People talk about how Drew Brees was a second round pick, Russell Wilson a third rounder and of course Brady going all the way down to the 6th round. Well don’t forget, Tony was undrafted and turned into a 10 year franchise QB in the NFL.

Michael Ramirez - You’re right, he’s not in that elite group with Joe Flacco, Jeff Hostedler, Nick Foles, Doug Williams, Mark Rypen, Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer. He’s in the non elite group with Marino, Kelly, Tarkington, Fouts, Warren Moon....Except all those guys were drafted. Sadly, it takes a team to win a Super Bowl.
@sloebone7399
@sloebone7399 4 жыл бұрын
Where does that leave Carson Wentz? He’s got a Super Bowl ring but he didn’t actually play in the game. Foles jumped in, won the playoff games and was Super Bowl MVP. Is he elite? Basing a career on a Super Bowl is pretty short sided. If somebody could have done more with that Cowboys team, they had 10 years to find him.

Harupert Beagleton Yeah dude. I wanted him back in when he got healthy. That playoff game against the Packers...we come up short by 3 points. If Tony had been in, we win that game and advance. thistoob Whoooooooa whooooa man. Hold fast. Let’s get some things straight. First of all, the reason they didn’t let Tony back in is simply because they didn’t wanna mess up a good thing and tanker with the Hot streak that the team was on. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. They had won 8 straight games and they didn’t wanna change anything. Which is the correct move. Romo then asked for the chance to compete for his job and they told him No. why?? Cause they KNEW Tony would’ve absolutely earned the job back but they feared it would cause a ripple in the locker room. Lastly, let’s face facts. Dak was able to shine in 2016 because of Zeke. Point blank period. Imagine if there had been No Zeke....think about that. Nothing against Dak. Just facts.

Nobody showed the true spirit of being a Dallas Cowboy more than Tony Romo. He may not have won a super bowl but he fought through everything he went through with the highest level of class. Every mistake he made he learned from and every injury he got he came back a stronger man. Watching him make that last touchdown drive against Philly will always be my favorite “last dance” moment in sports. He did everything he could for the team and sacrificed injury so many times just to keep on going for the team. I haven’t missed a Cowboys game since like 2005 when I was 9-10 years old and I’ll tell you Tony was more talented overall. More consistently accurate, also felt like before each drive “something magical” was going to happen with Tony at the helm. With Dak it usually feels like “we might score we might not” like it’s more of a grounded feeling with Dak almost doubt. I like most Cowboy fans miss Tony and we were all a prisoner of the moment in 2016 when our team as a whole was having much success (I believe we started 10-1 or 11-1) that we forgot who we built our team around in the 1st place. I think he’s down about the fact that the season he feels like he’s got it together, it gets taken away with injuries and circumstances. Being injured my junior year I was mentally and physically ready for my senior year to prove to myself that I was built for the game. Unfortunately I tore my cartilage out of my knee before the season even got started and never got my answer. I’m thankful my education got me far in life but almost every day I think “what if I played my senior year.” To be honest it still bothers me looking back but I relate as in “things happen for a reason.” And being thankful that you have your health and found a new career that you enjoy. Such as Romo finding a new passion for sports commentary. I think he’s down but I think he’s at peace with it at the same time. It’s not what you may have wanted but new opportunities come for you to thrive elsewhere...

The only reason why Tony Romo doesn't have a Super Bowl ring is that football is THE ultimate team sport. If Tony was provided with the rosters given to former Cowboy QB's Don Meredith and Danny White, the Star would have at least 1 more Lombardi Trophy on display. I understand that Romo played in a pass happy era, but he is Number #1 in Cowboy's history in passer rating, yards, touchdown passes, and comeback victories. Prime example of Romo's individual talents occurred during the 2013 season when the Cowboys had the worst defense in the league and the worst defense in Cowboy's history. Romo literally willed the Cowboys to 8 wins in the first 15 games, but suffered a season ending back injury in Week 16.

DAVID: If you knew your Cowboys history, you would know that Romo NEVER had a defense comparable to the Doomsday Defense (e.g., 1966-1982) or the defensive units afforded to Troy Aikman from 1992-1996. Notice how Aikman became a JAG (e.g., Just Another Guy) when the Cowboy's roster wasn't loaded on both sides of the ball?

@pjtheory
@pjtheory 4 жыл бұрын
DAVID: Your understanding of context is slim and Slim left town. Just a few examples. In the last 3 years of Don Meredith's career, the Cowboys were ranked Number 2, 7, and 4 in Total Defense whereas the only salient comparison during the Romo years occurred from 2007-2009 when the Cowboy's ranked Number 9, 8, and 9 in Total Defense. To compare the defensive talent between the 2 squads, however, is a joke. From 1992-1996, Troy Aikman was provided a defense that ranked Number 1, 10, 1, 9, and 3 in Total Defense. Compare that to the defensive units provided to Romo from 2010-2014. In that 5 year period, the Cowboys were ranked Number 23, 14, 19, 32, and 19 in Total Defense. If you replaced Romo with Meredith, White, or even Aikman on those squads, it is unlikely that the Cowboys would win more than 4 games during their 3 consecutive 8-8 seasons, and Romo's 2014 regular season remains the greatest statistical season (e.g., QB rating) in franchise history.

He’s never had a defense ranked lower than 15, Demarcus Ware was only one player. If Romo didn’t score 30+ they would lose.
