@@edvelasco7655 Aside from Danny and Cevin being friends, there was a lot of collaboration and crossover with bands in the late 80s and 90s so as a music fan you would be exposed to different genres of music. Imagine this roundabout connection, that would expose you to a different music genre in either direction if you were a fan of one or the other. Ogre (Skinny Puppy) and Trent Reznor (NIN) played together in a super group called Pigface, later Reznor and other members of NIN would collaborate with Tool for the Tapeworm project.

"I wanna develop new chops, so I can have something to offer." Word? He seems really humble for one of the greatest drummers of all time.
@ILikeWafflz
@ILikeWafflz 4 жыл бұрын
I'll be honest; I've learned a lot of his stuff in Tool; he is an excellent performer and he could not be a better fit for them, and he certainly has a unique approach to his compositions, BUT, THAT SAID, he does not actually use much in the way of "chops". He has 5 or 6 styles of fills that he mixes together in various ways, but a lot if it is surprisingly straight-forward, and I must stress, there is _nothing wrong with that_ . It's just to say that I understand what he means by saying he wants to develop new chops.
@stevesmith8588
@stevesmith8588 4 жыл бұрын
ILikeWafflz What sort of chops would you suggest Danny works on?
@adams7786
@adams7786 4 жыл бұрын
@@ILikeWafflz I'm a drummer and have been playing along to Tool for a long time now and know what you mean! He's very tasteful with what he uses for the song. He's a very musical drummer and if there were gospel/jazz/funk etc chops in their songs, probably wouldn't even suit Tool IMO. I'm sure he knows a LOT more than he's letting on though. Thats what humble people say 🤣
@ILikeWafflz
@ILikeWafflz 4 жыл бұрын
@Cody Harbuck Check my channel! I'm not speaking against him; I was saying, as a person that's been playing a whole lot of Tool over the past few years, despite all of the polyrhythms, he does a lot with less than you'd think. There are a lot of components to the Fear Inoculum songs that took me surprisingly little effort to learn because I've become so familiar with his style. I appear to have stirred up some defensiveness with my comment, and if that is so it was misunderstood. To say a drummer does not use much in the way of "chops" is NOT an insult; it's an acknowledgement of style, and is no different from commenting on what genre they play.
@ILikeWafflz
@ILikeWafflz 4 жыл бұрын
@@stevesmith8588 I don't mean to imply "he should work on his chops" with my comment, but rather, I understand the interest in wanting to go sit and work on adding some new patterns to one's drumming vocabulary. I'm not sure how many of the responses I'm getting are from drummers, but for those that aren't, speaking _as_ a drummer, it's easy, even for the crazy-good pros, to get into a bit of a "fill rut", and to want to go sit and work on some fresh patterns to fall back to. It's part of the natural cycle of making music.

Even some exclusive visuals would be cool af, cut from the concert footage to some killer exclusive tool visuals. A new EP would be perfect. With a MONSTER of an album that was Fear Inoculum, it would be soooo cool to have a short EP that’s like 30 min long, with some solid 5 minute average songs. Something that doesn’t have to have the pressure of topping the last project like FI did, what with the 13 year wait it needed to be pretty long and epic but now that they have that out and the pressures off it would be cool af to get another EP I think this is the perfect time for it.

Jeff Huntsinger I mean the songs on this album are just larger in scale, there a slower build up to these songs so they are definitely less in you face. I can see where you’re coming from but I still think the songs are catchy. But the structure of the songs on FI are completely different from what is on their previous records. Like I said they’re less quick to the point in your face, and more long slow burners that gradually build up. And I can see why people don’t really like that and I can see why people do really like it. Ænima is my favorite and will probably always be my favorite, but Ænima and FI are so different it’s hard to even compare the two. I feel the same with a lot of King Crimson album where their albums are so unique from one to the other that it’s hard to even compare some of them.

Aside from an EP, I hope after this huge tour he mentions (once it finally gets to happen) a new live release would be amazing. Do kind of a Led Zeppelin Song Remains the Same type thing where you have the album itself and then a DVD/Blu-ray of concert footage. Even some exclusive visuals would be cool af, cut from the concert footage to some killer exclusive tool visuals. I mean imagine 7empest live but when it hits the solo it cuts to some cool video visuals you’ve never seen. I’m dying for them to do something like this.

@@user-uy3eq5hg1s I believe that last part is accurate! I watched an interview with MJK and he mentioned that basically the other guys send him the finished work and then he does his vocals. Not to by any means take away what Maynard does, but from a musical standpoint it sounds like he has very little to do with the sound tool makes and really just focuses on his vocals and what he brings to the table. It's really awesome how over the years they've found a niche that works for them. And it has yet to disappoint!... Cept maybe Culling voices lol. That song is a really... "okay"
