Yes! The lyrics during that meditative, airy part you like are “cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion” so I also interpret it as communication being a key to keeping that atrophy from happening.

I see schism like Judson, infact you can find the phrase "finding beauty in the dissonance" in lyrics, and even the song structure seem to rapresent the pieces fall apart and the dissonance in terms of musicality.

On the subject of prog metal bands doing really laid back, meditative versions of their music -- The Contortionist have done this. They have this album "Language", which they reworked into "Language (Rediscovered)" back in 2015. Really cool stuff.

okay , that make sense. I drink, but only on social bases, never had a problem with it. At home I don;t drink a drop, unless friends are coming over. I Find alcohol healthy for the mind. It takes away your edge, you more relaxed, having fun and being social. I need this social behaviour, it's in our genes, we have been doing this for thousands of years, it's a human thing to do so. When I saw TOOL in 2019, I never stopped jumping. They played Schism, Aenima, 46&2, etc. But when I saw them in 2021, it was totally different. More of their meditative stuff. A lot of us stayed seated, eyes closed. It was more of a sonic experience.

Great reaction guys (as always). Schism is one of Tool's top ten songs for me personally. If you'd like to hear something meditative/psychedelic from Tool (or at least 3/4 of them) that's not on any of their albums I recommend listening to "The Witness" written by Adam Jones (Tool's guitarist). It's actually a promo song/video for Gibson and it's pretty good.

I got to see them perform this last Friday. They were amazing live! Gotta say though, as much as I enjoy their music, their overall sound kinda wore on me after a while 😂 I tend to listen to them when I'm doing something else (driving mostly) so it was a different experience just focusing on them and the music.

The main triplet riff is played on the A and D string on the guitar. The hammer on triplet is 0-10-12 on the A, then 10-9-12 on the middle D string with an open A note in between the 10, 9 & 12 on the D.

It’s nothing crazy, but it’s such a great song. I love how they repeat and Danny just takes it away. The song is so angry and so positive at the same time too.
