In this episode, we make a brass solder scraper. This tool prevents scarring when cleaning and dressing solder joints. A fun and easy confidence build if you are new to making tools. Lathe not needed but it sure makes it fun.

Oh man, definitely want to see more solder scraping. A detail I completely missed on brass instruments until now. It absolutely makes a joint look more expensive lol

Wes, I’m loving the new video formats! It’s really cool to see some of the processes that you take to make these tools and then how they help you with the instrument repairs. Keep it up!

I only watch the long-format videos. Don’t have short enough an attention span to watch any KZbin shorts. But don’t let that stop you from making that content, I’m sure lots of people like short videos. But I come to your channel for these 10+ min uploads. 🤘

Any format is enjoyable and informative. You could also drill and tap for some set screws to make changing the blade easier when it is no longer good, A small flat on the end of the blade would keep it rigid.

Formats: I don't care for shorts. Too short, lack your valuable narrative, and are mostly eye candy rather than content. Your channel is one of my most favorite.

I'm okay with all formats. The work you're doing here is not only informative, but rewarding as well to know more music is out there from your works. You do your craft a great service, because you are surely helping to usher in more folks to take on your trade , thereby compounding the effect of these videos. Keep making content. 👍👍👋

Thanks for sharing how to make a simple tool. Regarding the format, I think you could occasionally film what is happening on any day. Customers bring in instruments, y'all work on them, customers take instruments home. Also, I would like to see more work on woodwinds. I loved your clarinet rebuild last year.

What about aluminum? Some alloys are not as hard as brass and solder will not stick to them. Also, super hard hardwoods like purple heartwood? Maybe even the rest of that drumstick?

I am unfamiliar with soldering brass instruments. I have in the past, however, silver braised, steel tubing, and fittings together. Remember the braze or perhaps in this case, the solder will go wherever the flux is. In my case, I would use masking tape to define the area on the tube that I didn’t want the silver braze to exceed and then I put the flu on and then just before I heated it, I would remove the tape. This probably would work well if you’re soldering a joint, particularly for plumbing and you want it to look good. As a sidenote, if you are using voice to text in KZbin, as I must because of vision issues, check every word before you post it, because artificial intelligence in this case is extremely poor and changes the words to something stupid.

I don't care for the shorts. Shorts are for puppies barking at hot oatmeal. Your content is a process, which I love to sit back and take it in. Thanks for all your hard work! BTW, the intro is too loud.
