister, five, got both her tonsils and her adenoids removed. She keeps humming to herself and she’s hardly talking. I can’t imagine how much pain she’s in, but this was really informative to what happened during the surgery.

Most of all I liked the phrase about anaesthesia. You know, my adenoids were removed in far away 1997 in Minsk, and I was only 6 years old. The doctor had given me only local anaesthesia and nobody paid attention to the allergic reaction that occurred. As a result, I have felt everything and turned blind for at least 30 seconds because of pain and shock. I will never ever forget that day.

I got my tonsils and adenoids removed on 2/5/2022. (I'm 15) I got them removed because I had tonsilitis since December last year. The surgery took only 15 minutes and I stayed in the hospital overnight. I was given lots of fluids and pain medication to help. I was severely dehydrated and had my blood pressure monitored every couple of hours. For the first day, I only ate soft, cold foods such as ice cream, jelly and yoghurt. On the second day, I was told to start eating normally again but not to eat any food that was hot. I still ate softer foods such as noodles and pasta. On the third day, it was basically the same. I sleep a lot because of the pain medication I was given. I still struggle to talk and I have a very raspy voice. When I wake up, the pain is insane but after taking medication it settles down. The back of my throat is super swollen which makes it hard to eat and I'm starting to get scabs.

I got this procedure done when I was twelve. It was a pretty easy thing to go through. The doctors even took a picture of me with the shower cap on while I was all loopy from the sedative and stuff. The one thing that still bugs me to this day about my procedure is that, instead of removing a portion of my uvula like they were supposed to, they just removed it entirely. My uvula was so large that it touched my tongue and made me have serious snoring problems. Now I have no uvula...it sucks.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who isn't a child and who's starting to feel some of symptoms of these tonsil whatever you call it. Only prob I have currently is the feeling of blockage of my airway or hard to swallow in general. It's pretty swollen from my self-examination, this is the first it really bothered me, though, it seems people who have removed them seem indifferent or better. I rarely get sick so I prob should consider this surgery and get them removed so I can probably sing louder.

My daughter who is 8 had hers done 2days ago. I must say she is a solider fr fr. Her little butt was scared to death before the surgery when she got into recovery she was fine and the nurses said she didn't ask for any pain meds or say it hurts. They said the only thing she asked for was water. Got her home she still didn't complain of pain. She threw up a lot but I truly think that was the anesthesia wearing off. 2 days later she still really won't eat food but still drinking and eating ice cream and stuff and still has complained of pain. I don't know if she is not telling me it hurts cause she doesn't like to take pain meds but she sticking it out and still talking her ass off and swallowing.

Me and my brother were born with abnormally large tonsils. Mine weren't too huge where it became a problem, but my brother's was. He became malnutritioned since he couldn't swallow, and had to get them removed

honestly i just wanna say how thankful and happy i am that i got this operation done when i was 20. coz i have friends who got this done with a local anesthetic :) and every one of them described it as pure torture and hell for 20 minutes. can not fucking imagine getting this done and also being awake at the same time, nope. my country really had some weird ways but damn i'm lucky that i had this problem now and not like 10 years ago lol.

I got mine removed when I was in 6th grade (now 23) and couldn’t eat or drink. Then a week later started spitting bright red blood and then puked it (since it was going in my stomach from the back of my throat) then had to have a second surgery that night. Then I was fine.

I suffered with chronic bulging tonsils. They never went back down after getting tonsilitis at 9yrs old. Interfere with my breathing, sleep apnoea was bad. I finally got mine removed on the 8th of October this year at 27yrs old. Only now did I decide to watch how it's done. I think I've handled it pretty well, every one recovers differently. Managing it with paracetamol and ibuprofen. Day 3 is when it got worse. Constant pain in ear, throbbing head ache and very swollen sore throat. Swallowing is a struggle and when it's bad it's like someone's drilling a needle into your ear. But it can only get better from here.

I removed my tonsils when I was 14 After the surgery it was hard to swallow my saliva..I was feeded only soft food for a month or two..it was hard,took me like half of a year to fully recover from the pain but now I'm 19 and I'm doing just fine. I made the right choice and my voice tone changed too... It's indeed No Pain No gain..make your choices it's your life..

I was about 4 when my tonsils were removed. I still remember going into the hospital that night and trying to play with a rainbow coloring thing but my mom kept wanting me to try on cute hats for some reason. I remember my disappointment that I didn't get to play with what I wanted because the doctor walked in, but I don't really remember much else for that day. I vividly remember waking up though. I was on a white bed hospital bed, surrounded by strangers in white, everything was so bland in color, and tubes were coming out of me. Of course, I was a little four (ish) year old with severe anxiety, so waking up in a weird place with unfamiliar people was not okay, and I instantly started screaming. The doctors couldn't calm me down and I wouldn't let them touch me without thrashing so they eventually had to go get my parents. I'm pretty sure this was immediately after the surgery as I hadn't been moved to a proper room so my parents weren't supposed to enter there, but I wasn't having it. My parents came in and I stuck to my mom's arm like a koala, so the doctors had to let my mom be really close to the bed while pushing it to the room I was meant to be in (I think they had to actually let my mom lay on the bed with me at one point). My dad was upset that I called for my mom instead of him. The rest of my time at the hospital was happy, I mostly remember eating purple Popsicles and seeing my grandpa come in and smile. I think I stayed there for about 2 or 3 days since I was so small. And I had to use this weird machine at night that I don't remember anything about besides it was loud. Also I might have hurt my throat from screaming but I don't remember.

Had my tonsils taken out and today is recovery day six. 8/18. Surgery day 0 was 8/12. I'm one of those cases that aren't really that bad. I read all the horror stories I'm sure you're reading before your surgery and nearly canceled mine lol. I've been managing pain with just tylenol and ibuprofen. I've been able to eat and drink okay. I opted not to talk because I don't want to strain my throat. My tip with that is to get an Alexa. On the app you have the announcement option and I type everything I need to say outloud and it reads it out for me. Also get a humidifier. I tried without and woke up with a dry patch in my throat around the 3rd night. It started making me cough and omg after I slurped down some jello to stop it, I went straight on Amazon and ordered one for next day delivery 😵‍💫. Cold coconut water helps. The potassium and magnesium helps with wound healing. I've been eating salmon once a day because the nutrients in that really helps and its easy to chew up and swallow. I hope this helps.

Why did you decide to get them removed? Was it due to bad breath sore throats swollen lymph nodes?
@rita1869
@rita1869 Жыл бұрын
@@vmr623 My tonsils were huge to the point it would hurt to talk because of the pressure on my vocal cords. Also tonsil stones were playing a role and causing bad breath.

I'm getting mine out August 9th I'm so happy!!! Last year has been so horrible due to 4 cases of strep in the whole year. :/ I hit this major depression because I had no idea what was wrong with me! I went to my ENT doc around April & he said I looked okay when in reality I felt like shit I kept explaining what my symptoms were and he just said "come back if it worsens" all along I knew were my tonsils but I guess he wanted me to come back and see if I got worse! I stopped talking to everyone because having tonsillitis causes very bad breath! I hit depression and anxiety!!!! For a whole year!!! Until last month I decided to go back again and demand to get them removed!!!! I just came back from my appt and I'm happy to say I'm getting them removed!!!!! It has been one hell of a year!!!! A very uncomfortable year :/!!! And now I'm glad I'm starting a new chapter guys!!!! Yay for surgery.!!
