Hi Tony, I work at Home Depot, here in the USA. In the plumbing section, there is foam padding that insulates pipes. It would wrap right around those bars in your greenhouse.(polytunnel?) It would last a long time and be so easy to install.

Blend up two garlic cloves and a chili in water strain it through a fine sieve into a spray bottle. Add a couple of drops of dish soap. It usually works for me. I don’t grow cauliflower though, so haven’t tried it on that. You just have to start at the first sign. Don’t put poison on your food.

I had plenty of aphids in the greenhouse a few years back, I purchased some ladybirds and they did the job, not the cheapest solution but worked a treat. If I see one now I tend to put it in as a precaution

Tony, I don’t know if it’s too late in your season to try this, but in my growing area, when I will put out my transplants of cauliflower or brocolis, I immediately put a very fine mesh white cloth tarped over them. Only rain can drip through, and no bugs. So far, knock wood, I haven’t had one white fly bother them , they try though, but no success. I’ve never had one worm in my brocoli , it really works and my beds are all organic too. Good luck this year with them. ❤️🌱

I used a couple of drop of washing liquid mixed with a teaspoon of olive oil in about a pint of water in a sprayer. Worked wonders the oil stops them for clinging/climbing back on again after you have sprayed them. 😁👍

Try surrounding with companion planting. Otherwise neem oil and insecticidal soap works ( this I use on outbreaks of pests in my conservatory ) both do the job for me without harming any wildlife. Good luck!

Hi tony whiteflies love over rich nitrogen brassicas that’s why you might get so many. Natural you can spray with weak soapy water under the leaves and on top of leaves. You will never not have any but you can reduce them

The problem with insecticide is that once you start using it, you can't ever go back. It will kill off all the predatory insects that feed on whitefly as well, so there's no longer any natural control and you'll have to keep spraying every few weeks. Populations of whitefly only get out of hand in warm, dusty conditions, without natural predators, or with a large presence of ants in your garden. So even though there's no real way to totally eliminate whitefly using organic methods, you can keep the amount of whitefly under control by rinsing your plants with water often, getting rid of colonised plants early and completely, placing ant traps and yellow sticky traps, and encouraging natural predators to come visit your allotment (for instance by planting some more flowers like alyssum, yarrow, or cosmos). You'll always have some whitefly, especially in hot summers, but at least this way the populations won't explode the way you've had to deal with.
@inelouw
@inelouw Жыл бұрын
Oh, and the nymphs overwinter on affected plants, so get rid of ALL those cauliflower plants, and any other plants that have had whitefly infestations in the past, as soon as possible. Nymphs are too small to see with the naked eye, but they'll become adult whiteflies as soon as the weather gets hot and infect every plant nearby. Burn them, don't compost them, if you want to be 100% sure.

I had some really bad aphids on my brassicas last summer. I thought they were disgusting and just wanted to clear the plants. I took the worst one out, it was like a solid mass. I did though keep the others and used a hose and watering can to clear them. We got a crop and they were absolutely fine.

Tony use some scaffold netting on the outside over the top, down the middle. Fold over if necessary. that will help stop the pigeons pecking at the plastic on the top.

Hello Tony. From a good plant husbandry point of view you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do… as an old school horti I prefer to use the synthetic pyrethroids especially for things under glass. Deltametherin even though it’s a neurotoxin is a good all rounder and cleans plants up well. Have you ever considered sterilising the son, of the tunnel? Balsamid, not sure if it’s available now is excellent cleans up any over wintering pests and diseases.

Honestly, the aphids are insane already. My citrus trees, inside the house where just like that, like snow drifts of aphids. I've never been so grimmed out. I done rubbing alcohol, fairy up liquid and covered. It's helped, but like yourself, it's sooooo bad I actually considered using something stronger
