The record label wanted Tool to have a "Heavier" song and make it a single for the radio. They recorded this last minute as a big middle finger to the lable. Yea we'll give you what you want, but it's gonna be heavier than you wanted and gonna have a long, drawn out middle part. Nothing kills radio time like an 8 mintue song lol

Adam Jones is the guitarist. He’s not your typical speed demon solo artist, he’s more into creating odd sounds by pulling strings, feed back, and letting his guitar vibrate freely. I really don’t think I’d be a Tool fan if not for him, given that I’m not into the common speed rules over everything when it comes to most guitarists. Fun fact...Tom Morello & Adam Jones grew up together in a suburb of Chicago. Morello’s mom was also Adam’s home room teacher. Thank you kindly for the Tool reactions mate!

I think the story behind this track is that the record label forced them to do a heavier song to include on their album, and they made this, hence the lyrics (this is what you wanted, this is what you are getting, I hope you choke on this... etc.) By the way the new album was uploaded to youtube yesterday by the bands official channel, at least in the US, check out 7empest if you want to hear the guitarist Adam Jones going berserk, my favorites so far has been invincible and culling voices.

Im loving what you're doing man, watching you discovering Tool, it's like I'm learning them all over again. In my opinion, Lateralus was such an incredible album because they'd been there before- they knew what they could do.
