Technically you don’t have to drain a Toyota filter before removing it (say if the drain is seized because nobody has undone it the last several times) but if you skip the drain, then as soon as you remove the filter, ALL the oil in there comes out at once. Really fun on the V8 engines with the housings over twice the size of the Corolla/Prius one shown in the video.

Have you seen newer vw and Audi cars with the plastic oil pan and drain plug, need special tool to turn drainplug only 1/4 turn and it comes out 😱

Surely, a governing body could have asked for the manufacturing component data to build a trend analysis. With that trend analysis, the industry could have made a standard. All these different components should have been homogenised for best practice and best results. Could have phased out the madness by now.
