I watched initial D one year ago at the age of 24 for the first time due to "Up to speed" episode of AE86 and from then Ive became obssested about JDM and fast cornering.It amazed me that the racers only put on risk themselves and their cars in addition of Fast and Furious series where they were causing accidents on roads full of traffic and innocent people.

Cyber Formula (not listed in this video) should've been up there in the top 10 in my personal opinion. Not only it had some of the dramatic racing storylines between Hayato, Naoki Shinjiyo, and Kaga, it also served as a premonition of today's automotive technology such as self-driving cars, so did Ex-Driver. Initial D places on the top of the list because it was the most influential anime for street racing in Japan and America alike.

The problem is that the car community is nowhere near as mainstream as it was in the early 2000s, and that's because the early 2000s saw the release of the first Fast and Furious films and the four Black Box Need For Speed titles (Underground, Underground 2, Most Wanted and Carbon. Widely considered as the prime era of Need For Speed by a very ample margin). It's definitely not as popular of a topic to base media off of anymore.

Initial D was kind've revitalized recently, mostly through the memes it spawned, and for some reason, most people can process the easiest. Imo it'll go down in my life as the anime that steered me from being mostly into exotic cars to appreciating the top-of-the-line AE92-110 corolla, civic, etc. offered in our country because that's the closest I'll realistically ever get to a car that can be used in the context of touge, but yeah, racing anime has largely fallen out of favor, always had been a niche genre to get into, because today, is the era of In Another World with Tits and Ass.

I found capeta to be greatly inspirational! It was mainly a tale about a group of people lives. I loved how it breaks down and explain very well each step and sacrifice you need to get through in order to achieve a dream and be excellent in something! Capeta it's just one example related to how to be a great racer but it could be applied to any sort of goal. It shows how you should act behave and the attitude needed to have good work ethic in order to achieve your dream. Little details like 10 years old capeta taking care of himself and being mature washing dishes staying home alone because his only parent did two jobs to keep the lights on and provide him a kart to compete in races. My favorite episode the one about his rival everyday life 5 and a half am wake up Hit the gym Go to school Practice study circuits On weekend go to your sponsors Give details and reports of last race and predictions of next one Walking on streets or while on the bus Zero time waisted Listen to audio lessons of English because when he will be a pro he needs to do good interview and manage properly his communication with the media. I loved this kind of obsession this character had! The mindset of taking care of each damn detail and not even enjoying music on your phone in a 5 minutes drive from place A to place B because you can't waist time while pursuing the dream of being best in the world. So instead you use that 5 minutes to study English because it's user in your vision of the man you want to be! capetas friends! He inspired his boy fella to become a good agent for him to study well so he can help his friend get good deal as a racer. The other one the girl was motivated to work hard and get some money so she may sponsor capeta and to not be less successful than him with her own career. Absolutely not average anime! there was no villain or good vs evil. Just a bunch of people with their goals and own motivation trying to achieve something and their means and effort during their lives paths.

Redline is too underated. When they made that movie, they literally fired the guy from the studio because costs were too big. It took 7 years to make and over 100.000 handmade drawings. It's just so greatly animated, that I wish more people knew about it. It's also very intense. I think I'll actually watch it again. It doesn't have much of a storyline, but it's probably my fav on the list because of the energy it has.

You know what annoys me the most? Its only car people talking about car anime. But never ever ever have i seen an anime youtuber talk about a racing anime. I mean Initial D is a good show and is famous for its eurobeat memes. Capeta is such a beautifull story. Wangan midnight has a special and a slightly dark atmosphere. hands down you are right. I really liked Capeta which is super underrated even among racing anime fans. I can understand that Capeta is not focused on cars entirely is more into drama/slice of life. Although I do think that Initial D is super popular, at least in Japan. There are live action movies and stuff and it's based on a real person I believe. In the show, a guy calls Bunta and talks about how they used to race etc, I think that person was called the Japan's street drift king or something, forgot his name.

Nice outro, brings back ptsd of the landing castle hitting New Orleans. - I know its not technically a racing anime, but You're Under Arrest is definitely deserving of a standing ovation as it helped show what old fashioned animation and extreme car knowledge can be. It used perfectly and beautifully drawn models, such as the Mini ERA 1275 Turbo, and Lancia Delta, paired with top of the line non-cgi animations. Even the Tokyo Police cars and street cars are treated the same. The MC, Miyuki Kobayukawa, has an MG MGBGT that's even done well. For those who know how glorious it is, good to know ya.

Wangan is my favourite anime of all time. I rewatch it once or twice a year. Every story arc is touching, from the photographer in the ferrari to the kid in the supra whos dad used to race, to the guy who gives up on his pregnant wife to race once again, to the man who shuts down his workshop just to chase the devil z, its all awesome.
