The album title 10000 Days is a reference to roughly how long Maynard's mom lived after she became paralyzed. The songs Wings For Marie/10000 Days are about him dealing with her passing.

Just missed the premiere. One of my absolute favorite tool songs. So, vicarious is about someone who is obsessed with living through others, especially through TV. "Vicaroiusly I live while the whole world dies." The narrator knows their problem. They are addicted and have come to terms with it, much like most people who are media fanatics

This is one of their more straightforward songs, both lyrically and in composition. Losing the rhythm is par for the course on a first listen of most Tool songs, so we're all on the same page there, just sit back and enjoy the ride :)

Hey Chels... the more you listen to Tool... the more you hear and the better it gets. Every time I listen to them I pick out more nuances that I missed previously. Their music is like Maynards wine that he grows... it grows in a harsh and unforgiving climate but the fruits become an amazing elixir that conjures deep thought and emotions. Some songs need to be played as a pair and even a Triplett (Disposition, Reflection, Triad) to get the whole experience so prepare to ask the TooL army for a little guidance on your journey. Keep spiraling out and enjoy the ride.

To be completely honest, I feel like I'm such a person at times. It feels like I'm watching a live action movie, where the character does something that thrills me or pulls my attention, in extreme cases does something I wish I could do, but would never. It's literally like living through other people's experiences. Something like Instagram, but from another point of view. I've definitely been there. In German we have something called "Schadenfreude" which puts it kind of in a good perspective. Someone who experiences Schadenfreude gets his joy from other people's suffering or misfortune. That's basically what it means.

My interpretation of this song is about people's need to see violence in their media. Never giving pause unless some person died or is harmed. You could use the "can't look away from a car crash analogy". This has basically fueled all news organizations to show increasingly sensationalized stories to keep people's attention. This song came out in 2006 and was also commenting on how Americans could see the Iraq war on their TVs. People were basically glued to the TV watching as cities were being bombed in Iraq. If you could watch literal death on your television, news organizations need to sensationalize everything to make it as interesting.

I remember someone once saying that another theory of this song is that it's actually God talking. "While the mother holds her child and watches him die. Hands to the sky crying why oh why???" And then God responds "Cause I need to watch things die!" An interesting part of the song for sure.
