What's going on? High profile vegans, dietitians and longtime experts who teach plant-based diets - are being diagnosed with cancers. Can we learn anything from this? We look at four recent cases and try to consider why this is happening. We want to hear your thoughts and perspectives on this phenomenon. Please share them below.

I’ve posted a list of the environmental working group’s clean 15 and dirty dozen fruits and vegetables on my refrigerator and have memorized them which helps me to purchase things that are low in pesticides. I think that those who consume dairy products are also getting an awful lot of antibiotics, estrogen, and pesticides through the dairy products also. I stay away from dairy myself and think it’s a good idea to do so.

I've been thinking about this further and wanted to add something. Even if we ate a plant-perfect diet (100% WFPB, organic, etc), exercised the optimal amount, lived a stress free life, slept perfect, had incredible community/relationships, used zero pharmaceutical products, used zero cosmetic products, breathed only pure air, drank only clean/uncontaminated water, had grandparents that also lived a perfect lifestyle, had no trauma, etc... some people would still get cancer. Albeit, this number will still be FAR less than average. Why? Because the human body is not a perfect machine - it still makes errors in cell replication, growth and development, etc. But, the body is still an INCREDIBLE machine and often it can heal from major/complex illness, but it is not a perfect organism. I wish it were! Having said that, I will happily continue to eat a WFPB diet free from processed food, exercise, meditate, and so forth to stack the odds in my favor. Should cancer come my way, then so be it...At least I will die knowing that I took control of what I could and made peace with the rest.

I remember when they showed parents with an autistic child on 60 Minutes about 40 yrs ago and blamed the mother for being a "cold" parent. they ought to first of all look at the injections a child gets from the time he is born. Injections into a perfectly fresh, God given immune system and then they blame either genetics or the mother for the dire consequences.

What is really pathetic is saying that mothers of children with cancer are responsible for their child’s disease based on what they ate as children or early life. Placing blame like that is sick - I’ve heard Fuhrman and McDougal both do it. There are so many factors, besides diet, that influence cancer risk. And telling people they are “doing the vegan diet wrong” when they get a disease. Ugh. No diet eliminates cancer risk, and nutritional deficiencies can also lead to cancer. Vegan sensationalism is so strong in the media. Lead a holistic lifestyle that focuses on healthy habits - exercise, sleep, whole food diet, hydration, reducing chemical/environmental exposure and stress - eliminate processed junk and sugar. Hope for the best, but don’t fall for the pitch that WFPB/veganism is a cure all.

Anything but the diet right.... Despite the growing trend of cancer development in people on plant based diets over 7-10+ years. My sister went vegetarian at age 11 and now has non Hodgkins lymphoma since age 21. Been 5 years of chemo now. I have brought up the topic of nutrient deficiencies, the link between sugar and cancer, and have even hinted at the possibility that a meatless diet did cause their cancer and meat could possibly be basically medicinal. To no avail, they are still vegetarian. (They are actually non-binary now so I should say they/them).

I watched the entire video and this is really taken out of context! Cherrie made the point that she knows her cancer likely started at least 15-20 years ago--long before she started eating healthily. She specifically asked this question to try to explain to her viewers how long it takes cancer to develop before being detected and that a healthy diet for a recent few years may have slowed down a cancer that started decades earlier. What is the point of this video? It seems unnecessarily decisive. Also, he did not make her cry. She was crying for her own reasons. Please watch the entire video.

Stop blaming the diet when you really have no clue if that's the reason your sister got it. Who is to say she didn't die thanks to being on a vegetarian diet? I ate a very strict RAW Organic vegan diet for 15+ years. I felt great and had great energy. In the past 4 years, I've switched to a not as strict, cooked all vegan food, and included some processed products like vegan 'butter' and such. I have gained weight and don't feel nearly as energetic as when on an all raw limited diet. I think the introduction of these 'fake foods' that many vegans now eat (fake meats and dairy) may have an adverse effect. In my case, I have to factor in advancing age, so that may be partially affect my energy levels. (I am now 73). I believe the use of pesticides has increased, so am not sure if Organic is really what it used to be.

My opinion would be that eating whole plant foods is key. Whether raw or not, eating whole plant foods is clearly beneficial, while eating processed (not whole) foods like "vegan" butters, meats, sugars, oils, etc. is not. @@dj-fe4ck Be careful, I read that organic rice grown in Texas has high levels of arsenic, rice in itself draws more arsenic than usual for other plants and turns out they started planting rice in cotton fields that at one time used arsenic treatment, so now those fields have too much arsenic but they are planting rice in it and selling it as organic. Because organic branding does not check for arsenic. I read that California rice is best for low arsenic levels, and washing it well helps too. So, don't take my word for it but research it.

Linda McCartney also died of cancer and she was vegan or correctly vegetarian..my husband has been a strick vegan for many years, eating a healthy plant based diet..he now has neurological issues. (alzheimer's, like his mother had)..later we found out that my husband also has two APOE4 genes. he was trying hard to maintain his health (he was very fit, working out and eating right). FYI we both have gone to Dr McDougals Costa Rica vacation (loved it), and also saw Dr Furhman in person, on many of his speeches. Which shows that we were very much into learning and maintaining this lifestyle. i am not saying it's a vegan issue, but, nothing is perfect..and we just don't know..wish we did. only can do the best we can. Sometimes i think it's better to just enjoy life as best as we can cuz we are all going to go. for myself, eating a plant based diet makes me feel better, but now that am older, sometimes eat what i enjoy, and am not so strick...I do not like eggs nor cheese but will eat some cake when at a party. I had a blood test a while back and it found that m body was high in pesticides..is it possible that vegans or plant based diets have more pesticides even if the plants are washed? possibly it's the soil? who knows. Wouldn't it be ideal if more studies were made on health issues without drugs..instead of putting money towards going to Mars, why not look into maintaining health in a natural way rather than issuing drugs. Just my two cents lol

I don't think a whole lot of this. I firmly believe that eating the best possible diet there is for most of your life, still only reduces the chances of getting cancer. There are many other reasons for cancer and I think a big one is stress! Who hasn't been stressed these past few years?! From my many nutrition courses, seminars and thousands of hours studying outside of my courses, it seems that only hormonal and digestive cancers are reduced significantly--and NOT to zero regardless of what Dr. F says. The others are reduced, but not nearly as much. I have never believed that eating a 100% low fat (no more than 15% calories from fat), whole foods, plant-based, did more than reduce the chances of most cancer about 50%, maybe as much as 80% for hormonal and digestive cancers. This is not even close to 100%. Cancer is going to happen. We can reduce the risks considerably but not eliminate them. Now vascular disease? If eating right for long enough, I believe you can nearly (but not 100%) eliminate the chances of vascular disease. Eating this way dramatically reduces risk of everything, absolutely impacts how many meds are needed as we age, how many chronic diseases we develop as we age, how many surgeries we might need as we age, and leads to a longer lifespan that is considerably improved in regards to being active and productive.

@@robjohn6943 EVERY SINGLE ONE of the healthiest and longest-living populations on earth--with the least amount of cancer--eat a diet very high in complex carbs--about 70-80% calories from carbs. This is a fact. And the more animal foods eaten (the more fat and cholesterol eaten), the more meds needed, the more chronic diseases that develop, the more surgeries needed, the more cancer and the shorter the lifespan. Our bodies are literally carb-eating machines. Cells are set up to eat carbs which is exactly why it is very hard to get into ketosis and even harder to stay there. And why the body stinks when in ketosis--it is NOT a natural state! Our brain can only eat carbs! You don't find any low carb populations anywhere on earth which are in the healthiest and longest-living group. The few that eat that way due to necessity are known to be less healthy, be loaded with vascular disease, and die at least 10 years earlier than the average--some (such as the Inuits) about 20 years earlier than average. If you want to be optimally healthy, live the healthiest and longest lifespan possible, eating a diet very high in complex carbs is the way.
@lauralang3089
@lauralang3089 Жыл бұрын
@@robjohn6943 There are people who reverse cancer by doing nothing! And give it time--it WILL come back--with a vengance. There are always exceptions but never, ever take an exception as the rule. It is well known that the more animal protein eaten, the more cancer will develop. In fact you can take a petri dish of cancer cells and put the blood of meat eaters in it and close it up. Days later you will find the cancer exploding in growth. However doing the same with blood from vegans, the cancer cells die. You can literally turn cancer growth on and off by adjusting the amount of animal protein eaten--the more animal protein eaten, the faster the cancer grows. Reverse this and the cancer starts dying. There are multiple ways animal protein increases the chances of cancer. One is that it increases our production of IGF-1 hormones. This in turn causes cancer growth. Another is heme iron. In fact, nearly all aspects of animal foods contribute to cancer growth. In my many years of courses, seminars and studies, I have not yet found a single study showing that a carnivore diet reverses cancer and keeps one cancer free--not a long-term, large study, peer-reviewed one with a control group. All I have ever seen were short-term reductionist studies that showed some tumor shrinkage. However no human lives in a reductionist world and no study has been long-term, many decades long. It is just plain not true. Our body fights tooth and nail to be healthy. It will do all it can to remain healthy. Disease happens when the body has tried everything and failed. Carnivore diet? Stupid as can be. Look at all true carnivores. They swallow their food in huge pieces, they don't chew except to get a piece off. Their digestive system is very short, processing meat quickly to minimize e-coli and other bacteria from poisoning their systems. They do not have digestive enzymes in their saliva. They don't suffer from vascular disease. There is nothing about a human that suggests we are carnivores. Just plain a fad diet and a fallacy that will slowly disappear over time as people either die from it or quit eating that way.

Great video! And thanks for mentioning the product as these types of product are not mentioned enough when discussing contributors to health issues and they need to be. I think that our environment and the products we use to clean, to put on our skin and the pharmaceuticals products that enter our bodies are causing are a huge contributor to disease on top of diet. We even need to consider things like the location we live in, the level of pollution in the environment and the amount of sunshine, fresh air, exercise and stress we have in our lives.

One other thing, Jeff, my uncle married into an extremely alcoholic Polish family. He and his wife drank their beer daily and tripled their doses on the weekends. My aunt gave birth to one child with congenital heart problems and two daughters: one who never could become pregnant and the other had multiple miscarriages and a child born with cancer. To me this is a family case in point of how diet and alcohol can change DNA for future generations born to a foolish family.

it's so true - just because it's 'vegan' doesn't make it healthy. Yes we know tobacco, alcohol, and plenty of other plants can cause cancer - and some of these drugs are WFPB. It's so sad to see some people use veganism as a guise for drug-induced moral licensing! When are people going to wake up to the fact that plants create toxins so that we don't eat them that do cause cancer? Not all plants are safe. There should be a warning label with these doctors saying 'non-toxic' but since everything's toxic - what can you do?

Cancer is complicated, so is the world we live in. We deal with thousands of things in our lives that contain many chemicals we now little about and know basically nothing about synergistic effects, and most we cannot avoid. I’m 73, retired medical research biochemist, was a lacto-vegetarian for decades then went WFPExclusive in 2012. 2014 diagnosed with uterine cancer, 2021 diagnosed with breast cancer, yes I do have a cancer gene. I also have arrhythmias. Never been overweight, was a marathon runner, so…It’s life; I think I have recovered so well because of my lifestyle.

I'm sorry Dr, with all due respect I'm not buying that all of a sudden vegan diets are leading to cancer. As a funeral director, across the board cancers have been on the rise since 2021. We started seeing aggressive cancers where ppl were dying within in months of diagnosis which was unheard of previously. In Ontario Canada e have had 93 drs dying suddenly and developing new aggressive cancers within the last year. What's going on, I believe it's the same things that's going on with these vegans. We need to address the big elephant that is in the room.

What struck me as strange was her question of "if we're going to get cancer anyway, (which we really can't predict ) why follow this diet?" Lots of reasons! All the other health conditions it prevents, all the animal suffering it prevents, all the environmental reasons. It's not like this diet is a sacrifice for heck sake! It's most accurate to look at disease as a multi-dimensional, multi-factor process - the food consumed plays some part but it is also how we process whatever we consume, so different diets affect different people differently... spiritual, psychological, and energetic factors interact with diet and environmental factors to foster "cancer." Some people have commented about a recent injection that as a side effect blocks a key cancer suppression mechanism in the body, though synchronistically those affected would also have some other reasons why cancer is manifesting for them.

As a vegan nutritionist, it was an extremely interesting topic for me, but I must say that food is not the only thing that could cause cancer, other factors should be seen, such as what they apply to the skin such as deodorants, creams, etc., as it says in the video take supplements (many times without a dietician or doctor indicating) and not see if there is any substance that in the long run produces intoxication. WE have to see all the factors and do a study about it. However, even so, the cancer rate in vegans seems to be lower than in omnivores. Dr. Furhman very bad what he did, made her cry after all she has been through. :(

We use too many chemical containing products on our skin, we inhale particles from petroleum and diesel and smoke from cigarettes etc. We are exposed to more electrical equipment. Our days are extended by artificial light and we are not active enough and we stress too much. Also we take a pill for every ill and so many people think drugs do them good when the opposite is true. Every medication is poison and although we may need a drug at some point we also need to flood the body with nutrients to counteract the harmful effect of these meds on our bodies. We are too insular. Years ago everyone worked together to bring in a harvest, to plant and to sow. It was hard physical work and long days but also sociable as everyone worked and ate together. Too much alcohol is consumed as well as sugar.

I am a biologist and have studied this. Not the cancer itself, but the effects of issues in the environment. Glyphosate and other chemicals in the plants eaten can be a suspect. People are eating a lot more plants that could be treated with various chemicals, which could definitely create an uptick in cancers. Plus, the GMOs, themselves, have altered amino acids, and one can never be sure what the altered amino acids could mean in the human life. Here’s an example… It has been witnessed that glyphosate has inserted itself as an analog of glycine. There’s no way to know how this can impact humans. It needs to be studied extensively.

Good video! I think that most cancers are caused by malnutrition, which leads to oxidative stress and inflammation. If you look at the blood work of cancer patients, many are iron deficient, vitamin b2 deficient, niacin deficient, selenium deficient. When you are on a vegan diet, many of vegans are trace mineral deficient, omega 3 deficient, vitamin d deficient, vitamin b12 deficient because the fibers bind up the trace minerals and the diet does not have enough of some vitamins. I think that it's OK to be partially vegan because it's a diet that excludes saturated fats and cholesterol, but vegans have to take daily multivitamin and multimineral tablets daily . Also, vegans should take enzymes that will break down the fiber in their plant foods such as cellulose, hemicellase, phytase, protease, lipase, amylase. These enzymes will make the nutrients in plant foods more available. Eat plants, beans, veggies, but also eat a BBQ rib and KFC chicken occasionally!! If you got cancer within 2 1/2 years ago, I believe that it was caused by the covid vaccine.

Vegan is a philosophy not a diet. Being Vegan is for the Animals. I think this video should be titled "too many plant based eaters getting cancer " Linda McCartney became vegetarian when she was an adult,she was not vegan. I would like to know how many Whole food ALL plant diet eaters from birth are dying from cancer. What percentage of plant based eaters diet are organic or veganic. This is a very complicated subject with many factors at play, starting with, what did your mother eat and drink before you were born for example, where are you living, do you exercise, do you have a lot of stress,are you happy, are you a pessimist or an optimist,genes also factor in. Be Vegan for the Animals ,Eat a Whole food ALL plant diet for your health.

People are mortal. I think it's sufficient to say that living a healthy lifestyle can reduce one's chances of getting cancer, heart disease and other maladies. But reduction is not elimination, and we shouldn't speculate too much when someone who's really trying gets cancer. Fuhrman makes some fantastic claims about this diet.

Dr. Fuhrman should be ashamed of himself for his reply; he teaches that his diet is THE preventive diet. He never mentions that a person's body may be damaged beyond the help of the diet! He is only side-stepping because he knows that he can't guarantee that any diet is the perfect diet! To admit that, would be to bankrupt himself. Thank you for this video. Has anyone looked at whether the vegan cancer cases were taking either contraceptives and/or hormone replacement therapy? Are they drinkers (wine, beer, etc). How many were eating "vegan cheese" or "vegan processed sausages"? Also, there is also the question as to whether they would have been diagnosed even sooner with a more aggressive form of the same cancer, had they not been vegan?

Dr John McDougall points out that cancers start from a single cell, and the doubling time can be in the range of 70 to 150 days or so. Thus an “early” cancer diagnosis could be of a cancer that commenced 30 years ago. A healthy WFPB diet is likely to deal with this in the early stages. But what if you have only been WFPB for 5 or 10 years? Also, environmental carcinogens are everywhere. To be scientific we need long term studies that show if a WFPB diet reduces the incidence of cancer or not. To pick out isolated cases is silly.

Only Jesus has the final say regarding what happens with our health. He alone knows when our last day on earth will be. We cannot idolize a diet or anything for that matter. Increasing the intake of vegetables and decreasing the intake of processed foods can certainly lower the risk of getting certan diseases. However, Jesus alone is the Great Physician. Thank you for this video. I was vegetarian, then vegan, then WFPB , but then found out I was born with structural abnormalities in four organs. My diet could not have ever prevented that. I'll give my testimony: I'm almost 70 years old. I was a naturalist for most of my life, alternating between periods of greater food restriction, fasting and a predominantly vegetarian diet. I don't eat industrialized products and I stopped eating mammalian meat when I was around 20 years old. When I was 50 I neglected my diet and got prostate cancer at 61 (my PSA was almost 70). I don't know if I can attribute this cancer to a somewhat careless diet that I had between the ages of 50 and 60. When I found out I had cancer I adopted a radically vegetarian diet and a few months later when I had the surgery to remove the prostate the doctors were surprised with the result and I didn't need to do chemo or radio. Today it has been five years since the surgery and I maintain a well-prepared diet but I am not a vegetarian, I use eggs and occasionally chicken in my diet. I believe that we should not be radical when it comes to food. We must radically avoid processed foods, of course. But I believe that the human body is very flexible to correct eventual problems in the diet since 70% to 80% of ours is very good. I would also like to say that in the world we live in today, it is practically impossible to avoid that factors not related to food can cause great damage to our health. We are destroying the planet and this affects our health because we are products of the planet. .

It is only hard if you aren't willing to DETOX first. Before you do anything, you have to DETOX the inflammation currently residing in your body. Simply adding a more nutritious diet isn't going to be a panacea for someone who has been abusing their body for decades. Before you do anything you have to get rid of the stench you have been carrying around for decades which is what a DETOX will do. Dr. F's diet was not a detox diet.

Nr.1 - Health is holostic. Nr.2 - Many vegans are not really healthy (although they may call themselves so) because they use way too many processed foods and not organic food. Nr.3 - Many times the base of our illness is psychological. Food didn't heal me. I had to dig deep in my subconscious mind and those shifts in my consciousness helped me hear along with a superfood that was perfect for me. - However, it also matters what water we drink, what air we breathe, what we put on our skin, what cleaners we use, what people we hang out with, our attitude, genetics and destiny. One day we'll all die. Food matters but is one piece of the puzzle, only. To put all pressure on food only is unfair and misleading. Thank you for your video.

Healthy lifestyle choices reduce risks, but do not eliminate risks. It’s about mitigating risks, not eliminating risks. Fuhrman always overstates the benefits, and then backtracks when it does not work all of the time. There are no health guarantees, only likely health improvements. So, nothing unusual is going on with the handful of examples that you gave. Of all people, you already know this because you provide evidence-based information, not anecdotes.
