As much as I LOVE tool and LOOOOVE third eye ive never gotten why they would use it to open a show. It's such a natural final song for a set. There is a reason why it closes it Aenima. It's a punctuation mark. It's like 'there is nothing better we can play than this". I've heard them play Third Eye live once and while it was INCREDIBLE it was in the middle of the set and they closed with Stinkfist. Just a bit odd of a flow.

I remember way back in Junior High. There was this Spanish foreign exchange student that always sat next to me on the bus. I usually took my walkman to school to listen to on the long bus ride home. Think for yourself Question authority Think for yourself Question authority Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness; chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself. Think for yourself. Question authority. Think for yourself Question authority Dreaming of that face again. It's bright and blue and shimmering. Grinning wide And comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes. This is the absolute pinnacle of musical perfection. Content and execution epitomize excellence, elucidating elements of electrical endorphin-driven ecstasy. I am undone.

The third eye is another name for the pineal gland, which is a part of the brain. Not much is known about it, but it's a fact that it contains DMT, also known as the strongest psychedelic in the world, that can also be found in plants and some animals. Smoking DMT will launch you into new dimensions, new experiences. To pry open our third eye could mean that we could finaly set our mind free of our bodily restrictions. This, of course, is just a theory of what the song could be about, but i like

cptZeppos good analyzing, i can relate, i know DMT is released when you sleep "for dreaming" and also when you PhySIcally pass. there IS Alot more to it than what Most of the "modern population" can, or is willing, or could understand....Observe, analyze, feel, understand and try not too Blink. Positive Information pass the subthreshold of conciousness.

This song makes me feel terrified, its awesome. I never used to feel that way when I listened to Tool, but as amphetamine slowly ate away my mind, I began over-analyzing everything, and now, I am so scared I could shit myself

Tip, from someone who has broken through before. You control what you perceive as reality. You change your own perspective lenses. No one is looking for you, spying on you or trying to hurt you. Enjoy your awakened mind as it is open to change if you allow it. Hope this helps. 👌

The beginning of this song has shaped me a lot growing up. My dad played this a lot in car rides when I was very young and its stuck with me ever since. I'm thinking of this song a lot recently because I'm in government class now.

Imagine you are singing the song about yourself... so good to see you once again I thought that you were hiding from me you thought that I had to run away chasing the tail of Dogma. One of the most intense songs, one of the most psychedelic songs of all time and there's so much deep implications of healing that it's hard to put into words

The transition between the beginning section and the band going full in sounds less like the intro a song and more like something coming to life and seeing light for the first time. The most aural imagery to a third eye if there ever was one.

Maybe I'm losing it but I often get the impression that Tool is a darker, edgier, and more modern version of Pink Floyd. Maybe it's because the songs of both of these artists feel more like a ride than a song and they're both some of the greatest musicians of the past 50 years as far as I'm concerned.

Takes on a different meaning when sober. Being stoned or drunk constantly is a crutch as much as any religious or educational control grid. But weed has been mainstreamed and it's one thing most people will not let go of. It's not just a tune about getting baked. But the layers to this will be lost on most people who can't see beyond their bong.
