Joe, your response to the first question was enlightened. You are right. You are an artist or you are not and age has nothing to do with it. Make art for the sake of art, and keep improving. That is the most rewarding aspect. Commercial music would be better if that were the primary inspiration. I am writing and producing the best music I have ever made at age 62. I started playing guitar at age 14. Beethoven was 54 when he wrote his 9th Symphony, not to mention deaf. Don't anyone tell you what you can or cannot do. Follow your inspiration!

Ngl, as a young sound engineer I can confidently say, the older you are the easier it'll be for you establish a sizeable studio, and the opportunities you've had over your lifetime to accumulate gear for cheap. You're also likely the owner of a house with possibly space and resources to build a studio in your yard. The great majority of people I've met who run a studio are former musicians or live engineers past 50. It's true that hearing loss can happen with age, but from what all those older engineers have told (and shown) me : it really doesn't matter as long as you know your ears and know what sounds good through those.

When I was younger this is all I wanted to do. After a severe injury and illness in my mid 40’s I fell back into the music biz via my new spouse. I had to do something to stay off the dole as I couldn’t get a job as a greeter in Walmart with my issues. Done well enough over the last decade with it. Funny thing is it’s not what drives me anymore. Which probably makes me better at it since my ego doesn’t get in a tizzy too often now. This is not a question, but some information. Jon Anderson, once singer with Yes is 78, he still has a good following and is still making new music, his most recent creation of music is called Zanran, which is almost completed. However it can’t be released on vinyl or CD, because…….NO RECORD COMPANY WILL SIGN HIM, stating he is TOO OLD. He has had to use Patreon, to release his music.
@InTheMixJoeCarrell11 ай бұрын
Good for him! Glad he’s still making it happen
@Producelikeapro11 ай бұрын
Hi Atom-56, that's a very interesting statement! I do know several specialist labels that work with legacy artists that would love to put out a Jon Anderson album! The question is always how much it would sell, what the percentage the artist gets and how much advance they want! It might be much better for an Artist to own the album 100% and although sales might be less the profitability would be much higher! Your Staten seems to imply you have inside information, if you want to connect me to Jon's manager I can connect him to a couple off legacy based labels that would be perfect for him, however, my gut is they would have approached them (I would really hope so at least!) and made the choice to own the album 100% themselves. Many thanks
@Atom-5611 ай бұрын
@@Producelikeapro No, it’s not inside information, Jon had said, on his KZbin channel, Jon Anderson Official. He’s also well known for not liking Managers and the business side of making music, the last I heard, his wife , Jane Luttenburger Anderson, was his manager. His last album 1000 Hands, was released in 2019, on the Opio Media label, I don’t know if that’s any help. It would be good to know of the outcome, should you manage to contact him, should it be a financial issue or whatever.
@Producelikeapro11 ай бұрын
Having worked with many legendary/legacy artists the bottom line is they can give away massive percentages to a label and still have to do most of the marketing themselves (also bear in mind a classic artist has a fanbase they interact with easier than a third party company) OR they can own everything 100% themselves!@@Atom-56
