@ScalerWave Thanks Jim - yeah the intro has all of those triplets happening over the 4/4, it really sounds odd until you listen a few times. I love that drum polyrhythm at 6:30, where Carey plays 3/4 on the hi-hat and 4/4 on the snare/kick, and they overlap every 3 measures - insane.
@byronbranch46454 жыл бұрын
That's my favorite part of any tool song. And eulogy isn't even my fav song by them.
@simonenoli441810 жыл бұрын
6:35 mark had my jaw dropping too mate. They ain't triplets tho. It's a 3 on 4 polirhythm and it stuck in my head so ferociously that still now after years i have even touched a drumstick i unconsciously play it. If math really is God's language then this polirhythm is God's singing.
@tristonwilliams10 жыл бұрын
I think hes meaning the accent (open hi-hat) on every third hi-hat sixteenth note and he's just referring to it as "triplets". I don't think he literally meant "triplets" due to the fact that he didn't play it that way in this cover.
@vommittt7 жыл бұрын
I think the same. I've never touched a drumstick by I feel like I could play these songs just by hearing them so much. Anyway I'm surely a mess on drums

@MrSpunkpump Cool, it's great to know that these videos are good for more than one viewing. Each time I learn a Tool song, I'm amazed at how much work Carey put into composing the drums. Hi John. Thanks for sharing this video, you did a great job and you serve as inspiration and motivation as I'm starting drums myself after being playing the guitar for the past 20 years or so. I have one comment though: I don't know whether someone has pointed this out already (there are too many comments to read them all), I think that the intro is done not with the drums but with the guitar, by playing the A string at the bridge of a Gibson Les Paul. That's how I play it and it sounds close.
