Excellent choices as usual. Glad to see you sing the praises of Van's towering masterpiece Into the music. Keep 'em coming Mr Monkey

Your next walk-on should be your Van impression, high kicking to Caravan at the Last Waltz. Even Richie's never pulled that one off, although he once nearly burst through the scenery. An eclectic mix for your last calendar year. Great stuff. Plenty more ducks to shoot at Mal. Looking forward to them.

Hi from what you have showed I think you might like one of my fav albums Illuminations by Buffy Saint Marie
@VinylMonkey58 Жыл бұрын
The only one I have by her is ;Little wheel spin & spin' which is a canny album with the powerful song 'My country, tis of thy people you're dying' on it. I'll look out for Illuminations-Cheers Stephen

OK Let's go. Stiff Little Fingers Inflammable Material (Yes they're Irish but on a Brit label AND one of the 15 greatest punk albums ever) The Stranglers live LP, Sex Pistols Great R&R Swindle, The Rezillos Mission Accomplished But the Beat Goes on live LP, The Undertones debut LP (see Stiff Little Fingers for my feelings on this masterpiece) Joy Division Unknown Pleasures, The outcasts Self Conscious Over You (VERY underrated Irish punk band) Angelic Upstarts Teenage Warning, Buzzcocks A Different Kind of Tension, Penetration Coming Up For Air, Sham 69 Hersham Boys, UK Subs, Another Kind of Blues, The Ruts The Crack (masterpiece by a GREAT band) Gang of Four Entertainment, The Specials debut LP, The Damned Machine Gun Etiquette, PIL Metal Box, The Jam Setting Sons, The Mekons The Quality of Mercy..... The Clash London Calling, Crass Statins of the Crass, Love love love you picked a Linton Kwesi Johnson LP. He is AMAZING and just the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet, judging from a film about him.

Absolutely brilliant list you've got there. I've got some stuff by all you mention, except the Outcasts, Crass and Rezillos (though I did see them back in the day)., though they're for different years or on cd. I also remember seeing Penetration a few times in and around the North East. A few for me to look out for there thanks Willie

@@VinylMonkey58 Great you saw so many of those bands. I guess here in NYC a lot of them never played. That Outcasts LP is terrific, showing you didn't have to play at supersonic speed to make an excellent punk song. Their lyrics are unusual too. Check out the song " School Teacher" Also hear their song Justa Nother Teenage Rebel, not included on the LP and maybe my fav song by them.

Will you not go into the 80s Mal?
@VinylMonkey58 Жыл бұрын
No, I lost the plot around 79, what with the demise of punk and the introduction of 80s style production (I decided it was thin and soulless and not for me). For quite a few years I bought little new music unless it was by my old faves (Dylan,Cohen, Neil Young, Tom Waits , Van etc), thus missing out of course on lots of good stuff. I'll think of some other themes (any suggestions welcome) to hold up a few LPs and sit and ramble on to. Cheers Brendan

@@VinylMonkey58 i think there's a potential video in your reply, you could talk about what you disliked about the 80s, but also highlight some classic albums that you maybe missed out on at the time but have since rediscovered.I know a lot of established artists kind of swerved off the road due to new technology and production techniques, (midi and using a computer being the big change) but amongst that some great albums where still being made, be it a bit differently🙏

Cheers Brendan-thats a good idea for aa little series of videos, but I might have to do a little more collecting first to do it justice

It’s only 13:18 and, so far, it’s not been great. Peg 1. Windy, hazardous, wet (waves) unfishable. Peg 2. Same. Peg 3. First cast followed, immediately, by all-engulfing wave. Drowned. Onlookers highly appreciative. Local lizard population erecting statue to me in gratitude for £6.00 worth of prawns. Back to hotel, stripped off, iPad on. Vinyl monkey sees fit to diagnose that, as I’ve always suspected, I don’t have a heart (now, heartless, talentless and attractive only to ladies of advancing years and failing eyesight) - evidenced by my inability to register anything at all while listening to VM’s number one. Pub.

With you there, no progress in the fate of humanity. The only cultural advance in the last 40 years, the foil no longer sticks to Cadbury's Creme Eggs. And the V-R's walk-ons of course. Only one thing better than V-R's walk-ons, and that's his walk-offs. He is Alfred Hitchcock's successor.

I got rid of almost all my solo Beatles’ albums. I just don’t think they are very good. I rather like the Slits album.
@VinylMonkey58 Жыл бұрын
Cheers Richie. I think John had 3 great solo album, Paul had 1 great (Band on the run) and a few ok, George had 1 masterpiece (All things Music pass) and poor Ringo, not sure why he bothered.
@vinylrichie007 Жыл бұрын
@@VinylMonkey58 The funny thing is that initially Ringo out sold the other three. I think Plastic Ono Band and Imagine by John are his best. McCartney, Ram and Wild Life are my favorites by Paul. I think All Things Must Pass, Living In The Material World and Dark Horse have the biggest percentage of good songs.
