Yes yes blair’s a war criminal, but he was perhaps the best PM the UK has had since Thatcher ( despite her being arguably more hated by the general public than Blair ) The UK never had it better under Blair, not before, not since. 2000s UK was a paradise, even better than living in the US. Shame he went on to involve the UK in a 21st century war.

He was always a con man. Remember Leo and the MMR 2001 vaccination. I read in his wife's biography, that it was her decision not to get Leo vaccinated, but my comments on that always get deleted. Google re-writes history and Tony has influence over that.

Here is my advice which you didnt listen to in 2002. If you are at war with the Taliban, finish the war first before you go invade someone else because the Taliban might win. And Osama might escape. If you go to war in a country to respond to 911 you should pick a country where the actual hijackers came from. If you are going to war with whoever helps Bin Ladin you look really stupid when you stop at the border of your ally Pakistan and pretend nobody knows hes there. If you overthrow a dictator do not obliterate the entire civil service infrastructure or fire the entire army because the country will collapse into chaos. If you take over a country do not put incompetent cronies in charge if big important things like power and water. If you cause a refugee crisis dont complain about immigration. If you dont have good evidence someone is going to attack you then dont flash it in front of the UN because it might be a lie. If you want to set up an international rules based order after WWII to stop wars then dont break those rules unless you are under imminent existential threat. If you come into power then pay attention to security and dont blow off warnings from people about impending attacks. If you want to stop religious fanatic terrorists then maybe stop allying with them for decade after decade after decade. If you want to spread democracy then listen to your own people.

@2 mins in What private sector businesses have actually improved their service post IT revolution? Only convincing case might be booking hotels and airline tickets, but the total time to travel by air when you include all the post 911 bs is far greater than it was in 1985. Only thing it’s been good for is information, at a pretty low level. Like basic articles and wikipedia. That’s something I guess, but in a world where two thirds of the economy are service sector jobs like waiters, baristas,medical workers, plumbers etc, things are arguably more lame and repulsive

Ah wow, it went ALL the way off the rails in the last sentence. "Lesson planning isn't part of the core skills of a teacher" what???

My girlfriend is an elementary teacher, and she and her colleagues definitely laments lesson planning. My impression is they find it more useful for more inexperienced teachers, but more seasoned teachers often don't feel the need to be nearly so reliant on strict preset plans, often opting for a more spontaneous, personalized approach.

@joestojanovic6613 What is a war crime and how does one prove one is guilty of war crimes? Why hasn't the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Tony Blair if he's suspected of committing war crimes? Why do you claim to know that he is guilty when there hasn't even been a court trial? Britain invading Iraq is not proof of war crimes.

This comment section is interesting, with many people calling him a "war criminal"... perhaps, it is actually justified to some degree, I don't know. But, the fact that so many independent people use this exact specific term, so quickly after the video is published, suspiciously looks like you-know-what... I wonder, what exactly Blair said which upset them so much? Personally, I didn't particularly care about Blair before, but this actually makes me more interested in the rest of the interview.

It goes back to the war on Iraq being based on BS, long before the modern trend of trollbots.
@Stopfief
@Stopfief 21 күн бұрын
It might not be bots. A segment of the British population are so embittered over Iraq that they won't let go of the past, and Iraq is all they ever talk about whenever Blair's name is mentioned - this has gone on for decades. At least Blair's not as divisive as Thatcher was, though. The UK went mental when she died.
@highdefinist9697
@highdefinist9697 21 күн бұрын
@@Stopfief That's a good point, maybe you are right. From the outside, Blair looks just like one of several such questionable people, GW Bush perhaps being the most notable one, but British people themselves might plausibly perceive it as more "personal" if it involves one of their own politicians.

To me this is a big problem with internet media culture. It's so incredibly easy to turn off and tune out anyone and anything that we don't want to hear for any reason. I am personally extremely critical of Tony Blair both as a person and as a leader, but I trust that Dwarkesh has good reasons for asking him to come on the podcast and will listen to the episode in full when I have time before I make a judgement on whether or not I agree with his decision.
