I always loved the sound of Bev's solid drumbeat and continuity and that's initially what drew me to the Move, and later, ELO. One Summer Dream is a favourite of mine, and the drumming at the start of Mr Blue Sky is superb, along with the ending of Across the Border. The 18 minutes or so of Concerto for a Rainy Day is the most magnificent music I have ever heard, and Bev's drumming was a huge part of that ELO sound. Bev is to me, the best drummer of all the bands I've ever heard. Out of the Blue is the finest double album ever. That is just magnificent music. Bev drew me to ELO, and Jeff Lynne, and my life was made a whole lot better for knowing their music. They, together, were the bedrock of my life, and at 66 now, I'm loving them still. I listen to ELO almost every day. They lift me, like nothing else. Rest in peace, Richard. Best wishes and good health to you, Jeff. And Bev, thanks a million and best wishes and good health to you as well. Alastair, from Glasgow.

Thanks. Great interview and he seems like a genuinely great guy. I agree with him on depression, to not sweat the small things and realize there's always someone worse off.

For me personally, The Move were absolutely the tops. As an young American kid I was mesmerized by The Move. The Move, Small Faces and The Who. Nothing like them. I know Trevor and Roy put the Move down as just a Pop Top-40 group but I fail to see them realize the impact they had on the youth of the day and still today. We still love and appreciate their talent as a band and their music. Yes, musically they must go forward but never forget your roots. I'm 75 years old and for me The Move still are one of the greatest groups ever. I hope the former members realize this. Bev seems to know. Come on Roy and Trevor get humble!

The Move were my second favourite band after the Beatles, and their rise coincided with a particularly happy and carefree period of my life, so became in my mind indelibly associated with that. A bit surprised to hear that Roy is apparently dismissing them the way you say. He's never struck me as the type to take himself and his music too seriously (witness his antics with Wizzard). I enjoyed all the Move's work, but that first line-up before Ace's departure was really something special. A pity I was just too young to see them live. I did see the foursome (post-Ace) early in '69 but they had a bit of an off-night and tbh it was rather a let-down. However, this was shortly before Trev left, which may have had something to do with it. The final phase, with Jeff collaborating, also had the potential to do something really special. Unfortunate that it couldn't continue. My understanding is that Roy couldn't stand the thought of having to have any further dealings with Don Arden, for which he can hardly be blamed.

I think Jeff had fun with the title. It's Discovery- (with the dash at the end). Just take the last 4 letters and the dash and move them to the front... Very-disco

I don’t know the names of too many drummers. Of course, Ringo, Phil Collins, Don Henley… Now, those guys generally had bigger parts because they either sang lead most of the time or at least some of the time. Bev Bevan is the only drummer who I recognize instantly no matter who he played with.

One of the most underrated drummers in rock, imo. I always dug ELO before Discovery. After New World Record I lost interest. I still listen to the early stuff.
