Definitely interested in the Badlands ammo in gel. I'd like to see both the 77gr and 85gr out of a SBR length barrel and a 16" barrel to understand what we can expect to see with terminal performance. Of course, seeing the velocity and SD would be nice, too. Not sure what barrel lengths you have on hand, but it'd be nice to see what it does across a spectrum of lengths.

A few years companies started moving away from large pistol primers. I’ve probably got a couple thousand cases and I’d say 10% are small primers. You’re seeing the same thing beginning in 308. A small primer works just as well and is cheaper than a large one and the case is stronger for people that overload 308

Heavy 230 grain GoldDot formulated for short barrels… That sounds at odds with proper expansion. The 200 grainers make way more sense on paper. This will be an interesting one

The buffalo bore 10mm you like is an XTP but Buffalo Bore is loading their +p 180 grain 40s&w with gold dots. I've got several boxes, so you'd think they'd load 10mm with same bullet but who knows. That 2A 9mm is an xtreme x-def for sure.

I just got 3 boxes of Buffalo Bore 180gr from MidwayUSA. 1 box with Gold Dots and 2 boxes with Hornady XTPs. I emailed Buf Bore and Tim replied those are the only two bullets they've ever used in that load. Love the vids!!!

Dang, Gold Dots right off the bat. I have the standard loading of 230 but been lookin for short barrel at my shop. Want to try em in my H&K USP Compact 45.

One more thing I’ll mention about that 8mm mauser ammo, you’re correct in your assessment of the federal power shok 8mm being weak. American companies that make it, use with 170 grain projectiles that really only top out maybe at 2100 fps, not much more horsepower than a .30-30. I’ve tested that exact round before and my chrono confirmed that velocity (2000-2100 fps)…Both the PPU & S+B should be a bit hotter than that even with slightly heavier projectiles. For what it’s worth too, I do some handloading for 8mm Mauser, I typically use 170 grain Speer Hot-Cor bullets and I can get them going to 2500-2700 fps with ease. Compare that 170 to the 170 grain federals and it’s obvious that federal is loading them light.

Nice haul! Have the XTP's in 38,357,and 44 love em. Never done gel test with em,but they shoot well and are hot. Put a wounded Black bear down with the 44 1 shot. When you gonna shoot that 45/70 load ?😅 Good on ya 😉

Thats a good lil haul there Tools. Definitely will be interested in seeing how some of that stuff does. Maybe if possible you could sneak those 55gr Hornady soft points you got awhile ago in with all that other stuff and see how they do? Been wanting and waiting on that test for a bit. I know your a busy man, but seems like a good time to mention it to you. And i hope you keep doing the Wednesday uploads, like i mentioned before to you its important to do what you enjoy too Tools and i dare say your real and true viewers enjoy the collection displays, imo.

Berry's lists fairly low velocity ranges for their hybrid hollow points in .355 diameter.

Have a feeling you got a Zastava M76 or some post war Yugo Mauser. That S&B is a Soft Point Cutting Edge. That shoulder is supposedly to cleanly cut as it goes thru. 8x57 is a rather stout

Yes! Gold dot 230 45acp. Very curious. Going to need a faster twist rate on the 556 77gr, 75gr and 85gr. At least from my experiences. I like 1/7 twist but 1/8 should work. Really looking to all of this!!!!

The Hornady 75gr BTHP is a good performing projectile with enough velocity.... about 2" neck, yaws, and frags heavily... very similar to the 77gr SMK used in the Army's MK262. The real problem with the Hornady 75 is accuracy, as its quite a bit more finiky in most barrels than 77 SMK.

If you're looking for some hotter Makarov loadings try and see if you can find a box of the FMJ flatpoint loads designed to be used in Stechkins and smgs. I tried a mag full of that stuff out of a little Hungarian RK-59, and you knew when you touched one of those off that you were firing some +P pressure loads.

I'm glad you got .45 gold dots because thats what i carry. But i would like to know about the 185 grain gold dots in a glock 30 or similar sized barrel for 45. I wonder if its a lot more snappy or not. I didnt shoot em yet. I had 230 grain federal punch because i was panic buying right after the pandemic stuff lifted and ammo was coming back. Gpld dots werent on the shelf but punch was. But i like gold dots best and trust em more. I went with 185 to hopefully get it to mushroom bettee for short barrels

S&B 8x57 IS is pretty affordable (at least in Germany). BUT if you plan on reloading the brass do not expect too much. The casings are pretty hard to calibrate, the primer pocket is tight and they will probably not make more than 1 or 2 reload cycles. More than half of my brass got ripped apart at the bottom. PPU brass with the same parameters did not behave that way. So if you consider reloading think about not using S&B brass. Regards from Germany

Not my thing. That's why I don't even buy stuff like this. Makes no difference to me if I shoot 1 inch or 5 inch groups from an AR. That's still well within what that tool is meant for.

Good haul, your lucky you don't live in Commiefornia. Starting July 1st the 11% tax on guns and ammo goes into effect. I heard that once it goes into effect they are going to file a lawsuit against it, so we'll see. I load my own so I rarely buy any factory ammo except 22lr but I stocked up after the last ammo shortage and panic buying. Yall have a great weekend.

Would be really interesting to see the performance of 55 gr & 62 gr 5.56mm NATO vs the heavy 77 gr & 85 gr. However I might suspect the true potentional of those heavy 5.56 round would be quite hard to unleash as an up to 300 yards range gel test might be required---- Will a fast, light weight bullet still works as a lead strom in torso target at longer range? Or would a heavier bullet with a slower speed get things folded in both close range combat and 200+ yards shooting? Anyway, looking forward to your following tests.XD

45 acp goes either way with primers. It seems the trend was toward small primers a few years ago. Don't know if the trend continues.

There used to be a bullet that some boutique companies used called the Montana Gold that looked almost identical to the Gold Dot. I think Buffalo Bore actually loaded it at one time.
