These are good talking points for anyone starting out in RVing. My soap box speech is to create a list of expectations in what you're looking for and be realistic. Then rate them as you go to different dealers. Guarantee you will find the one that works for you. And yea, avoid like the plage arriving after dark. It's hard on a marriage.

Good info! We definitely can identify with some of what you talked about. Our first travel trailer was what we thought of as "the perfect size". It is only my husband and I and our mini golden doodle and toy poodle. For 3 camping seasons we put up with having to move their crates every time we wanted to sit on the loveseat....but that meant moving the crates to get to the bathroom. This year we made the decision to get a bigger camper. Best decision ever despite the fact we were upside down on our 1st camper. But.....the 1st time out with the new camper, my husband felt that we needed a more powerful truck to safely tow the new camper. So....he bought a new truck. Definitely a good decision in getting the right tow vehicle. We feel much safer.

Better to find a rental management company so you can keep your home - maybe make a little money on it and still have someplace to move back to as you get to the age where mobility becomes an issue for your body

I think the worst one of these is the getting to the camp ground after dark. It’s no fun trying to get set up. I’m also no a fan of driving in the dark.

i thing i would add to the height issue i that for many bridges that height marker could actually be wrong. resurfacing adds extra road height that may not be reflected on those markers. so it would be wise to check the height of bridges and over passes if your vehicle height is within about a foot of the bridge. and don't forget to take in the added height of antenna or roof accessories.

So just exactly how can you manage that. I suppose if there was absolutely no traffic you could get out and do that. Except some of those bridge heights are between 11-13 feet like if they have a train track on top. My husband was 6’ tall. Bit of a height difference. I’m really not being a smart aleck. I truly want to know how you could go about measuring these underpass if you’re unsure about the height. And whatever you do don’t forget about those monstrous air conditioner. As long as A/C for RV’s have been around you’d think they could come up with something with a little bit lower profile.

@@user-vm5ud4xw6n many truck drivers that haul large/tall loads, such as tow trucks and specialty haulers, have a height stick. usually, fibreglass that is collapsible with height markings. we have several bridges/overpasses near me, where the posted height limit is close to a half foot less on the outer lanes, but the centre lane is only a few inches different. at this stage it is dependent upon each county to ensure bridges are correctly marked but there is no guarantee that this will be the case. best option is to get your height readings, usually found within the detailed vehicle dimension pages and add a foot or so to it to be sure, and slow right down if things look iffy.

Best thing to buy is truckers atlas. This tells all low bridges and roads designated for a semi. If the road is rated for a semi our 40 ft will be ok

I just bought an Alliance 382RK it’s a 2023 model and when I went to buy my tag the state has it valued 32,000 more than I paid for it. Owned a class A 42’ diesel pusher and sold it in 2021 didn’t loose but about 8,000 when I sold it had it 6 years. My point is it’s not all doom and gloom. Very good information for all, biggest thing is people need to be careful not to buy more than they can afford and get whatever they are looking at get it inspected!

Our daughter’s trailer is seasonal, they don’t full time. Their trailer has a bunk room with a half bath which is great for the kids.

We just went full time. It is just me and the wife. We've done it before learning from our mistakes our rig is class A its 35' long two slides. We chose gas cause our plan wasn't a lot of travel. It was cheaper to have an RV payment and lot rent than renting a small apartment with all utilities. On averega depening on RV park We save on average 900 Dollars a month. Our RV payment is under $200 a month. We chose a very old model in good condition. We bought as is but is was dealer certified that everything worked. Only thing i didnt like on the unit was the kitchen faucet dripped.

The daily in’s and outs of life in an RV can only be appreciated when you’re in it. Trying to explain to someone will never work because for some reason they think that none of that stuff will happen to them. For some reason they thinks any or all of the problems that come up are going to magically disappear for them. Kind of like when teens think they’re invincible.
