The concept of the song is about drug adiction, the master is the drug because it controls you and makes you wish more of it, that is why the “taste me you will see, more is all you need, dedicated to how I’m killing you” and “come crawling faster” lines for example. The other thing is that the song starts rough and hard, this is making reference of the desperation of drug addiction when you will do whatever to get the drug. But later the song gets smooth and melodic making reference to that state when you finally get the drug and consume it so you get high, and finally it gets rough again because the effect is gone and you are back again in that desperation state. Im sorry about my english I tried my best! Keep it up and metallica is such a great band react more to it, enter sandman is a good one!!

This song is even better when you realize that the entire song structure is the process of drug addiction. First/ second verse and chorus. = The search for the drug Interlude= the high after taking it Breakdown/bridge = the after effects of the high and coming back down to normal and the hell that happens inside you after it. Final verse/chorus = the cycle repeats. It blends lyrics with song structure so perfectly. It's genius.

"Crack" cocaine and heroin (pressed into pill form) are the drugs of choice among people today. Powder cocaine was a very big problem in the 1970s and 1980s. "Crack" cocaine exploded in popularity in the early-1990s , because it caused an intense high when smoked, but it did not last very long, and was highly addictive (in spite of the cost per dose being lower than powder cocaine).
@@LaptopLarry330 actually crack was first noticed in 85 and was declared an epidemic in 86. The popularity actually declined in the 90s due to laws targeted directly to crack for maximum time for minimal amounts.

Nick Waddle they’re a great band. I will agree, Megadeth is a top tier band as well though. Honestly, I prefer them over Metallica. Took a while to get used to Dave’s voice, but as far as instruments, I def gotta give the win to Megadeth. Slayer just never really did it for me. I do like a few songs and would never try to take away from the guys’ massive level of talent, & they all seem to be genuinely great guys as well, just never really got into em too heavy. But all that said, while I wouldn’t put Metallica at the top of all bands or MOP at the top of all songs ever written, it’s definitely high on the list for me for the level of technicality and the way the lyrics were written. I did have my own battle with drug addiction when I was younger too, though, so maybe I’m a little bit biased on this one.... 🤷🏻♂️

But they had to kick Dave Mustaine out because of his heroin addiction (hence the needle line, cokeheads rarely mainline). Which must’ve been really bad considering the band’s nickname by other bands was Alcoholicca. They were notorious. And Paul’s right about the brother.
@TransportedMan344 жыл бұрын
Frankie K your statement about meth not being around back then is incorrect. Law enforcement began cracking down on meth back in the late 60s/early 70s and as a result it went into deep cover. It was still very much existent, but cocaine and heroin had taken a lot more of the spotlight by the mid 70s. In the past band members have gone on record to say the song’s specifically about cocaine addiction. Speaking as a recovering addict, the lyrics “more is all you need” are referencing the takeaway from doing coke: it only makes you want to do more coke.

The interpretation of Metallica songs you do are interesting and show where your concerns and struggles are in life. Theres so much more to metal than what's experienced on the surface. The list of songs for you to experience to vast and daunting. But it's ok. If you want to take the dive the metal heads are here for you. C'mon girl :) "Chop your breakfast on a mirror" is a dead giveway that it's about drug addiction if the listner havn't figured it out earlier. The drug becomes your master and you're the puppet basically. Appreciate you branching out to new genres and on KZbin hip-hop and metal has been taking over the past year. Especially hip-hop heads reacting to metal and metalheads reacting to hip-hop, an usually the reactor always becomes a fan of the genre. Hip-hop heads tends to appreciate the lyricsism in metal but also the intrumentals you don't see as much in hip-hop meaning the intrumentals coming from instruments played by talented musicians and not from some software. And metalheads also besides the instumentals appreciates good lyrisism and content which is why hip-hop comes more naturally to them. I'm a metalhead and I've come a long way with hip-hop the past year from where I was with it and it all started with when Eminem dropped Kamikaze and everything that happened after so I've been keeping up to date with everything involving Eminem and some others. Always liked him but never dived into his music and the past year hip-hop and Eminem particulary has been my most listened to music and artist :)

But not like drugs and the likes are rare news these days, with all the celebrities destroying their images or build their image around it, artists passing away from overdoses, drug wars and drug related crimes going on like it's ever been, a common problem and subject in most societies. More or less as many have grown up around it as those only read and heard about it but never seen it with their own eyes. And how many movies have we not seen with cocaine/heroine being chopped on tables etc. Just saying the exposure is there so drug references are as easy to catch/connect today as it has been since then. Maybe I'm rambling but yeah. I hold no negativity towards her inability here where she comes from and Metal being such a foreign genre to her an all. I get it. Did anyone realize how the solo in this song starts off sounding soothing and comforting, like the drug’s affects but as it wears off, the tone of the solo speeds up and becomes more aggressive as if the need to get more gets more intense?

As everyone else is saying, the song is about drug addiction, but also you might notice that in the middle of the song during the guitar solo, it's slow and melodic, as that high is soothing you, and calming you, before it starts to get more intense and harsher, as you're crashing from the drugs.

I enjoy getting see someone branching out and appreciating this style of music. I also find it interesting how her world view changes how she interprets it. It really shows how one's perspective changes the understanding of art. Her perspective and interpretation here seems really consistent with her take away from one. Thanks for a great reaction video!

Drugs are the Master, you are the Puppet. I have always loved this song since I was a kid. In the last 10 years I've gone from a homeless and jobless drug addicted bum to a high paying career, a nice truck and my own house. I owe all of my upcomings in life to getting off of drugs. If you don't want to be a puppet to them you need to kill your master. Stop using, sever all ties with other addicts, suffer withdrawals, and seek out nonusers who might want to help you get clean. This song has resonated with me throughout my lifetime but will always remain a favorite among one of the best bands of all time.

If you keep replaying the song and looking at the lyrics it tells a story that the drugs will pull you in no matter what you will do anything for the drugs you will sell your soul. It is a very emotional song How It Takes one's life

Easiest way to not pause at the worst moments is to understand song structure, like the average number of bars before vocals kick in, the length of verses and when to recognize a breakdown, tempo change and solo intros and the solos themselves, it becomes second nature after a few songs. Most thrash bands use the same general structures based on classical baroque techniques made popular by composers like Mozart and Strauss.

This song is about addiction, in this case, drugs.. cocaine to be exact. The first section is written from the perspective of the drug, the user is craving to fill his addiction... during the long instrumental the addict is consuming his drug and getting his high ... after the instrumental he comes down off his high and realizes that the hype of the drug was a lie. He questions the addiction, but then realizes that his addiction killed his dreams and his future. The addiction now rules him. You mentioned control in the beginning of the video, the song is about how addictions control people. The next Metallica song I would recommend is Creeping Death... Tushino Airfield Moscow 1991, From the Monsters of Rock Tour. There were over 1.3 MILLION people at that show. The video of the crowd reaction is breath taking.

It was very common back in the 80's to litterally chop your cocaine dose on a small portable mirror using your credit card in order to make a well-ordered white line to sniff by a rolled up banknote. This song is all about the misery of cocaine addiction

So, just some quick facts: “Chop your breakfast on a mirror” is a direct reference to drug use. The ‘master’ is the drug of choice, the ‘puppet’ is the drug user. The song is about how easily things get switched around, instead of you controlling what you’re taking and doing, it’s the drugs controlling you until the point of death. The lead singer, James Hetfield, mentioned that he didn’t realize until after it was written that it was related to his alcoholism, which he still struggles with to this day and this song came out in ‘86. It was written by all members of the band at the time which included James Hetfield (lead singer and rhythm guitarist), Lars Ulrich (drummer), Kirk Hammet (lead guitarist), and Cliff Burton (bass player, who, unfortunately, died whilst on tour for this album by being thrown out of the tour bus and the bus rolling over him. He was only 24 years old). This song is played more than any other song at Metallica’s concerts and was deemed culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant enough for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the United States Library of Congress in 2016, the first metal recording to do so.

This song pairs super well with Halo on Fire. This, to me, is about addiction at a time they were all experiencing some form of it whereas Halo on Fire feels like a more reflective look back and warning for all about the traps of addiction.

Metallica used to have a nickname Alcoholica because of their addiction to alcohol. I always took this song as being about addiction itself though rather then any specific drug. The way the craving for whatever your drug is (alcohol, heroin, fame, etc) takes over your life.

'Go to this master to get a voice' Almost had it. I hope you get to see this again as per the descriptions of what the song is about below. And just like the first Metallica video, I love the way her face lights up hearing the guitar solos like hearing music for the first time.

The Metaphoric references are beautifully written. Its an anti- drug song that talks about addiction. The master is the drug and you are the puppet it controls. Its written in 1st person of the drug talking to the addict. How its controlling you. there is no escape. You want more even though its slowly killing you...It also refers to because it controls you, you will die.
