Seeing the 16" nearly explode as soon as it hits the gel makes me warm and fuzzy. Since I'm looking around for another home defense style round, that's the one I'd pick. The more fragmentation I see, the more effective I feel it is to stop a threat.

Timely testing! It would be cool to also see the 10.5" test on the 62gr and 75gr. My bet is the 75gr would be the best from a short barrel.

I think the 75 grain is best from every barrel be it a 7.5” all the way up to 16”… 55 lacks penetration, 62 has decent performance.

That 16” entry explosion is amazing. Nice difference in the barrel lengths to show the impact points. That 16” would be a huge cavity in the wound channel 👍. Awesome test. Again good shot placement. That very consistent end result though. By the way the T-Shirt your wearing is spot on. Lol 😂. Good stuff. Be safe. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The 16” resembles some of the best rounds of its kind. See Hornady TAP T2. The T2 has a longer cavity, but for the money and stocking up, this will do quite nice. I would have no issues using it in the 10.5 or 16” for self defense. If I’m past 100 yards I’ll take the 75 grain Saber if that’s what if I have a choice. But inside the house this 55 grain is gonna mess things up big time. Nice job AAC! Very nice

These have very similar performance to PMC Bronze 55 grain soft points, but for a lower price and from an American company. Definitely not premium, but that's really pretty nice for varmint, medium game, or simian predators. I am fairly impressed with Palmetto State Armory's offerings based on your tests and Buffman R.A.N.G.E.'s tests, but when it comes to .223/5.56 I think fragmentation from such a light round is detrimental to performance. Love the video. Thanks for all the time and effort!. Any chance you could do the 62gr and 75gr Sabre Blade out of your 10.5 “ barrel? This would give some data on slower velocities than the 16” barrel you did in your test of those grains. I’m hoping they would fragment a little less from the shorter barrel. It would also give us some data on minimal velocities for fragmentation/expansion from those heavier bullets.

Many thanks for the information and review of this particular cartridge load. I was interested in the projectile itself. And I do see your point that its comprable to the VMax. I've not bought factory ammo in decades, as I load all my ammo. I have a very basic iron sighted 16" AR15, and I don't shoot it much. I mainly have it for load testing. My nephew is learning to reload, and I've built up loads for him in the past. I actually prefer pistol caliber leverguns. That said, I'd loaded some 60gr VMax in 5.56 for myself, and my nephew. We've had unbelievable results with that bullet on coyotes and wild dogs. It's brutally effective! Thanks again for all the time, energy, and expense to bring real world tests on weapons and ammo.👍

I like projectiles to stay together as well if I had a choice. But something I’ve been asking myself when judging “good performance or not” is this question. “Would I want to get hit by it?” I think we could all answer that as, definitely not! Heck, I wouldn’t even want to get hit with a .22lr. So maybe that’s not the question to ask really. 🤷🏼‍♂️
@ToolsandTargets
@ToolsandTargets Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I don't wanna get hit by any bullet.😆
@joshdiehl8737
@joshdiehl8737 5 ай бұрын
This is exactly how I think. However I think you could probably or at worst maybe survive a .22lr HP to center mass. Obviously depends where it hits. This bullet however dumped like 1100 ft lbs of energy and a few inches in exploded 6 inch from center in every direction. I think the chances anyone survives that shot center mass anywhere is basically zero.

I shot water jugs at 15-20 yards with 45, 55, and 62 gr. projectiles! The 55 and 62 were FMJ, the 45 was a hollow point. The 45 gr. made the biggest mess! That was surprising to me! I really didn't think it would make the difference it did! Really cool to see results in the gel!

Hmmm….The other 2 appeared closer to SST type performance…but this one was in fact closer to V-max…. Im thinking these are just rebranded V-Max projectiles…and the difference in performance is probably more related to the synthetic gel than any design changes. Shame Hornady doesn’t make an SST for AAC…that would strike a good balance of fragmentation while still maintaining enough mass for penetration. In this case, I believe the synthetic gel is allowing for deeper penetration than typically seen in ordnance gel.

@@therichie9916you do realize that that whole ballistic gel penetration crap is for handguns right? You have 30 rounds of 556, are you really going to only shoot one time? The 22 long rifle has killed more people than any other round in the world and it only penetrates 3in into ballistic gel

This stuff did NOT want to give velocities past 28 yards. Kind of a shame. Oh, well. At 28 yards, the 10.5" barrel gave us an average velocity of 2664 for an average kinetic energy of 866 energy foot pounds. We did get 4 velocities at 50 yards for an average of 2592 fps and 820 energy foot pounds. And at 75 yards, we only got one reading, which was 2534 feet per second, resulting in 784 energy foot pounds. The 16" barrel gave us an average V28 of 2977 fps for an average Ke28 of 1082 energy foot pounds, which is pretty respectable. It was a lot more finicky about giving 50 and 75-yard velocities. We only got 2 readings at 50 yards for an average of 2880 feet per second and 1013 energy foot pounds. And we again only got one reading at 75 yards. That reading was 2795 feet per second, making 954 energy foot pounds.

10.5 did well, very impressive performance for a 55 grain tipped round. Would be very interesting to see the performance from the 62 and the 75 grain from a 10.5”. Somehow there is not a single gel test for the 60 grain vmax from a 10.5” on all of KZbin.. I suspect those heavier rounds would retain more weight and penetrate deeper out of a 10.5 due to the reduced impact velocity.

They should work well for city dwellers that need less penetration. Due to neighbor’s and home defense. We had a 60gr hornady tap urban tactical with a red tip. For our 1/12 barreled guns. We now have changed them all to 1/7 twist and have 75gr Tap for them.

20” would be great to test it out of use the Retro even tho it’s 1/12 stabilization will not be the best but we can still see the speed and gel test! A 1/7 twist 20” .556 would be nice 👍

@@ToolsandTargets the 20” .223wylde upper would be nice for accuracy testing and if you have a 1/7 twist 20” .556NATO upper that would be great for speed! I think those 20” rifle gassed .556NATO uppers are great for squeezing out all of the velocity from a cartridge, even heavier ones if they are 1/7 twist and is also a good baseline for viewers! Would be great for collecting data and for the ballistic gel blocks letting us see how much .223/.556 rounds benefit from speed! I know it would be a lot of work but it would be nice to see a 12”/16”/20” with the same ammo✅

Great test results Tools. I'd be happy with these rounds for sure. Like you mentioned I'd like to see how these perform through a hard barrier, such as a door or drywall. The energy transfer would sure put some hurt on the bad guy.. Either way I don't want to be on the receiving end of these rounds. Be vigilant and always be safe my friend.

I bought the saber blade 300 blackout in 110 and 125 grain. From reading the description you would think it was a super expanding projectile. They say nothing about any of those rounds being frangible . I was hoping it might make a decent hunting round because the saber blade line in general has slightly better speeds on the box. I wouldn’t hunt with these for nothing. You would be digging shrapnel out of ur teeth trying to eat ur game. Kinda disappointing really. I’m glad my old buddy tested this stuff for me. I’m taking it for granted that the 300 is gonna perform the same as these 5.56. I’m sure these would be solid in a home defense setting. Like always great video. Without a doubt the best on KZbin!

Totally agree. I expected exactly the opposite of this based on the description on their website. The 110 .300 blk video should be posted Sunday but yeah, basically the same with a bit less fragmentation.😆

Wow! I would have confidently (and foolishly!) bet $200 we wouldn't have seen 2500fps out of that 10.5" barrel. I am delightfully surprised at how spicy 5.56 *still* is out of such a short barrel! That having been said, given the substantial difference in wound tracks between the 10.5" and 16", I'd love to see these rounds fired into the gelatin out of a full sized 20" platform.

Most .223 loads are around 2550 out of a 10.3. This ammo closer to m193 spec getting over 2700 from 10.5 and over 3000 from a 16”.
