back in 1972, I had my dream car, got it after I got home from deployment in 1971. That summer I would just cruise my wheels off top down, and this song was getting airtime a lot. When I heard it coming on, up went the volume, a great top-down classic

@@truthseeker1328 What do you think the huge Afro that this singer rocked in the 1970's represented? The afro represented black liberation. Both he and his brother were what we today know as pro-black. He became a preacher and the other brother joined the Black Hebrew Israelites.
@truthseeker13284 жыл бұрын
@@simondilling5353 I disagree because you claim the afro represents 'black liberation' but don't you find it just a tad disturbing there were also many Hispanics music artists sporting afros back in the 70's too? And we know the peaceful relationship that exists between Blacks and Hispanics don't we? Countless blacks, both in the entertainment industry and just average young black Americans of the time also had 'fros', such as little Mikey Jackson. If your position is even remotely accurate, why then didn't all the members of the Black Panthers, who obviously held to this ideology sport an afro as a symbol of unity?? Only Carter became radicalized many years later by joining the BHI cult, the others went on to live normal lives with Edward becoming a follower of Christ by giving his life to the One True God. You can read all the imaginary racism you want between the lines but the fact remains the afro was nothing more than a popular hairstyle during that time. A time of great music by artists who didn't need to use lyrics advocating rape, murder and self-denigration.
@simondilling53534 жыл бұрын
@@truthseeker1328 It's called a copy. I also went to college with a Caucasian man with an Afro. Obviously it did not represent black liberation to him because it didn't originate with him. Earth Wind & Fire has also referred to their hairstyles, the afro, and clothes as symbols of black liberation.
