Great video as always! I usually don’t have the time to play and vote for these games before the year’s end but fortunately for me, I now have some ideas of what to buy and what to try. Very nice discussion.

A pleasure as always, Paul. I have to check out the new Lacerda and maybe Ezra and Nehemia.

Thanks for this fantastic top 10 list and your detailed discussion about each game. It was a pleasure to watch it during the last days of this year 2024. I didn't know that Inventions is pretty high on your personal list 🙂 all the best frank

I haven't played most of these games yet. I own Andromeda's Edge and Ezra and Nehemiah and those are both great. Thanks for posting your list of favorites. I've heard enough praise for Civolution and Arcs that I think I may have to pick those up.

Daybreak didn't make my 2024 list because it was a top 5 2023 game for me :P SUSD is gaslighting the boardgame community with their end of year list lol.

You won't like Slay the Spire, you'll get addicted. It could even become your favorite 2024 release. It works great solo but it's even better 2-players.

Endeavour deep sea is great. Probably my favourite release of 2024. But I have not played civolution yet, which I got for Christmas.

I can even think playing a solo bg like Frostpunk live or any heavy games, I come back a lot in my solo games. I put a camera to help me see my mistakes when I have a doubt on something. Thanks for sharing.

I tried Arcs once, and I love almost everything, except the fighting which is one of the worst and most random ones in all games I played. I'm not usually into games with combat, but I think all the ones I have played (maybe except Risk? :P ) have better combat mechanisms than Arcs. I know some players don't like the restrictions created by the card draw as well, but I feel like that mechanism is indeed restrictive but clever. But I don't find anything good to say about combat in it.

hope Rogue Angels is a success. I own Burning Suns. That game took forever to deliver. Credit to Emil for his determination to deliver that game - He learnt a lot from delivering Burning Suns. He deserves any success Rogue Angels gets.

OMG Paul!!! I was the guy that started that thread that Andromedas Edge was Dwellings of Eldervale 2.0, and Luke Laurie came into the thread and took me to task. In all fairness I wasn't saying they were the same and it was a cash grab, I never meant it that way. But the differences between these games are very small. However having bought both of them I absolutely stand by my original assessment, there is absolutely no reason to own both Dwellings and AE, and AE is the better game.

Root is in my top 10 of all time and I dislike the one off version of Arcs. I've compared it to the old Revels Deer Hunter advert, I'd rather play a game that I know I'll enjoy rather than a game that I have 75-80% chance of enjoying and 20-25% chance of absolutely hating. But I didn't have the chance to play the campaign mode to give it the best try possible. I'm sure you will enjoy Slay the Spire. It's almost like the design team had you in mind as their target audience because they're giving you almost the same game as the video game, but in board game form, and you will have Rick to block hits for you.

I had my Nemesis:Retaliation pledge refunded. Too many games, and I have enough similar games to not need another one.

Endeavor Deep Sea was my biggest disappointment this year. I liked a lot the original despite the theme and the player conflict. This one should have been a no brainer with the included solo campaign. Except it felt completely flat and I'm not sure why. Maybe because the open information of the first one have been replaced by randomness of the map and the cards.

at the complexity discussion (at endeavor): yes, a 4 for someone can be a 2 for you, but that's why it's an average weight based on all votes. for new games it's purely subjective. for games that are out for some time and have a bunch of votes, it gets more accurate to the average gamer. I'd even go so far and say that bgg ratings are usually a bit lower than what the average gamer would rate it since it's a website that only people know that play a lot (and give a damn about rating themselves)

I own both dwelling and Andromedas Edge but only played Andromedas Edge currently. I own both because my wife is sick of "space" themed games. I just bought both 1 week ago so I will eventually play dwellings. I know some people, who like dwellings more because of the theme. I think combat sucks at Andromedas Edge. The comment maybe you should have just sacreficed 2 ships instead of 3 is not 01:31:50 doing it for me. The combat mechanic is awful, but combat is IMHO not that important. Rest of the game is awesome. Also a bit nitpicking but when you have no worker on the board you can go "everywhere" except combat (without the appropriate ship), but if you have a ship out you can't go to far away from it. This is thematically very strange for me. Seti is plain awesome, but I would weight it more a 3 than a 4. Civolution is my top 5game of all the time
