Abolishing the idea of "good" and "bad"! That's a version of black and white thinking which is a cognitive distortion. Some of us do it more often than others. Kudos, Judson, for trying to move away from that type of thinking. It's not easy (I'm still working on it myself), but you got this!

Danny Carrey is probably the only drummer I can never follow on drums. But goddamn can he drum. Always a treat to listen to but frustrating to imitate. I see schism like Judson, infact you can find the phrase "finding beauty in the dissonance" in lyrics, and even the song structure seem to rapresent the pieces fall apart and the dissonance in terms of musicality.

okay , that make sense. I drink, but only on social bases, never had a problem with it. At home I don;t drink a drop, unless friends are coming over. I Find alcohol healthy for the mind. It takes away your edge, you more relaxed, having fun and being social. I need this social behaviour, it's in our genes, we have been doing this for thousands of years, it's a human thing to do so. Yes! The lyrics during that meditative, airy part you like are “cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion” so I also interpret it as communication being a key to keeping that atrophy from happening.

I love your reactions, guys! I discovered your channel recently and I like your vibe. Piano intro and smooth transition to heavy stuff. It's nice to see that after the reactions to ,e.g., Nightwish's songs, a cover was made. This means that newly discovered music hits you just right. I'm courius what you would say about something different, like a combination of japanese idols and metal. Let's say: Babymetal - Road of Resistance. It may be a little weird, but that's part of the fun 😃

On the subject of prog metal bands doing really laid back, meditative versions of their music -- The Contortionist have done this. They have this album "Language", which they reworked into "Language (Rediscovered)" back in 2015. Really cool stuff.

Great reaction guys (as always). Schism is one of Tool's top ten songs for me personally. If you'd like to hear something meditative/psychedelic from Tool (or at least 3/4 of them) that's not on any of their albums I recommend listening to "The Witness" written by Adam Jones (Tool's guitarist). It's actually a promo song/video for Gibson and it's pretty good.

When I saw TOOL in 2019, I never stopped jumping. They played Schism, Aenima, 46&2, etc. But when I saw them in 2021, it was totally different. More of their meditative stuff. A lot of us stayed seated, eyes closed. It was more of a sonic experience.

The main triplet riff is played on the A and D string on the guitar. The hammer on triplet is 0-10-12 on the A, then 10-9-12 on the middle D string with an open A note in between the 10, 9 & 12 on the D.

Playing being his back lol. Judson, I hope you enjoy Tool. If not, it’s all good. It’s just so fun and so great personally. The Patient is my favorite from Lateralus. It’s nothing crazy, but it’s such a great song. I love how they repeat and Danny just takes it away. The song is so angry and so positive at the same time too. It’s worth a listen even if you don’t film it.

The base riff of your average Tool song is not difficult but the layers and variance adds so much richness and complexity.

The main riff of this song isn't difficult in and of itself, but getting the articulation of the triplet hammer-ons right and consistent can be a bit tricky.

I contiue to be surprised that he doesn't stop the song to go on about the unique time signatures tool uses, and instead is listening for the lyrical message. Seems so unique in reactions done by other musicians.

Disposition by Tool is a song I use for meditation a lot. But I agree I would love if Tool put out a complete meditation album.

Rusted Roots drummer did an album of meditative ensembles. TOOL should do the same, I agree.

I got to see them perform this last Friday. They were amazing live! Gotta say though, as much as I enjoy their music, their overall sound kinda wore on me after a while 😂 I tend to listen to them when I'm doing something else (driving mostly) so it was a different experience just focusing on them and the music.
