My daughter goes to college at Ohio University in Athens and we have visited the Athens asylum numerous times! You can just feel the sadness and sorrow the minute you drive up to the facility so much so that I couldn’t stop crying at one point!! They were supposed to shoot a movie there recently starring Leonardo DiCaprio but sadly something happened and they couldn’t after all but it’s just such a sad sad place!

The land the Topeka Hospital was on is now a sports park for the schools around the area, and there's still unmarked graves towards the back of it. There was a nurse that was killed in the bathrooms there by a male patient (I've seen the newspaper articles myself, it's legit) after they decided taking a group of criminally insane patients to the movies was a smart idea. I went up there before they knocked down all of the buildings and it was definitely an eerie feeling. Had some crazy experiences when I went with a group of friends another time.

I'm suprised they picked the one they did for Massachusetts. Danvers State would have been my choice. You could see it from the highway and I always thought it was so scary to see driving by when I was young. You could see it in the distance at the top of a hill. Waverly: I mean, after Waverly closed down, it became a nursing home around 10 years later. It officially closed in the 80s or 90s for mistreatment of patients and elderly. Also, the bodies weren't just 'tossed' at the bottom of the chute. The staff was met with train tracks at the end, and the bodies put on train carts to be taken home to their families. If you want to go, go now, because the owners have begun converging it into a hotel.
