I really feel like Maynard wasted the second half of this song. It would be so much better if he actually sang on it.

I agree. The song could have flown, transformed into a whole new entity with vocals and a change of pace, key. The riff that takes up the second half of the song is basically a rewrite of a riff from "Reflection". And , it doesnt lead to anything, or venture to the places that, say Invincible does. Ive always felt the second half of the song was lost potential. I love the swirling spacey synth that introduces the song, - something like that, and could have really been used again in the second half.
