That effect that Adam is using on his guitar during the drop is called a talk box. It's tube that is inserted in the guitar players mouth and he adjusts the tone of the guitar via manipulating the inside of his mouth. Peter Frampton is the guitar player who made those famous.

JAMBI is the name of the Genie in the Pee Wee Herman tv show. That’s why Maynard references “wishing” throughout the song. The is about the birth of his son Devo and how scared he was about becoming a father for the first time. And also the state of the world he was bringing him into. Was he going to be a good father but he was willing to give everything up for his son.

Maynard is definitely a unique voice. I love it so much. He has a way of being powerful without sounding like he’s straining. He also shows a very different side of himself in his other band Puscifer.

The sound effect is called a VOCODER, or "talk box". its tied to the guitar and powered by talking through a tube. Same thing Peter Frampton used for his hit "Show Me the Way"

The guitar effect is called a Talkbox. I think it works by sending the guitar sound up through a tube to the guitar players mouth. Then the sound is varied with the guitar players mouth. This sound is then sent down through the mic. I could be wrong about this.

I interpret the song to be about human struggle (addiction, selfishness, lust, etc sin). With the line "two become one" sounds like man and wife (rather, a couple) becoming one in unity... "Divided I'm withering away" ie: Love, will save us all. 💞

@alshurdom69173 жыл бұрын
This is why I love Maynard. I see you pondering his ethos...his meaning. I love it. The way I interpret this song is like this...this is a song to his mother. Judith Marie, his mom, was/is a driving force in his life. She passed away. Hence, the title of the album. 10,000 Days is how long she lived after a life altering event. She died prior to this album's release. The beg like a hooker...all the line's in the beginning of the song "feast like a Sultan I do..." is all about his rock star status. Girls, money...and I'm sure--drugs, because why not? Yet, he would wish it all away if he thought tomorrow would take her away. Meaning, he'd give it all up for one more day with his mom. Beautiful, honest...Maynard. For my money, he's the best lyricist ever...EVER...and it's not even close.

Yeh the guitarist appears to be using wot i think is called a talk box. A tube is connected to the guitar up to microphone stand and guitarist puts mouth over the Talk Box and kinda makes sings or makes vocal noise to which guitar coverts to this sound effect. Richie Sambora used it famously in Bon Jovi used song "Livin on a Prayer".

It's called the wakening. Its when your spirit is waking up from this fake reality. Tool is that. The drummer Danny uses a lot of tribal poly rhythms that gives fuel to the soul for the wakening. I've been listening to them since 92 when I was 11yrs earth strong. Have turn back since.

About the newest tool album, I shunned it for a while and when I finally bought it, I really liked it obviously, but one thing I may say about it now is that it is dominated by the instruments, and the emotional aspect that comes from Maynard seems to be sidelined, it's just not there like it is in the other albums, I don't know why, maybe that's just what happens. I think it is time to have another listen to it soon.
