I remember specifically asking a stylist how often I should get my hair trimmed if I'm trying to grow it out. She told me every 2 weeks!! What?? I never went back to her again.

I just found him and he changed my entire head with ONE video! My hair is healthier, softer, has more defined curls and moisturized. All I had to do was GO BACK to co-washing every day. My kinky curly 4B hair needs that moisture. I followed another YT’er and my hair started breaking, was always dry and dull. Dickey changed my life!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I stopped relaxing my hair 7-8 years ago and I have been fully frustrated this entire time. My hair is healthier but, I have never learned to style my natural hair in a way that made me comfortable, feel like me or feel comfortable at work or navigating my personal life. This led me to wear wigs or 2-strand twists most of this time. Further, wash day has literally been an all day process and this led me to wash it less (every 3-6 weeks) instead of more often. My job keeps me traveling most of the time so, I never had time to experiment and figure out styles, products and processes. I tried a wash & go once or twice and it was awful. My hair like most is multi-textured, soft and curly in the back and less so as you move to the front. I also thought I had very low porosity hair because my hair held no moisture. If I washed while in the shower it was almost dry by the time I got out. Well, I have been working from home the past 3 weeks so, this seemed like a good time to take you at your word and try going under the water at least every other day. All I can tell you is that I don't know who's hair I have on my head right now! Previously when I washed my hair it shed like you wouldn't believe, locked and tangled. NOW it is a full 180!. When I go under the water my hair barely reverts. It doesn't kink, clump or tangle and there's very little shedding. The comb glides through with little resistance. I only use leave-in/detangler for the conditioning quality, not because I need a detangler to comb it. My hair holds so much moisture now it's ridiculous and my full wash and condition process takes barely longer than it takes me to do my shower. The results are astounding! Who knew that my hair was revolting against me all these years and would love water this much or that going under the water several times a week was the key to alleviating all of the issues that made wash day such a burden in the first place?!? I'm still mind blown. I hope more people will listen to you preach the gospel of the importance of WATER as your #1 moisturizer. I'm not saying everyone will have the same 180 change the way I did but, I can tell you that water has become the game changer for me, even with my busy lifestyle. I haven’t yet met with a full wash and go that works but, I simply do my wash at night, I put a few large sections in large 2 strand twists and when I get up I have the most beautiful, simple, soft, ready to go head of hair. This will allow me to continue even through the winter. My daughter and I are planning a trip to New York so we can visit your salon. THANK YOU!!!

I have some dry ass, thin, weak, tangled hair that I have been hiding under weaves and braids for years...which embarrassingly I would only wash my stanky hair every 3 to 4 months. I got a cut 4 years ago and my hair is stuck at my jaw line. I am going to follow your advice and hopefully visit you. But if you should every come to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada my hair strands will be longing for your healing hands to save them.

Hi Dickey I think there should be a category 5 type of hair added to your chart as I think there is another hair quality being totally ignored? Have you worked with the type of hair that I would class as a type 5? Extremely tight, feels and looks dense, no shine, looks really dry but probably isn’t, the perimeter is peppered with ‘knot curls’ almost repels water? I’ve not seen this hair getting any attention online.

WAIT A MINUTE!!! When I get out of the shower I usually put my protective style in damp or wet. Holy moly. I was trying to avoid the heat cause so many, people say to keep the heat out of your hair. I thought that doing protective styling on your hair when it's damp is better. Oops. So since I have 4 type hair I need to stretch it before I do it. Well dag-gone. Next, can you do a video on the best drug store conditioners to use for co-washing? I would use yours, but it is always sold out.

Go dickey Go Go Go! Every time I washed blow dry then curl my hair, it will be soft and bouncy because I would bathe it in moisture oils and serums before setting or blow drying. Can I just say that I love the advice you give in general. However, that bit where you said don't trim and it's gonna break off is just not true and I don't know what the fascination is with trimming. don't get me wrong I'm not trying to tell you your job, but I've had this conversation soo many times with people and their like "if you don't trim your hair it won't grow" and they're so adamant about it, mean while their is shoulder length-ish maybe a little bit longer or shorter and my hair is nearer my ass. So the point that I'm making is I don't get urge to trim or be trimmed to have healthy hair when I don't trim ever and everyone tells me how healthy my hair looks, in fact when I tell people I've never had a trim they can't believe it because my hair looks healthy.

Thank you for all the information. Question: I’m 4b natural and recently started daily wngs. Ronnie B Drying my hair after a midweek wash and go is a challenge for me as well. I’m type 4 and I want my hair to be at least 80% dry when I go to bed. I’ve tried letting my curls set for 30 minutes and sitting under a hooded dryer for about 30 to 45 minutes, but my roots are still pretty damp and I end up having to diffuse my roots. I would like an easier, more effective process for drying my hair.
@buttrpecan9

Ronnie B it takes forever for my roots to dry. I can air dry for 8 hours and my roots still be dry. Sitting under a hooded hair dryer only dries the outside of my hair and then I have to diffuse. The diffuser I have is the one that came with the hair dryer and I’ve came to the conclusion that imma need a diffuser that can cover more surface area. I’ve tried the T-shirt( plopping) and that makes my hair frizzy. Also, I’m a type four kinky coily and if I chose to wet my hair everyday in the shower and condition all is good but when it comes to a styler, my styler is a gel. So I always add a leave in conditioner then a gel. Now I’m trynna wet my hair every two days, I wish I could use a good styling cream that can define my coils instead of gel. Back when I was doing my hair out of the shower, using gel wasn’t so bad but now that I’m trynna incorporate my hair routine with my shower routine I need a leave in that can act as a styler too. Basically I need a product that can double as a leave in and define my coils. Any suggestions?

Started seeing Dickey about a month ago. After daily or every two day WNGs, I find I don't even need gel. I use either his Curly Whip or Shea Moisture coconut and hibiscus styling milk. Some days I add a little mousse on top but other days nothing but the styler and I get compliments in NY! The trick is using enough product. I probably use about 1/4 to 1/3 of a bottle every time I do my hair, but my hair is collarbone length and super thick. Hope that helps!

Hey Dickey, I switched back to a relaxer a couple month ago after being natural for about 5 years. My natural and relaxed hair is always shedding. What can I do to help the shedding now that I'm back to using a relaxer, again?

So... I have kinky, coily hair, super thick hair - like hair type 4d or 4f!!! LOL. So how do I wash/moisturize it everyday w/o spending time under a dryer or blow drying because it takes 48 hours to dry? Thanks to your method, I now have the definition I was always trying to attain (Thank you!!!). However, because I have thick, kinky hair after washing or moisturizing it may take forever for my hair to dry and this equates time. How can I maximize my time while managing and taking care of my hair? Let's face it, 4c hair that is thick takes time to dry. I am currently wearing my hair shaved around the perimeter with hair on top, and my hair still takes forever to dry! Thanks again because until I saw your video, I thought I was going to wear my hair short for the rest of my life! I will never have long hair because I'm not patient and... I love short hair.

I'm trying to give this natural hair thing a try but it's not working. I'm in transitioning from a perm and my hair does not like it. I have salt and pepper hair and it stays dry. I know my hair dont like olive oil or coconut oil. What tip do you have for natural dry and none curly hair?

Dickey, I have kinky hair from the back of my ears back. My sides are not kinky but they tangle. The top (belongs to my Indian ancestry) has no curl pattern at all, it is neither kinky nor does it tangle. What can I do with it, do you have any ideas?

Mr Dickey if i have prepped my hair for protective styling ie, washed dc leave in moistuizer and put in twists. Is it ok to wet hair while in twists after a week as a rehydration method if i am keeping them in for a couple weeks? Im 3bc4a

I would refresh my twists but wouldn't thoroughly wet them as shed hair and water can cause tangles. At least that's the case with me.

Does the leave in conditioner you use when blowing out your hair for a twist out have to have silicones in it? Will the oils like grapeseed oil be enough to protect you from heat damage?
@nizbet5707
@nizbet5707 3 жыл бұрын
Silicone isn’t bad, it will protect your hair from the heat. Smoke point of oil is the same temp you are straightening at. That’s going to fry your hair. Maybe add an oil for sheen after you straighten but not much

You can transition and slowly cut off the relaxed ends or you can do the big chop.
