The "Shadow" is just what Carl Jung and others have called those parts of our psyche that we aren't aware of- generally "dark" aspects of ourselves that we have suppressed- desires and weaknesses we can't or won't face. Becoming aware of these shadows and integrating them into our conscious awareness is vital to becoming a whole person. That's just a quick, probably not entirely accurate, version of what the shadow signifies.

Throw in Jimmy, Ænema, H. and you might have just about all my faves in there. You also may want to mention that Wings For Marie(part 1) and 10,000 Days(Wings part 2) should be reacted to together, not separate. Do a little research into Maynard's mother and the songs mostly relating to her, The Patient, Intermission/Jimmy, Judith by A Perfect Circle(one of Maynard's other bands) and Wings 1 and 2. P.S. Hooker With a Penis is a must, the song, although absolutely filled with curse words, is not as dirty as it sounds, and is one of the most riotously funny and angry songs there ever was.

Rev. Maynard is Preaching his sermon. A Reverend of ethereal consciousness. Much Like Pink Floyd, Tools Music delves deeper into the psyche of the listener by way of the writer. There are Fans that only hear the music but not the message. This is the difference between Listening to a song and Hearing it. Tool is by far the most introspective band I patron and I listen daily. This song is the reason I got into Jungian psychology. Our persona is who we present to the world, that persona is driven by the next layer which is our ego. Underneath the ego is our Shadow. Our shadow is our darkest hurtful things we think about ourselves. All of our trauma bubbles up from our shadow into our ego and ultimately into our persona. We have to "soften up this old armor" and go deep into our shadow and work through that so our egos are not toxic and our persona isn't nasty. He talks a lot of about the shadow in this song. From what I read on the song, he is also speaking about a time when we all process our shadows and step through our dark shit. When ALL of us do it and the change that could result.
@user-gl4qb2qk8d Жыл бұрын
And nobody else ever picks that up!! Maynard puts Jungian psychology into SO many different TOOL songs. But the whole shadow work goes COMPLETELY OVER people’s heads! Unless-they’ve studied Carl Jung. I haven’t come across anyone else who noticed that.

Ok.. Let me try and break down what Carl Jung, and I’d highly recommend his books, was talking about. He was simply saying that the Shadow is the part of you that you suppress, possibly willingly, and contains the genuine, and many times darker, aspects of yourself. Jung believed that by unlocking that subconscious part your mind, you could truly evolve. But you have to be willing to face those things, and trust me, it’s very terrifying to take that trip, to say the least. But to fully transform into your higher being, which would involve physical transformation as well, hence the extra pair of chromosomes, you have to honestly face who you truly are. Only then can you be complete and enlightened being. Yeah, trippy shit huh?? But I suspect Maynard is talking about something much deeper, and more personal than that. Gotta love Tool

I am having a jamalathon at the beach on my vacation in a tropical depression. This is helping so much. Smiles and good music. Prayers and love to all dealing with Storm Sally in the gulf. I'm in myrtle Beach and can feel the energy of it here. 🙏🙏🙏

He was a west point grad so that has a little to do with the lyrics. I'm not sure what cubbyhole he was in when he came up with that but I'm thinking it was a pretty deep one! Love this song and my favorite, Hands Down, is Ainema if I spelled that correctly. The transitions and the lyrics are solid gold! If you haven't already this needs to be the next one you hear! And Eulogy!

Bruce Borneman who went to West Point? Maynard? I know he was in the Army but didn’t know he went to West Point.
@bruceborneman4 жыл бұрын
@@XxStonedImmaculatexX I'm not 100 percent sure but I think I'm 90 percent sure that Maynard graduated west point or he dropped out of it at some point when he realized that wasn't the direction he wanted to go. I hope I'm not wrong. Sorry if I am

Those parts in the song where his voice is very quiet is on purpose. The other stuff in the vid besides the song lyrics are info into an aspect of the 46+2/Christ Consciousness

Oh my.... Tool opening up my mind for 15 years now. the music is hypnotysing for me.Its the music it pulls out of me a feeling i don't get from anything else. And Maynard's voice is perfect for all of it. You should watch the live version it's trippy

I would be wary of the "explanations" in the vid. Really just interpretations, and iffy ones at that.

I'm a rabid fan of Tool for about 20 years now and I this is one of my all time favorites...and I can barely begin to describe wtf it's about. One of the best things about this band is their lyrics don't spell it out. They will never, ever spoon feed you the point. They'll never even confirm if you got it right in your analysis. It's open to interpretation, like literature.

I've seen a few of your vids, I think I discovered you via Jinjer - Pisces reaction (♥) and though I didn't sub right away, I am subbing now, as I click on this video, getting ready to share your first experience with you. I've loved your reactions and I know that you get it. This is one of, if not my all-time favorite. I can read the title, I know EXACTLY why I'm here, and now diving in. See ya on the other side... God, that opening bassline. Impales me. As for the wording in the video itself versus the song lyrics, they were just ... appropriate quotes. The original is, as you probably know by now, was recorded as you heard it. I think you can describe that feeling, trying to find something to focus on while listening to tool as sensory overload, lol! That was an awesome reaction. On my way to finish binging on your tool collection, and snoop and see what else ya got :) Take care dude, and keep up the fantastic work. Very much appreciated.
