I have a homelite gas weedeater, love it, but I agree, those mtd gas weed eaters such as that troybilt has a unsafe idle. Thankfully, my homelite 2 stroke weedeater has a clutch so it doesn’t spin when it’s idling.
@kzdom11511 ай бұрын
Turning the idle down was pretty simple, but I agree having a clutch would be nice.
@tyty96992 жыл бұрын
There's a switch on the weedeater to adjust the clutch and stop it from turning when you're not using it and when you're ready to use it while its running just move the switch d the clutch engages
@kzdom11511 ай бұрын
I don't think this particular model has a clutch, I could be wrong though. The only switch I've found is the shut off switch. That being said 90% of the "issues" I had with this trimmer were due to my own stupidity.

Have a homeLite gas trimmer curved shaft, no issues so far, plus it has a clutch, Would definitely recommend the homeLite or Hyper-tough 26cc 2 cycle gas trimmers, they’re safer to use and are a lot cheaper and affordable to purchase. You won’t be disappointed.
@kzdom11511 ай бұрын
I honestly was too unfamiliar with the trimmer just starting out. I did a follow up pointing out where I screwed up. I definitely am going to be staying away from the review style videos. If I need a new trimmer I'll check out the homelite
@MaxRice-pq1qe2 жыл бұрын
These typer of gas trimmers have a super high idle, which makes it unsafe to use and operate that gas trimmer, so thankfully my gas trimmer has a clutch. I would strongly recommend a Hypertough or homelite gas trimmers with the clutch plus there usually affordable to buy.

It took me awhile to figure this machine out. Most of my complaints were due to my own stupidity. I did adjust the carb and lower the idle. It obviously still spins the head but not fast enough to do any damage.

I’m thinking about buying myself a Father’s Day gift. It’s on sale now for $99 at Northern Tool. How’s it holding up? Should i purchase warranty? It would only be used for my home not business.
@kzdom1153 жыл бұрын
To be honest, it has become my go to trimmer, for basic jobs. I really need to make another video on it. Once the engine got broken in, it fires right up. My only complaint at this time is that there is no clutch so even at idle the head spins.
@aaronwilson16669 ай бұрын
I just got one of these, and I hate having to stop it and then try to get it going again. It doesn’t like restarting it seems.
@kzdom1159 ай бұрын
Hopefully, it just needs to break in. Mine is still going strong. The only real maintenance I've done is carb cleaning and swapping the bump head for a quick change head.
@jameslawnmowerrepair2 жыл бұрын
When restarting it you dont choke it and all of that just leave it at 3 and it should start right up
@kzdom1152 жыл бұрын
It seems like now that I've ran it for several hours, it is much easier to start/restart in general. That or I have just learned how to use the tool correctly like you pointed out. It has been my go to trimmer this summer, for general yard stuff, nothing heavy duty. I've been happy with it so far.

Can you please make a video on how to change the string? I cannot figure that out for the life of me. There are no other videos videos that I am aware of, and I can’t find anything else unless I’m missing something very obvious.

The reason of it spinning is the cost it makes it cheaper to not have a clutch in it also that head is very cheap
@kzdom11511 ай бұрын
They definitely did what they could to keep the cost down. Luckily most of my issues were user error. I was able to lower the idle to make it for spin dangerously fast at idle.

1:43 I just saw this machine in the store today and am thinking of buying it. 1:43 Is it that dangeous for the use? What part of it can cut the user? Or is it the grass that flies up that can cut a person like that?

Yes when debris flies up from the line throwing it it will HURT ALOT ive done it many times and one time it almost cost me my right eye

I was using a different trimmer with a saw blade attachment on it. It was a combination of kick back and tripping that led to my accident. It left a pretty. Neat scar

I actually prefer how the head spins at idle. I dislike weed-wackers with the clutch because I feel like I have to rev the piss out of them just to do little detail work when trying to trim grass in between cyclone fences and around flowerbed brick. I find all it does is blow through string too quickly and I can’t do near as clean of a job. I also like how this trimmer spins at a clockwise rotation so that it doesn’t spray you with debris nearly as much. That doesn’t benefit people who are lefty’s, but certainly benefits me. I think I’ll give this machine a try because I’m absolutely hating my new Craftsman I just bought!….
@kzdom1158 ай бұрын
I do find that I have learned to use the idle to do those small spots between fence posts and what not. I did end up switching the head out with a gator head because mine wore out. It allows for faster string changes and thicker strings that last longer too.
@Twizztify8 ай бұрын
@@kzdom115awesome! So how has it held up overall since you bought it? Still running strong with minimal issue? Thanks!

I was starting it wrong in the video. You have to pump the primer like 10x, put choke on, hold it at full throttle, then pull start. It usually takes me three to five pulls . It really can be tough to start sometimes.

Mine doesn't even start right out of the box! Lol

I wasn't following the proper starting procedure, and they can be difficult to start before they are really broken in. I hope you get it figured out.
