@@musek5048 Rodney is the equivalent of the guy who invented podcasting and tony is the joe rogan of it. Rodney basically evented the sport and tricks. Tony would copy rodneys flat tricks on the vert. He straight up said he copied what rodney did but on a vert in a 2 part interview they did together. Rodney is so humble he refuses to take credit for anything.
@musek50482 жыл бұрын
@@dontcare7086 he refuses because he knows that's not technically true, he might have invented a few innovative tricks like the Ollie and kick flip but I get the feeling in that era of early skating there was probably dudes doing crazy new tricks no one had seen but Rodney was able to bring attention to it through competitions. He truly deserves credit though since he's a true prodigy with how easily he picks out tricks and combines them to try something new.

I got my first skateboard in the early 1960's. We rode on the sidewalks and it was called "sidewalk surfing". They had clay wheels that would skid to a halt on the tiniest pebble. In the early 1970's I was the first one in my circle of friends to have wide trucks and neoprene wheels that I mounted in a long aluminum board that had great flex. My thing was to hitchhike to the tops of hills and ride back down... without a helmet, and somehow I survived! I continued riding into my mid 30's and decided it was time to quit when I had children to take care of.

My nephew Marty used to skate with Tony. He has broken many bones. First one was skating in a ditch near a school, broke his arm on that venture. Once he drove to Charleston for an HVAC job and broke his ankle at a skate park. My Dad had to drive down and bring him back to town. Needless to say he doesn't skateboard much anymore. They built a big skateboard ramp behind a house here that lasted for a good while. I think they actually moved it to Charlotte when he moved there. We used to skateboard behind cars with ski ropes in the 60's. Lots of road rash from that.

@woodystemms37994 жыл бұрын
I'd like to see the kid try riding a Real skateboard, circa 1965. Not one of the plastic-wheel, wide axle, contraptions. The originals took talent and skill to run downhill / slalom. If you want to try, here's how to do it: Go to a real roller skate shop and buy a skate plate ... use a hacksaw to cut it in half. Bolt each wheel/axle unit to a piece of plywood. Jump onboard. Simple. Every time you take a tight turn, the compost wheels will skid an inch or so ... controlled skid. You can't use it like a scooter ... no one-leg flat ground ... just downhill slalom ( with gloves & helmet ... maybe. )
@USMCArchAngel034 жыл бұрын
See, when Joe says he doesn't understand how skateboarding got so extreme, I question what his life was really like growing up. Any two boys who ever built a bike ramp and decided to make it bigger can tell you exactly how we got to this point. It's simply because I want to be able to do what you can't and tell you about it.
