Kangaroo done hung the jury is referencing a kangaroo court where the verdict is pre-determined. You nailed it with your thoughts about the song being about hypocrites. It's a reference to the drug culture in the US. Judges and lawyers sending people to prison for drugs when we all know that they are some of the worst people for taking drugs

You all analyzed this song beautifully. Well done. I'll add that "Weeping shades of cozen indigo" refers to the pot being called out or punished for their hypocrisy and crying fake tears (cozen means deceitful and indigo is blue). "Got lemon juice up in your eye" because the pot had to squirt lemon juice in their eye to make themselves cry. They feel no real remorse for their hypocrisy. The kangaroo (liar), the lawyer, and the pot (mirror), were all just as guilty (stoned) as the kettle they were judging the whole time, but they were getting away with it by working together to hide their wrongdoings. They had a system to rob the grave (dig up the past) and burn the evidence in order to snow the cradle (fool the future); but they've done it so many times now that they're deep up to their eyes in dirt, so deep that they could practically raise the dead. Their weaknesses are starting to show and the one being harshly and unfairly judged (the kettle that got pissed on) sees this, so the kettle decides to fight back, calling them all out on their bullshit and exposing the fact that they're all just as guilty, if not more, and were rigging their own trials while sentencing innocent people to harsh punishment (hanging the juror with the innocent). The kettle is telling us that the whole group is fraudulent; they operate within a rigged system (their soapbox house of cards and glass) that's set up to protect them while they judge and punish (throw their stones at) everyone else for the same thing they're guilty of.

First thing you need to know about Tool is that the fans can be overzealous at times…like almost all the time. The next thing is that their music is fun and interesting. Should you wish to, and most fans will say you should, you can dive deep into their lyrics and musicianship and find new and crazy things. The lyrics have multiple meanings in some cases (not unlike other artists) and what the instruments often do in the song are amazing. The biggest thing you need to know about Tool is that you need to be ready for it. I’m a fan and have been since they came out with their first album and it was the talk of the school that somebody that graduated from here became a big celebrity. However, even I had to listen to their songs a few times before I could say I liked them.

I've seen a few of your reactions. Every time I see a similar pattern. Brad keeps stopping the song to think about the lyrics, because he's really focused on the meanings. As a guitarist and a long time fan of Tool and the particular song,i have to say this,Lex you are ABSOLUTELY right about the guitar(they are KILLING IT).The drummer(Danny Carey) is also incredible by the way.
@belphag0r3 жыл бұрын
Danny Carey's drums on this track never fail to mesmerize me. The beat is constantly changing and flowing into something new. Your brain never gets a chance to settle into complacence.

Lex will probably change her mind about complicated guitars and simple drums after watching the drum cam live of "Pneuma" from Tool... enjoy, friends ! ^^

That is what TOOL is best for, allowing multiple different viewpoints and everybody is both wrong and right.

Love that you got into Tool, once you start dissecting their lyrics and understanding how they write their music your mind will be blown. They even wrote a song based on the Fibonacci sequence.

@iceman101293 жыл бұрын
They have their own style, but they aren't their own genre. They are very much alternative metal or progressive. Primus is much more of a group that are a better example of their own genre.

There are only four guys in the band. And just about every song they have they can play live, so no special effects from the studio. By far the best band to see and hear live!

Once you really love and appreciate music as a whole, you understand how much skill went into making this song. The instruments are over the top. This drummer is one of the best. There's no basic pattern. Raw true skills

It's always amazing to watch someone listen to Tool for the first time and try to piece together their songs without any context. There are so many layers to a Tool song, both musically and lyrically.

Don't get lost in the lyrical meaning as that stuff is still debated decades after its release. Take in the music for what it is. Cheers
@robrich69883 жыл бұрын
Lyrical meaning is very important to people that listen to music instead of just hearing it!!!
@biggary96023 жыл бұрын
@@robrich6988 No one said lyrical meaning wasn't important. Simply a suggestion to hear the music for what it is before you crack open books and start dissecting the lyrics. But you do you.
