Here's a secret most pros never say, Dimebag Darrell told people all the time though: the best musicians don't treat anything like a mistake. With enough practice they gain the ability to adapt to a mistake and incorporate it into what they were doing in such a way that it sounds like intentional improvisation. Which means every note is played as if it's intended even if it wasn't, i.e. all the pros make mistakes but they can adapt and hide them. Often these mistakes become new songs in themselves. e.g. The main riff from Shine On You Crazy Diamond was an accident.

drummer265 Yes! Hes one of my inspirations when it comes to drumming. He made me change my view and thinking and playing outside the norm when it comes to drumming. Used to play to their album aenima on drums everyday after school lol. I like how unique and unorthodox his set up is too. Him and Jimmy Chamberlin are two of my fav drummers that are really good at utilizing their ride cymbals when it comes to grooving. Instead of how most drummers just ride on their cymbal to get that washy ride noise, Danny and Jimmy really use their ride and get so many different pitches and tones out of their rides. Sorry went kinda on about your comment lol but youre right hes amazing!

Logan Wilder Totally agree man! Carey is by far my favorite drummer and has probably influenced me more than anyone else. He might not be the technical best, but he's hands down the most creative and expressive behind the kit that I've ever heard. Chamberland is an absolute monster player too. I've been getting into Benny Greb a lot lately too (check out grebfruit by him if you dont know it, kind of an odd jazzy tune, but that solo, hot damn!)

I have never seen them in person but in the live videos they seem ok but nothing compared to iron maiden, or judas priest in the 80s, heck those were experiences that one can never forget. yeah i am an old bastard but I seen concerts by all the bands that made tool who they are and what they are. it was a complete different era of metal back then and those bands put on more then just a stage show they were interactive with the crowd. I remember Iron Maiden had a giant space man that floated over the audience that show paper wads at them from a ray gun and pyro techniques you jsut cant do that kind of stuff any more safety regs do not allow it.

@@adge74 oh I agree and there have been many other bands that had great music with almost no stage show, but there have been some seriously great bands that also put on stage performances that would blow your socks off. I love tool they are one of my favorite bands to listen to but I would love to see them go back to their roots like the undertow album on a future release, all these years later and all the experience they have now I bet they could put out a incredible, hard fast and thrashing metal album. their progression is kind of like savatage's and they morphed from blistering metal into the trans siberia orchestra, which is metal still but so produced that it does not sound anything like the power of the night album or anything prior to it.

Actually, the music is written before Maynard writes the lyrics and melody. separate notes from the chords-and ONLY after they have the music figured out and rehearse d to make any tweaks to it…THEN they send Maynard a recording and he writes the lyrics and the melody (which he works in with the key and the rhythm) you’ll notice that he lines the lyrics to the CYMBALS when Danny hits them, it lines up with each part of the lyrics-like a reminder to Maynard to start to sing each word at that moment-But I always imagine him sitting down with a book on Jungian Psychology (46+2-shadow self,facing your most toxic trait that you project onto others, references to Archetypes -The hero’s journey (The Patient, Lost Keys, Wings for Marie) and an English to Latin dictionary which he decides to take a Latin word and then conjugates it into a word that doesn’t exist- Pneuma-Like pneumatic or pneumonia which both involve air-and suddenly there’s a word that’s used for Breath and Breathing and in Fear Inoculum (allegorical elegy-not specifically in a different language, but those words are rarely used together-an allegorical elegy is a succinct, didactic story, in prose or verse, that illustrates one or more instructive lessons or principles.AKA a PARABLE. Not a parabola…but it’s used purposefully for that specific song… Only one of many, many interpretations of the band and their songs…it’s my own personal opinion, but there’s nobody else besides the members of TOOL to step forward and clearly state that they have a specific intention… except to be one of the greatest bands ever and the fact that a 4 person band is made up of the greatest musicians and they just somehow found each other… Could this be the purpose of many of Maynard’s lyrics? Blatantly spoken in The Patient = “If there was no desire to heal…the broken and weary met along…on this tedious path I’ve chosen”.

To non-Tool fans who don't get why we consider Tool one of the greatest bands ever, they tend to dissect each musician as an individual. However I have tried, sometimes successfully and others not so, to get them to see Tool for what they are. A single entity. Their music is alive and not your generic pop or mainstream bullshit.

@@FirstLast-zv5od I have a Tool shirt from high school (1995-ish) that had the original Tool logo on the front with a distorted image of Jesus in the positive space (I wore that shirt for *months* before I even noticed the Jesus thing, ha), and across the back it read "All indians, no chiefs", meaning there is no "frontman" or whatever. We are all equal quarter parts of this band. I always loved that.

Tony Johnson Def worth the effort to catch em live man.. I got to see them live with my dad back in 2006 when I was 16 or 17. I know Isis (another great band who unfortunately split a few years ago) opened for Tool; & I think 1 other band opened before Isis too but I forget who lol. Tool is def one of the most impressive bands I've seen as far as quality/sound/performance/etc live; not to mention the crazy visuals like the trippy ass lights in sync with the music haha. Don't think I've ever seen so many ppl smokin so much bud at a concert (at least as far as indoor venues), as I did at the Tool show haha. Hard to believe it was 10+ years ago already..I def wanna catch em live again, esp if they release a new album. Pretty sure they played my area fairly recently in the last year or 2; but I unfortunately didn't hear of it til like the night of the show or 1-2 days after lol. Pretty much every concert I've ever been to were luckily solid shows, but Tool & Primus easily are 2 of the most impressive live bands I've been lucky to see perform by far. Now THAT'd be a lineup worth almost anything to see, if Primus & Tool toured together haha. I'm just babbling though don't mind me lol..
@EricJh21690

What I'm mainly trying to say is you should make a point to know as far in advance as you can when their next show is..Then you can make proper plans whether takin a day off work, putting enough $ aside for tickets & shit ahead of time, and anything else necessary so you won't miss the show haha. Tool's one of those rare bands out there worth making some sacrifices to see live while you can before it's too late and they hang it up. I'll always do as much as I can to see certain bands because I know I'd forever regret it; like I do knowing I'll never see some of the bands/musicians who influenced me the most. like Pantera/Dime, Alice in Chains/Layne Staley, etc.

Okay first off that panthers bit is great, and secondly I miss tool concerts more than any other live event. I remember the old tours and the ones after 10,000 days. The light work the sound the crowd and the dank smell of weed. Ultimately nothing compares to the trance like state of these performances. Danny and his drum solos are permanently in my brain. People don’t understand what those solos are like live. No lie. And the guitar riffs those are trance central. Maynards vocals and humor remind you this is all human. What I would give to relive those memories. It was personal and very powerful end of fucking story.

Ordinarily, a Zeppelin cover would be such a terrible idea because no mere mortal could come close to John Bonham's talents. Except Danny Carey. I approve

Agreed. There are four reasons why you avoid Zeppelin covers. Page, Plant, Jones and Bonham. Extraordinary talent for their era of rock.

No matter what Tool will always be the Lords of heavy metal. Even at over fifty Maynard is still singing, I’ve covered the vocals for many Tool songs and what Maynard does is not easy, then he has to perform live in front of hundreds of people that’s tough. No one will ever top Tool in my books. Great job guys and thank you for the upload. Enjoyed it a lot!!

One of the actual favorite things about this band for me is Danny Carey's jerseys...just to show they're not too up their own asses about it like some bands get. and they outplay basically all of them.

Real Rock/metal musicians not only understand, we ( the real ones ) actually understand what it truly IS we are witnessing here ! Its on the level of Rush and Dream Theater, NO OTHER Music is one this level !! NONE !! I am a true Maiden Fan for Life , but even Maiden is on a different level , the next lower one. I am also a bass player , since 85. Cliff Burton was a Major god , John Myung , Billy Sheehan & Geddy are Major gods. Entwhistle, Geezer, Rudy Sarzo, Riff West, Micheal Anthony, Marco Hietala, Pete Way, Leon W ( cat in the hat ) all minor gods. Justin is on the same level as Cliff - Technical gods on the bass and associated gear ! Geddy MAY BE a step above - he can sing, and play keys, and taurus pedals all at once !!! See concert footage of Xanadu or one of the tribute players who set up the rig and ( kinda Play it ) these REALLY Show what has to happen to make a song like this happen . That is what you are talking about when you say "we get it !! " SALUTE !!! I agree !!! ps We would have paid about 1500 a ticket to see them in 2019 in Detroit, so I skipped it . I'll pay the 50 bucks for 2 years of YT downloader , and watch it over and over on a 60 inch screen wired to an 800 watt FOH system in the living room ! With bottle of Bird Dog and some friends :) AND YES , I Pay the Band - I BOUGHT a real copy of Fear Innoculum, the DVD of Vicarious, two CDs of 10,000 days and 2 of Lateralus , plus all the other stuff , shirts, books, APC, Puscifur, and I am sure eventually , Caduceus wine :) showing my fucking age :) haha
