Excellent video. Just ordered my parts to reseal my 3 1/2 ton craftsman (950145). It only jacks up without a load. I'll post another comment here to let people know my results for anyone else that may come along with the similar problem. You've helped out a lot of people. I hope that HCRCnow took care of you for sending them the business. There's a link to this video on their website. Nice car btw. Thanks again Froggy. 🐸

Froggy, you are an absolute lifesaver. I have a 30-year-old Sears floor jack that I have used over and over and over again. I had given up on trying to fix it, and then I saw your post. Normally there is a warning sign to not mess with this screw head and a plastic cap covering it. This screw head controls a ball bearing and a spring that regulates the max lifting capacity of the jack.
@1947froggy20 күн бұрын
True & it's probably a calibrated spring, but in a rebuild you can disassemble, just put it back the same.

That doesn't look like a 30-year-old jack. The Craftsman jacks from 30 years ago were made in Tawain and before that they were made in Japan. The one in video is from the 2000's. Probably around 20 years old.

Bought a seal kit from Lazzar for a Craftsman 3 ton extra high lift jack model 950143. When I opened up the jack fluid reservoir there was a little "tubular" screen in with the fluid. Any ideas what it is or where it goes? I have a picture but not sure how to include it in a comment.

It should be just to keep debris from entering when topping off, not critical. Should just sit at the opening. Might even be just a "push fit"

My Pro lift model # G-2593 3 ton jack raises up fine, but won't hold a load. Do you think it needs a total main cylinder rebuild, or just one of the easier to replace o rings. I already tried adding oil and bleeding it. It does seem to leak fluid out of somewhere, but not on top.

Great video, I have the 50239 jack which is similar, would the seal replacement fix an issue where the jack does not lift the car without more than the normal amount of pumps? The fluid level is fine but the jack does not work like it did originally. A couple of pumps to get to the jack point, then several pumps to lift the car. Now it is multiple to get to the jackpoint, then alot to lift the car. Thanks

Thanks for the video. When putting it back together, did you use a torque wrench? If so, what what ft. lbs. was used?
@1947froggy3 жыл бұрын
Good question, no I did not. These fasteners are not like, say, head bolts or lug nuts. There is really not much tension or torque on them trying to take them apart. The hydraulic pressure is held by the orings. So just tighten then up good, hard as you can on the big ones. Thanks!

Craftsman branded tools used to be better, this one is almost 30 years old & used a lot, so a small leak (fixable) is ok by me. BTW the kit worked fine, no leak since I posted the video. Better than my Harbor Freight jack, but the HF did not cost 1/2 the price of the Craftsman.

You should have taken some measurements on that o-ring that was causing the external leak - most likely a standard size. If the only thing wrong is a little external leak, that o-ring could be purchased for less than a dollar at a hardware store to fix your jack.

@@1947froggy I just repaired mine this morning, and my leak happened to be coming from the stem of the bleeder valve (part that has the u-joint). The o-ring size for that is AS568-011. Good as new and cost next to nothing. If you are cheap like me, it makes sense to disassemble and find out exactly what is leaking b4 paying $35 + shipping for a seal kit that you really only need one o-ring out of for repairing the problem. If I ever need to disassemble the ram, I will be happy to publish the o-ring size for the rod and also the piston cup seal (the P/N should be printed directly on the seal itself, and if not, a few measurements will find the correct size). Great discussion!

@@Resist4 IMO the quality of the seals and the machining of the bore/seat that the seal touches has declined over years, you know the "throwaway" mentality. You have to be pretty determined to fix stuff these days, things are not built to take apart & be fixed.

Don't mess with those, they control how much weight the jack will lift hydraulically but you can over stress the frame etc. You need to rebuilt where the handle turns the screw that controls bypass fluid. Too complicated to explain here. :)
