Lamont, your French is way better than the average English speaker learning it. I think If you could relax a bit with this idea of having the "level you want" in Swedish and spend even 15 minutes from time to time (as Stefano has advised in some interviews) in French you'd be surprised at how far you can get and how fast you can progress. I doubt it'll interference with your Sweedish, Stefano's success in reaching a high level in so many languages proofs it.

You had a good point...you can live in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway without speaking the local language... however if you're going to live longer or permanently move to these countries, then learn the local language 😉 I know plenty of foreigners who had live in Finland for decades and don't speak a word of Finnish...and the difference between me and them (15 years in Finland and I speak fluently) is that I'm 100% more " deeply connected" into Finnish colture. Language is culture 😉

Very refreshing! A down-to-earth Aussie going deep into one and only one thing, his study of Swedish. And framing language learning in the larger more profound context of what sort of things should we be doing and why. This is the antithesis of the usual 'how many languages can one learn' accumulation-oriented polyglot interview!

About jokes in other languages...for those studying Finnish, if you want to test your level of understanding...try to read FINGERPORI sarjakuvat...if you can understand the jokes...then your Finnish is already really good!

Grazie per avermi raccomandato un comico fantastico - Ismo. La comprensione di umorismo nella lingua, che impariamo significa, per me, che sapiamo davvero la lingua - è un livello avanzato. Fare gli errori (o meglio - non fare errori) non è un segno, che parliamo bene la lingua, perché gli errori sono parte integrale nel’apprendimento della lingua. La conoscenza della cultura, la gioa dalla lingua è la cosa più importante.

I started learning Finnish lately, but I wonder what have you done specifically for getting your Finnish so fluent?(I’m actually struggling that with my English, my Finnish is not that level yet😅) I think that answer will help a lot of the other language learners too! Hey there, thank you for your encouraging words and support! I discussed my Finnish journey in one of my early videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/in2WfaaOi7CVjbc but apart from the very first steps, it's been exposure (listening and reading) and a lot of actual usage with natives, for months and years. There's no real trick, it's all about enjoying what you do so that you do it as much as you can :D I think you could get a couple of interesting take-aways from my interview on Lamont's channel as well, check it out if you're interested (link in the description) :)

Out of all of the languages you have been learning and studying, which one do you think is the most difficult of them? Perhaps mandarin, japanese or finnish?

I usually answer Japanese because of its incredible distance from Indo-European languages in terms of way of thinking and culture that reflect on the way the language is used, on top of all the rest.
