Infamous Olympic figure skater Tonya Harding wiped away a tear on the red carpet last night at the premiere of ‘I, Tonya’, the eagerly awaited movie about her hardscrabble life. At Harding’s side was Australian actress Margot Robbie, who plays her in the movie. Harding won a standing ovation from the audience after the screening in Los Angeles. ‘I, Tonya’ is winning rave reviews and it portrays the figure skater not as a villain, but as a victim in her failed quest for Olympic gold. #InsideEdition

All Tonya ever wanted was to be loved and respected. That's all anyone ever wants. If her mother hadn't been such a demon and her partner hadn't been so physically abusive none of this would've happened. Tonya is a very talented professional skater. She pleaded guilty to conspiring - most of the people judging her so harshly wouldn't have the guts to do that. She has paid the price. She lost everything that meant the world to her. People need to understand her background, what she came from. Her mother only acknowledged her when she was successful and was horrible towards her when she failed. Tonya's mother is what I hope to never be to my daughter. We all want our kids to do well but not to this extent. :(

People, they're not applauding her crime. They're applauding her as the inspiration to an intricate character, played masterfully. It's not about her, it's about the movie (which is about her, but it's not like it's a documentary. It's just based on her life)

It's interesting how the timeline ran on this, the way Nancy's appearance whining on DWTS lined up with the release of the movie. Really odd that Nancy was caught somewhere crying again, right when Tonya is coming into the spotlight again. It probably served Tonya, as far as people being more accepting of the movie.

Tonya could've outskated Nancy, but instead, didn't play her cards right. She could've been one of the top Pros, building up her clientel, working at different rinks, and commanding a decent private lesson fee. Being banned from USFS (United States Figure Skating), the governing body for Olympic-bound skaters (and non Oly-bound) is no joke. Can't compete in any USFS sanctioned competitions, can't teach. Even touring skating shows didn't hire her, and that's where the money was, as well as being sponsored.

KENNEDY the Cosmetologist exactly! She’s honestly such a nice person. I heard a man talking about how he worked with the skaters at the olympics. He talked about how she was smiling and was so happy to be there and then he said that NANCY was making fun of the other skaters and being your typical rich brat. Kind of interesting seeing things from Tonya’s side for once, seeing as it was never told because the media painted her as a friggin monster.

Good girl Tonya, you enjoy all of it, it has been a long time coming It is about time some light was shone on the horrible people in your life at that terrible time, those excuses for men that actually did this awful thing. When anyone watches you being interview and that time they don't see someone who is worried about the competition, why would you be, you were the best skater in the world then , you knew it and they knew it. Hold your head up Tonya, you deserve to get at very least some of the love you missed at that time, it must have been terrible for you all these years. Don't worry about the people that still talk, there will always be people like that but remember you will have millions of people behind you now who will understand I promise People who will see your true story and give you the respect you truly deserve at last. As much as I loved Elaine Zayak, I disagree with her. Tonya Harding is the reason why many people actually care about figure skating. She was the most exciting skater to watch. I don't believe that she planned the attack, I believe her thug husband did that. UnboundGodz & Vince P No *she* didn't .. she wasn't even with her "husband" at the time .. she lied & said they were back together because the figure skating association told her if she wanted to go to the Olympics she needed to have her personal life in order. Her ex husband then saw how much money she could make if she won, so he came up & executed this plan behind her back so if she won he would then too be "rich". The only thing Tonya is guilty of, is finding out he did this behind her back & trying to first finalize her divorce before she told the cops it was him, because she wanted to get the hell away from him as fast as she could because he was always physically abusive to her; but when she saw what he would do to someone else then she panicked. There's plenty of documentaries that talk about this & the fact that Jeff told multiple people not to tell Tonya he did it. When he found out that someone had told her & she was going to tell the police he pistol whipped & beat her.

This film completely changed my view of Tonya. Her self esteem was destroyed at such a young age, and skating was the only thing that brought her joy and was something she was proud of. Unfortunately Tonya just got involved with the wrong people. It was never her idea to break Nancy's knee, she didn't know about it until it happened and couldn't do anything about it. Tonya has paid her dues. She deserves to be respected for the talent she has. If you don't like her, or have a negative attitude toward her, watch the movie.

Tonya Harding was not my favorite skater of all time (that distinction goes to Oksana Baiul) but I loved her nonetheless. And I'm not exaggerating when I say that Elaine Zayak was my LEAST favorite. Zayak should have been a hockey player (or a weightlifter.) Harding rose above hardship, abuse, and all manner of crappy circumstances to prove herself to be among the best athletes in the world. How sad that Zayak couldn't allow her one moment of well-deserved joy even at this late date. My favorite take on all this came from Owen Gleiberman in Variety: "She grew up being abused, then found an abusive husband, then found the ultimate abusers: all of us. She became our punching bag. But “I, Tonya” returns her to being what she always was: a great skater, and a human being with a dream of downscale flash that wouldn’t quit until it was pried away from her by the world. "It’s about time we had a world-class feminine lowlife to root for, and this, at long last, is that movie."
