Would be great if you could do a wrap video POV style. I’m just getting into boxing and it’s been kind of hard learning how to hold the wraps, what fingers to use to hold the loop, how you wrapped around the knuckles, etc… for whatever reason the wraps are just very awkward for some of us. Really need a “how to wrap for dummies.”

Just use your intuition
@functiondisruption
@functiondisruption 11 ай бұрын
The use of intuition is a flawed solution. People who are very new to this have not yet developed the intuition used to tell what is right or wrong effectively, leading to overlooked mistakes and bad habits formed. We need to be taught the correct and effective method so we know what a good wrap looks and feels like. Proceeding with something new on your own is how bad habits are made, preventable injuries that do not teach us are inflicted, and time is spent unnecessarily trying to form an experience base, when you could have used that time developing skills that take a lot of practice instead of skills that can be taught.

A video about all the necessary stretching before training independently would be great. I've injured myself a couple of times because I forgot to do 1 specific stretch that I didn't remember. It seemed insignificant at the time, but every stretch my coach made me do had a particular purpose.

@@Lil_vara Stretching? A lot of very painful injuries are because your muscles and tendons are not prepared for the movement they make. It's not a big problem when you are young, but with time a proper warm up is really crucial to safe and (relatively) painless workout :) Trust me, i'm over 40 and had a few strained muscles in my life;) One of the worst was in my neck :D You then begin to realise how much you turn your head around all day, hehehehe.

@@Lil_vara also, don’t do static stretching before a workout. Because during workouts muscles are contracting. But if you do a static stretch before a workout you are stretching and breaking muscles. So when you start working out your muscles won’t be ready to go from static to dynamic movements and thus lead to strains.

Is there any way that you show a closeup of just your hands while doing the wrapping slowly? Also would love to see all the way through the end, including when you wrap through your middle and pointer finger down around the back of the hand (around the pinky this time instead of between the thumb and pointer) to when you seal the wrap on your wrist... It looks like you also go around the knuckles one more time prior to final wrist wrap? Appreciate any help!

That’s exactly what I was doing, wrapping my hands too much around and leaving a very bulky cushion underneath my palm that kept me from clinching my fist and even hurt at times, it’s like you read our minds Tony, now I know, respect from 🇲🇽 my man.

key points 3:32 the coach goes the other way round under the palm, watch closely. 3:50 the coach omitted some final points, I think he went around the knuckles again as the wrap looks really neat under the palm.

Best method I've tried so far. It holds strong after a warm up, heavy bad training and a cool down session. The padding on the knuckles is on point, I hated my previous methods where the palm was unnecessarily stuffed

how many times do you wrap around fingers to create the padding? there was a cut and i couldn't follow. i think it's more than i tried, which was four times around.

Hi Tony. Liking the videos. Maybe this shows my inexperience in boxing but I thought the purpose of a hand wrap is not only protect the knuckles but also to form the hand into one solid "lump" and so protect smaller structures in the hand e.g. small bones and the rest of the hand from injury? Does this method of wrapping do this as the palm is not held firmly in place? Cheers.

Yep that's how we do it here in Philippines except that after making a loop about 4 times on your finger, that loop will be then folded lengthwise then place in front and just a bit below of the knuckles so that the impact is not directed on the joint itself. Try that and it will also give you an advantage in sparring as it is hard like the gauze you use in pro fights

Only recently subscribed to you’re channel it’s excellent, I have 2 questions . They may have been addressed previously not sure. Is there any videos for developing fast footwork? Good exercises or drills. Also any videos or recommendations on stretches or warm up exercises for hands and fingers? I have bad hands and find it hard to make a fist and results in sore hands after sparring and pads. Keep up the great videos.

Video Idea: It would be great to see a video specifically dedicated relaxing the shoulders and snapping punches vs. push punches. I've seen you mention it in other videos but I don't believe you have a video specifically on the subject. Are there situations where a push punch is better? Are they a complete no-no? Is snapping the most important thing since Sliced bread lol? I'm just trying to figure out how important is it to focus on the snap and the proper technique for the snap. As always, you're the best instructor on YT. Thanks.

Tony, this is literally what the Dr. ordered! I am ancient (60 in 1 month) and I use vibrating tools at work. My hands are always a bit swollen and they wake me up with numbness in the night. My wrists, particularly the right, being right-handed, is a weak point. I have incredible hand strength but no grip! I have a hard time wrapping anymore having lost a lot of fine motor skill and stopped, using gloves only. I always thought I was losing some protection, but fighting with the wraps when training time is limited. By the time I get situated I either have to cut some other important part of my routine or speed through everything. Your method can be used even with my fumbling fingers! Thanks again for the great inspiration.
