How can you guy's on here even compare the two!!! Both Masters of the instrument!!!!! They were totally different players! One was a big band drummer in an era where you had a individual style and you had to drive 18 guys next to you on the bandstand. The other a contemporary complete musician who played "outside the box" if you can put it that way!! Tony was an "unorthadox" drummer who played over the barline in such a musical way! To challenge and favour one over the other is not fair!

¡¡Qué extraordinario baterista !! Y pensar que cuando empezaba en 1973 en el grupo de MILES DAVIS , uno de los mejores bateristas de jazz clásico : JO JONES ( no confundir con el baterista de jazz moderno PHILLY JOE JONES ) comentó algo así como ¡¡ Ese muchachito no llegará a nada !!. Me recordó cuando en 1913 se estrenó en Paris LA CONSAGRACION DE LA PRIMAVERA de STRANVINSKY , y entre la enorme cantidad de público que gritaba ¡¡ fuera , fuera !! estaba un gran músico consagrado : SANT SAENS

you know each time i mention to someone that tony is better than buddy in exactly the way you;v mentioned they all jumped on me , because buddy is a huge legend and you can;t touch him , well i don;t agree with that , but hey ... this days everybody is crazy about speed you know purdie ? great drummer , lots of feeling but not to much speed , or take for example big sid cattlet , a smooth drummer .
