My mom was 90 when she moved to villages. She wanted to have fun with the time she has left on this planet. She now swims 3x a week, joined bad bowlers league, volunteers at library, has a small garden, walks and enjoys her many new friends. So your never to old…

Love your show, just thought I'd add my 2 cents. When I was young I worked long and hard to be able to have a comfortable retirement.. Well let me tell you I worked too long, right after I comfortably retired my health went in the bucket and now I'm housebound! Thankfully er took very nice vacations along the way. My advise, if you are thinking about doing anything do it sooner rather than later. Time and tide wait for no man. The best to you both and Gizmo too.

Hi J & L, I looked into moving to the apartments behind Brownwood Square, but geeze Louise! They are about $3,000/month. My retirement plan got sidelined. My husband died at age 54. I was 51. We both worked for the school system. My widow’s benefit was $250.00 from social security; period! When you are young like we were, there isn’t a retirement plan for the average person. I kept working until age 67. We were only married just over a year and didn’t have time to plan our retirement. I’m 70 now, in pretty good health, but I’m one of those people who is living with my daughter. I really wish The Village’s had some affordable rentals. I don’t want to own anymore; too much house maintenance to worry about. At least I’m a happy person with lots of family. Love your show! ~Lynn

We met many homeowners in The Villages who transitioned to living at The Lofts at Brownwood once a spouse died. Many in their late 70s, 80s, and 90s! No more responsibilities of homeownership. Plenty of companionship and good times.

Hi guys! I laughed out loud when you made that crack about the commenter who said they were from North Jersey! Being from the Jersey Shore myself, we here in New Jersey use these as qualifiers. Mostly the Parkway. I’m exit 105!

Heyyyy🖐 So enjoy all your info and videos. We are coming for our 4 day stay visit in 6 weeks!!! QUESTION? Are you allowed in the Villages to paint your front doors and shutters a different color? QUESTION? Can you professionally have glass added to your front doors? ( we call them dream doors) LAST QUESTION? We built in Nocatee in NE Florida. Huge golf cart little city in Ponte Vedra, Florida. They have stop signs, red lights, etc...just for carts to cross all major road areas. Maybe The Villages should consider this too. We are ready to get our home on market....join the villages🙏🏡💕🌴

Another great MBM Jerry Linda and Gizmo... We also bought our home here sight unseen. A co-worker that had moved here and that we had visited a couple of times found our home, took photos, and put a down payment to hold it for us. That was almost 8 years ago and there were 3 other people there wanting it. It's a CYV because my wife said we had to have a fenced yard for our doggies to go out into. There are some really beautiful painted driveways in TV. After moving here and joining ToTV, I found out in the deed restrictions if the hair on your legs is over 3/4" long, it has to be corn rowed. Loved the Gizmo joke, he got me on that one. Sneaky little booger. Also glad one of your sons got to be with you on Thanksgiving. Thanks to all for their service.

I live in a 55 “or better” community in So California. We are so popular and have so many activities our homes are selling before they are announced! Two homes on my street were bought before the sign went up. These are called pocket listings here in Ca. Everything is selling at some interesting prices. Best of luck to you.
@hildacollier26383 жыл бұрын
I just bought a little townhome in Alabama and it's the same way here.. its not a 55+ community but it is a very convenient location and the community looks like a European village. These little townhomes sell in 2 hours. You have to buy it as soon as it goes on the market. You also have to pay more than listed price to get it because so many other people want it.. They do these "coming soon" listings and sometimes they are sold before its actually listed to sell. And it's not just this community but everywhere here. It's crazy.

My good story just happened this morning. As I was walking out to my driveway to pick up my morning paper, one of my neighbors was backing out of his driveway in his golf cart. As he drove past me, I waved him. He didn't wave back and continued on, turning the corner on his way out of the neighborhood. I though to myself, he probably has a lot on his mind and didn't notice me. I picked up my paper and proceeded back to the house and noticed the neighbor in the cart came back and pulled up to my driveway and apologized for not waving to me! I was so surprised and very touched by his concern for my feelings. That's an example of how nice the people are here in The Villages!! Scooter The DJ is great! One of my favorite entertainers at The Squares! Jerry you are hilarious answering the question about shaving legs! Thank you Jerry and Linda for another entertaining and informative video. 🧡

$394K??? Unfortunately The Villages are way out of my price range. I'll be lucky if I get 1/4 of that on my house here in WI (as I say it was a fixer upper when I and my late wife bought it 20 years ago and it will be a fixer upper when I sell it (which will be in about 4 1/2 years)). My FL retirement will probably be in a 55+ manufactured home park with a land lease deal, but it won't be Tanglewood in Sebring (it's a beautiful park, but the lot rent is quite steep (I sarcastically refer to Tanglewood as the poor man's Villages).

Think about this. A mover can cost thousands. It’s cheaper to buy all new unless you own stuff that cost thousands. When I moved, I sold or gave away anything I couldn’t move in mine and my son’s cars. Went to Rooms to Go and bought bedroom, dining room and living room furniture, just the minimum at first, zero interest for 18 mo., and then moved, settled in for a few months, then added extra pieces as I saw the need. I saved thousands in moving costs, packing etc. That said, I am not sentimental. I’m not a collector or hoarder. Moved from a 2 bedroom TH to a 1bedroom condo. Linda and Jerry give great information, but you had better have a healthy nest egg when you decide to move to The Villages, IMO.
@markmiller493 жыл бұрын
Wow! Double Wow! That is exactly what we did. Just bought a small trailer to haul down essentials i.e. tools, etc. Went to Rooms to Go and Lowes for appliances before we moved. Day after we moved in. Rooms to go came with our furniture in the morning and Lowes with refrigerator and washer and dryer in the afternoon. We were all good to go. And yes. The Villages isn't the cheapest place to live.

Sarah - my son just moved - even just renting a UHaul truck, unless you have Marge Carson furniture - it is cheaper to jus have a garage sale & buy new when you arrive at your new city.

I just recently moved from a 3bd 3 bath 1 1bd bdrm apt. I sold many items for a fraction of the cost or gave aways thousands of dollars of stuff. There are a few pieces I miss, most I don't. Buying new is expensive. I buy cheap on Facebook marketplace while I figure out where to move next. Just a hint, when you pack list what's inside the box. I labeled the room the box belonged to but failed to list the contents. I have hannukah candle but no menorah to hold them. Whoops. Happy moving folks
