Tools from Trash Part One: Forging a Hammer Eye Punch and Drift from Railroad Spikes

Part one of two in a short series about making tools from not-so-choice stock. In this part, I make a small hammer eye punch and drift from railroad spikes and scrap stock in preparation of part two, which will be released on 11/9/21 (Edit: 11/10/21... Audio files said no sync. Currently fixing).

P.S. Thank you everyone that's patiently waited for this second video! My fixer upper house and shop renovation has taken one heck of a toll on my time, energy, and finances, but I'm happy to finally be able to upload again, and hope this trend will continue with more regularity than I've had in the past 10 months.

Those close-ups where you can really see what each strike does are fascinating. Also the captions are very nice, some Primitive Technology vibes at certain points and other points remind me of Alvin Zhou, but they're still distinct enough from both to be recognized as your captioning P.S. I really like mine, in all honesty! It's a great, tough anvil that's comfortable to work on and stands up to abuse; however, it's also *very* expensive, and the only thing that made it worth it to me was the free shipping with pre-order. I wouldn't pay $10/lb for an anvil otherwise. If you're looking into getting a brand new anvil, I'd personally recommend the Atlas Knife & Tool Graham or Atlas anvil (linked below). I know the owner of the company, and he's a great guy. The Graham is pretty much everything you'll need from any anvil, and its hefty waist means it strikes like an anvil that's much larger. Same with the Atlas, which is specific for knife making, getting rid of unnecessary features otherwise common on anvils, so very affordable, and at 65lbs, strikes about the same as my 140lb Steele anvil (which really, is a fantastic anvil- but you pay premium for Alec's name). If you really love Alec and have a bunch of money burning a hole in your pocket, the Steele anvil is a great tool. If you're not dead set on it, go Atlas. One idea I saw on another channel was a voiceover after the fact, but personally, I find this much more pleasant to just hear the sounds of your work, and read the captions.
