This ad’s been echoing around in my head for the last 30 plus years! I always loved it because Parra were victorious in the end, Manly were always such epic rivals back in them days. 30 plus years... about as long as it’s been since Parra has won a grand final... decades of clinging on to those glory days! :) Go the mighty Eels!

I remember this ad clearly...Id say about 85% was actual game footage, the staged bits were easy to pick.

I was an extra in the Rugby Union version of the ad, which was the Sydney v World XV. My back was Hugo Porta. As Rugby players we received the grand payment of World XV jersey. Which I sold for $200 the following year in a fund raiser for a tour. Sweet.

Correct me if I`m wrong (and people don`t hold back on youtube) but that was 83 and I was always amused that no real Sea Eagles went along with the more stagey parts of the ad. Tooheys nicked all the good bits from the real games and then probably filmed it in a park in Strathfield but the only actual Sea Eagles near the end that I could spot was Steve Hegarty. Hardly a household name. Parra had Tooheys by the short and curlies.

Oh mate it just gets better. I just saw the Ray one and now the one I have been looking for for years. It is obviously a real game but do ya reckon some bits were scripted? NAAAH, we always beat Manly when it counted in the 80'S. They were the days. Thanxxxx again mate!!!

Parramatta won this game 19 to 10. Game was in the balance. But ray price scored the match winner. It was a thriller at belmore. Nothing like the 80s.

They look like skinny white boys wearing Grace Jones shoulder pads compared to today’s players...but what great players they were. Brett Kenny was so good he kept the future “immortal” Wally Lewis to the bench during the Kangaroos tour, and Ray Price, what a tough, unrelenting player he was.
