Probably the most constant songwriters in American music. Brilliant and I was lucky enough to see him firstly on the Graceland tour a the last was around a decade ago in Manchester England. My personal favourite songwriter.

I’d love to hear a collaboration with Levin and Brian May, yes an oddball comment, but it just occurred to me. Musically high intellect coming together. Would have to have an intense drummer and vocalist too.

This is one of my all-time favorite examples of great lyric writing. The verses seem verbose and hard to sing off the tongue, yet they are simple-- it's the massive inner-line rhyme that fools you. Then the chorus seems over-simplistic, even child -like, but again, sophisticated use of rhyme in that it's the last two words at the end of each line that rhyme (not the last word of each line rhyming with the last word of the following line). Try that one on for size! Great march-time snare, like a battle, as it were, with a somewhat sinister feeling coming from the guitar-- not to mention that tempting femme fatale! As an aside, before this song came out, there was a ridiculous series of on-going beer commercials that captured the masses attention with a character named "Ray" whose schtick was Ray always saying,: "You can call me Ray, or you can call me Jay..........etc.". Just some stupid, childish rhymes that was a super popular series of commercials. I often wondered if Simon took a cue from this, and showed how to do it like a master😊.

ChatGPT confirmed that Paul Simon studied with Don Sebesky. I've always wondered how he made the musical leap from folk to smooth jazz. I heard him say in another interview that he had to write at a higher level in order to secure the top session musicians he wanted to work with. Everybody was paid scale so they would only play with the artists that held their interest.
