Hey, I have final solution for everyone! If you will buy ANY hub for thru axle with Boost (like 12x148) with possibility to replace end caps for quick release, you will get 141 mm width. End cups will adjust width from 148 mm thru axle to 141 mm QR. I have done it with Mavic CrossMax 29 Boost 12x148 (R2468110) and Mavic QR ID360 end cups 9x135 (V2510801). Final width is 141 mm. And you can do the exact same with DT Swiss, Hope, Bontrager or any hub with replaceable end cups. Mavic is probably the cheapest, you can do it for around 140 EUR. Other mentioned brands are 180 EUR for Bontrager and 220 EUR for DT Swiss and Hope.

I love the bike but the rear hub, Trek: I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT YOU HAVE CHOSEN SUCH A SHITTY BAD FORMULA HUB QUALITY ON A SUPREME FRAME LIKE THIS. I sent a mail to Trek about this because I am so disapointed. I'm an engineer and worked a lot with materials and metals, the metal they have chosen, not to mention the unbelievable bad dimension quality, it should have been a mass law suit. I realize this video is a few years old, but if by any chance, you're still getting your service done by the same LBS... beware? As many have already pointed out, the cassette was indeed loose. If the shop installed it, that's "very bad". Additionally, they goofed the wheel build. Valve hole is incorrectly clocked with the spoke groupings. This is not as bad as a loose cassette, but that shop charged you for a service that was executed subpar. Being that you are seemingly quite knowledgeable and care about your bike, I just wanted to mention this. In any case, this is a very informative video--thanks!

I have been riding xcaliber 7 2021 for almost a year. The rear hub was making ticking sounds and had to bring the bike to Trek to repair the hub. thanks for the video, I am learning a lot. One question: Can you fit the 29's on a medium size frame rosco 8? or is just on the XL frame?
@ofrenic3 жыл бұрын
Yeah there's not much in the size difference between 29 and 27.5+. They even say it on their website that you can go 29 x 2.4

What set up do you have today for your drive set. I have an X Caliber 8 with a 2x10, with the Boost 141 as well, and I'm wanting to swap it to a 1x11 or 1x12 with a 46 as the tallest gear.

I have a 2018 Norco Fluid FS1 … rear hub is shitty and blew the bearing on it again. Can I use this kit on my bike? Joytech Disc hub 135mm QR 32H
@ToogyHowser4 ай бұрын
As long as the Norco has the same rear hub then it should work, I honestly haven't looked at this for years since I don't own the Trek any longer.

Hello, excellent job, I also have 141 boost should do the same, you yourself have changed the core? I see the tire is the same Sun Ringlé, right? 😅

What size bicycle spokes have you been supplied with?

I’m wanting to do the same thing as you here but my local bike shop are charging ridiculous amounts of money for spokes so i am going to buy them myself but have no clue about spokes and what sizes to get Can anyone help?

Good luck, that is why I paid the shop, just make sure you find a good one! the first place I took my wheel did a brutal job and I had to pay another shop to do it right!

You seem to be pretty familiar with the Roscoe 8. If I’m changing out my groups set do you know exactly which bottom bracket I need to get ? Press fit or thread on ? Also When I get a new Hope Pro 4, What’s the difference in the steel and aluminum Shimano adapter ? Plan to change my 2018 sram nx to SLX 1x12

I don't know exactly, but it's a threaded bottom bracket, that much I can tell you!

So im gonna pull the plug, and upgrade the shitty formula hub to a hope hub...Any other suggestions or tips for the hope hub? Also, how is the hub in general ..i was looking the hope or the dt swiss 350..
@steele22234 жыл бұрын
Hi. Just wondering why you only replaced the hub rather then get a whole new wheel or wheel set? I have been looking at the same upgrade but once I pay for labour and new spokes to build the hub into my existing rim, the cost is about the same as buying a hope fortus 35 complete wheel. Thanks
@ToogyHowser4 жыл бұрын
new wheelset is probably the better option all said and done.

Super helpful bro I just for my 2020 Roscoe 7 And I want to upgrade is there anything else besides Hope 4 Since you made this vid ? Found the Hope 4 for 200 bucks but not sure of there is something less expensive that works Also can you recommend riser bar that suit the Roscoe
@ToogyHowser4 жыл бұрын
I'm not 100% sure of the alternatives, I know Hope, DT Swiss and Bontrager make hubs that are compatible

Can anyone provide alternative hubs and conversion kits? It's impossible to find exact hub model nowadays
@ryan240sx24 жыл бұрын
I see that you have a loose cassette stack, just make sure it's tight cuz it could ruin your freehub body
@memofo86544 жыл бұрын
My question is since you have to replace the spokes as well, which size, brand, modelnumber, etc spokes do you need to complete the hub swap?

Did you upgrade the front hub?
@chrismccrimmon66995 жыл бұрын
Hey bud. Can you clarify for me. The links in your description, is the conversion kit and the QR end caps the same thing? When I pull them up on ebay and Amazon they look the same. The end caps also state they convert it over to QR. I have a 2019 Roscoe8 with this same issue and trying to narrow down parts so I can order them and fix it. Hope to hear back from you!
@ToogyHowser5 жыл бұрын
yes they are the same thing :)

So I also have a boost 141 on my 2020 Xcaliber 7 and that thing is trash. The only thing that worries me is my rear cassette. I only have 9 speed cassette. Would this be a problem?

I think so, but I'm no expert haha

Hi I’ve recently purchased the same bike 2nd hand, 2 days later the the rear hubs gone. I’m new to all this but going to try to look for an aftermarket one as I don’t have the money to do it brand new... So I’m looking for a hope pro 4 148x12 boost, 28 hole, shimano hg? Not sure what the shimano hg is as I don’t see many there mostly xd!!!
@ToogyHowser4 жыл бұрын
yeah for the stock Sram NX cassette you'll need the shimano HG freehub. There are a few other hubs/wheels you can use if you can find them, DT Swiss, Bontrager etc.

I didn't really look that closely, I'll check it out later today. Not sure why you'd want to do anything with that hub other than toss it haha

Michael the 141 x 9 QR Formula Hub I have is from 2017 and from what I have seen is the end caps are fixed. I wouldn’t use this thing on any other bikes tho. It’s better as a paperweight!

Yeah I know but I have the possibility of getting a procal aluminum frame set. And thinking of transferring all my parts from my Roscoe on to that frame. More than likely not what I'm going to do but good to know my options.

Roscoe 6 here. Same hub. Same issue I think. While free spinning, I hear normal clicking but very loud "dry, worn out bearing sound" on top....is that the issue you had?

@@ToogyHowser thank u. So much fun when u wanna ride but all shops have 3 week turn around time. If i continue to ride it, am I further destroying just the free hub or both hubs? I am not sure if I should ride it until I get my hands on the replacement or is it more immediate service call? Do you think there is a chance of saving it with cleanup and repacking with grease?
