I was reading in an article that the producer of Tool (David Bottrill) would run the mics from the drums into a PA system with huge speakers to make the drums sound more punchier.

Thanks, great to hear a more technical reaction. Many will disagree, but for me, the album Lateralus, the album that followed this one, and their live album Salival, were Tool in their absolute prime. Maynard's voice was god tier at this time, and Salival, being entirely live, and yet practically flawless, is a real monument to this band. I'd be excited to see you react to some songs from Lateralus in particular. But Salival too, as most other reaction channels I've seen have bypassed it. Subbed.

Hey man, check out Rosetta stoned out of the album 10000 days, it was produced by Joe barresi, one of my altime favourite non mainstream producer who takes the time to experiment with the artists in studio. Joe also produced Fear Inoculum (their last album) and 7empest is kind of an amped up version of rosetta stoned (to me anyways..), Tool received a grammy for that one so mayb check that one aswell.

I have no idea how many songs per band you're into doing, but the next three albums have great mixes, imo. Schism (or the grudge, as suggested below) off of Lateralus; the pot or intension/right in two off of 10000 days; and descending off of fear innoculum are ones I'd go to first. Their panning and layering is excellent, imo.

Tool have a very emotional and cathartic mix to their music (I'll be honest i had it pointed out on a video like this. I have NO musical talent) that i felt from first listen but never understood. Listen to songs like Forty six and 2, third eye, wings for Marie part 2 and parabola for example. The sound surrounds you and sort of entrances you, then they will focus in and feel like they cut you in half. Add Maynard's lyrics and emotional range and the hard/soft tone to the music. These songs can still surprise your emotions 10 years after your first listen Great introspective to a song i already love. Would love to hear you cover more by this band or other loud 90s era stuff like Nine Inch Nails
@trzykawki
@trzykawki 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen cathartic used to describe their music before and yet to me that is exactly what it is. You have to participate in that emotion build up for the release to sweep you off your feet. If you can't do that - you will never enjoy the music beyond the basic rhythm or melody.

Alright, I am a member of the Tool Army. A 55 year old member. You really do need to look into Lateralus or 10,000 Days. More importantly, as a sound engineer, you need to dive into Led Zeppelin. Jimmy Page is a master in many ways.

I am only pointing this out to help you improve your channel's sound quality, and I sincerely apologize if this is a result of your own speaking, but there is a sharp whistle occurring on the 's' sounds and some of the 't's as well. It is quite noticeable when watching with a headset, and in my opinion it is uncomfortable to listen to, like nails on a chalkboard. Aside from that, I love your style of analysis, and really appreciate getting a sound engineering point of view on Tool, one of my favorite bands. Keep up the good work, and I could see your channel really gaining a lot of notoriety.
