2019 Power Wagon owner. 37x12.5 Cooper STT PROs on AEV 17s. Stock suspension, minor trimming, rock sliders and belly armor. Where I live there is a 400ish foot steep and rutted out climb. I’ve been told it’s a 40-45 degree climb. I have seen Tacos, 4Runners, Rubys on 35s and most recently a Branco badlands struggle with it. I’ve probably done it 20+ times in my Power Wagon with open diffs. It is not a truck for mild to moderate off roading, it is a purpose built 4x4 designed to take on whatever a jeep can if you aren’t worried about pin stripes.

Seriously, I have pulled out many built(over GVM) midsize trucks and mildly built Jeeps from obstacles that my stock PW on 35's almost idled through. Unless you are worried about pinstriping the PW goes 99% of the places any midsize or jeep will go and will do it with ease due to the larger engine and heavy duty running gear. For reference my local trails are WV, VA and PA. ALL our trails are tight. The only time the size is a problem is when there is a group of 20 Jeeple who are too timid to drive a foot into the brush to pass me. Then its time to heckle and ask them directions to the mall or grocery store.

Just had my F250 Powerstroke out in Moab. I enjoy the challenge of wheeling a fullsize. Although the rear tire hanging out over the edge on Hurah Pass in some tight turns definitely got the heart pumping. And with the weight of the diesel, it sometimes helps with traction and with keeping the front end planted. I've had it in the dunes and on the beach and actually did real well, even when recovering a broken Jeep and helping a Humvee haul out a broken Ram in the dunes at Silver Lake. I do try to avoid mud as much as possible though haha.

I noticed that too. The tailpipe is no big deal, but those nerf steps would be a problem with the rocky desert in west AZ. Otherwise, a nice vehicle. The bigger vehicles are better at pulling a medium size off-road trailer. Carrying 4 people to a very comfortable campsite is not for a six cylinder. The 6.4 Ram can haul 10,000 lbs. Watch ROAMER videos where they pull Roamer1’s all through Moab in bad weather. In addition On-X legends trails for big vehicles, so it’s easy to choose the correct line in a bigger rig.

My first car was a 42 Ford GPW Jeep because I always wanted one, then my second car was a 41 1/2 ton closed cab weapons carrier with a pto winch because I loved those beasts too. The Jeep could go anywhere, the Power Wagon was less nimble but could drive over or through anything, and the winch could take care of it when it got sunk as long as there was something big to winch to. Once I buried it down to the axles in the back yard so I figured no big deal, it's running, plenty of trees around I have a Braden pto winch... I grabbed a smallish pine tree very close by and started pulling, truck started to move and suddenly the whole tree, rootball and all popped up out of the ground and almost fell on the truck. I found a BIG tree farther away and yanked the truck out, lesson learned. Wish I had both rigs now.

A hole like that sucks in anything with less than 40” TSLs. Lived in NV and CA for years, people used to get stuck like that in the dry lake beds a week after a storm all the time. Looks dry, you break through and you’re in gumbo. Didn’t matter what the vehicle was unless it had 40+ serious mud tires. And then you needed serious grunt to spin them or they turn into donuts.

Honestly overlanding vehicles in general are not mudding vehicles. It doesn't matter the size. Its the experienced and common sensed that can navigate these obstacles or just know ahead of time that their rig isn't capable for that. You should do a video on the different types of overlanders haha. For most overlanders its not about how much they can test their rig and break stuff.

@wirebrush3 жыл бұрын
@@Dexter_Solid Exactly. But when you consider that the Power Wagon has a fraction of the payload capacity of those typical trucks, the high pressure dosen't make sense. Those on road pressures are determined by gross vehicle weight which a Power Wagon will never reach that of a standard 250O safely without modifications. You also have to consider the Power has larger than typical sized tires which require less pressure to support the same weight. RAM just got lazy and didn't want to change the software to reflect the lower payload and larger tires.

For tires for overlanding it’s just two brands general grabber x3 or BF MT only two that I would put my name behind. I get everyone has their preferences but it does come down to the driver but yeah that mud didn’t look like any rig would get too far. I’ve found out over my rock crawler 2018 rubicon build I struggle in mud over my power wagon. I find weight helps in mud but not sand now when it comes to getting stuck no matter what recovering a light vehicle over a big rig is always easier. Cool video though glad to see other PW owners pushing their trucks👍🏽

There are no half tons that come as capable as a power wagon stock as far as I know. Which half ton comes with front & rear lockers, electronically disconnectable sway bars and a built in 12k winch?
