I discovered Canadian Tire's kitty litter brand in the yellow box "Clumping cat litter" when I ran out of Fresh Step. The value is great at $10.99 a box of 22kg/50lbs & lasts all month. I like to change out the litter completely once a month & add more litter every couple of days with scooping out every day (this is what really controls odours). My kitties likes this noname brand just as much as the big name brands. They're happy & I'm happy 😊 If you are looking for a fine clumping clay that controls odours without putting a dent on the wallet, this Canadian Tire brand will not disappoint.

What is it called. I’m in Canadian tire rn and they have several at this price point. I know the one in Costco is 20 but my kittens don’t like it. I’m using tidy cats at the moment and wanted to buy something cheaper.

Thank you so much for telling me about Ever Clean Extra Strength Unscented! And it's not that expensive right now at Chewy, with the 25 lb box at about $.76 a pound and the 42 lbs at about $.69 a pound. I saw your first video just a week or so ago, during our heatwave. Anyone without central air conditioning knows how bad a litter box can smell. I am very sensitive to perfume smells and they can even bring on a migraine. So when I saw this, I quick ordered some, changed out the box, and have been so impressed with it! I can imagine if I'm this sensitive to smells, how much worse it must be for my Velvet so I hope she is equally happy with this change. Your cats must be saints, willing to try all the new things you bring home to them. My baby hates it if I just move my furniture around. But she is using the new litter with no problem, and the odor control is tremendous. Thank you again, and I like how you present things, and I love this channel.

I’m not a lover of clumping litters, especially for older cats of 15 plus when physically using any litters becomes more difficult. I do like the wood pellets as it’s so easy to remove the faeces then pass it through a garden sieve into a waste bag and it take me, a disabled man, about 5 minutes to do 3 boxes.

Mallory, I’d really like a video dedicated to non clay litter - I’ve tried several different types and have been pretty impressed - I’m not going back to clay ever again! My cats LOVE the corn/cassava type, and yes it tracks but I’ve found that pretty common with any lightweight litter (which is a MUST for me). I’ve had just as good luck with Garfield litter as the Sustainably Yours, and it’s often cheaper! Seems like the same stuff to me.

I wholeheartedly agree, the corn + cassava litter is one of my favorite formulas. I've tried transitioning my cats over to other litters, but they have absolutely no interest in them! I take it that the sand-like texture is really pleasing and soft on their paws. I love that the litter clumps quickly and hard; I usually get no breakage when scooping which helps keep the litter fresh and rarely do I have to do a full litter change, just topping off most of the time. I agree that the scatter is pretty bad with this litter, but I find that a shag rug bath mat works even better than the typical rubber litter mats for this litter. I use Garfield as well, but I just wish it was more available (I've only been able to purchase it on Amazon and it's sold out quite frequently). I'll likely use Sustainably Yours in the future since they share the same manufacturer and it's more available online and in stores, but I just wish the price was as low as Garfield's

I use hardwood rather than pine pellet as my cat litter. That way there's no issues with oil. Hardwood pellets are used as a fuel for heating homes. We are in Australia so have different brands, but generally the same types of litter as you guys. We have 6 cats and occasionally foster so we go through a lot of litter. We have tried so many litters over the years and used clumping clay litter as it was the most economical. The dust and tracking were an issue though and I think the dust exacerbated the asthma of one of our cats. We were recommended soy/tofu litter about 3 years ago and haven’t looked back. It does track but is easily swept or vacuumed and we love that it’s flushable, so we can just grab a poop (with toilet tissue) out of the tray and flush it. We tried corn for a while but didn’t like the smell so went back to the soy.

I am a big fan of World's Best Cat Litter. It's not perfect - I do have to be a bit more diligent than normal with cleanup as it does track a bit. But I love how environmentally-friendly, safe for me and my cat and otherwise EASY it is. It is neutral-smelling and I can very easily get away with changing out the entire thing (dump old litter, wash box and refill) once every two months for one cat. Probably could get away with once every three months but I don't want to push it. I store spare litter in an air-tight container with a scoop. No problems whatsoever with bug or rodent pests like I've read with some. And my cat made the switch from Tidy Cats non-clumping seamlessly.

Every video I've seen that you've included pine pellets in, you opt for shaking the bin. Please, next time you use a sifter bin with pellets, do yourself a favor and give tilting the bin and brushing the pellets around with a litter scoop. Leave the sifter in the litter bins, tilt one end at a time and move the pellets around and I promise, you'll have much less sawdust escaping. I used the same litter boxes from arm and hammer and equine pellets for a few months and it was an eye opening revelation.

Enjoy this list. I find however that the clay clumping, although less tracking and dust as our previous brand, you have to scrape really hard to get the "liquid" clumps off the sides of the litter box....which then has to be washed much more often now as smells faster. Our go-to brand for years was arm and hammer, but for some reason, they must have changed their formula as more dust so we are actively searching for better. We have tried the Tidy Cats light weight (Purina) and although I am not a cat, I loved it as easy to scoop...however, there is so much tracking all over the house as it is light weight so after they go, it flies out of the litter box more easy than the clay. Also tried pellet litter, they seemed to not enjoy that as much and harder to scoop up anything.

Hi Mallory, It's nice to see a human who cares about felines. My No 1 reason for using the unclumping yesterdays news is * it's one of the only litter that you can pick out the few pieces that do stray from the box. Every other litter tracks all over the house. I have 3 cats and they always come and tell me when they have used the box. Most people don't listen or they only check the box at *their convince not the feline's. However it is a bit expensive. I change the box every 3 days as they are a part of the family and deserving attention.

As someone who can't use any silica or clay based litter ("dustless" still triggers my asthma), we have done well with sWheat scoop multi-cat and more recently, Okocat litter. I currently use at least one litter box of each type in my home, to give my cats options. World's Best cat litter is a good third option (I just haven't used it in a long time). I personally prefer the very mild pine wood smell of Okocat (not to be confused with pine-fresh), but Covid has made it harder to get more than one box at time in my area. And, I'm aware that not all cats may like it. But mine do! I prefer to get the super soft, over the original. The texture is comparable to sWheat scoop and other scoopable litters. One more thing: when we've had litter box issues (due to health issues) I've successfully used Dr Elsey's Ultra Litter Attractant (herbal). This is even though the container says not to use it with wheat or conventional pine litters. It does work. Maybe not as well as it might with their litters, but WORK it does!

We have used several cat litters since getting our new kittens 6 months ago. We've been using Fresh Step lately and it works great. The only litter we absolutely won't purchase again was A&H Slide. It seems like a great concept, and we did like the "slide" part of the litter, but after about 5 days, this litter began to smell ... and I mean really smell ... it permeated from the bathroom into the bedroon. I clean the litter boxes (we have two boxes) twice a day so it wasn't a matter of having dirty litter boxes. I use the extra larger litter boxes and so completely changing a giant box of litter every 5 days was both inconvenient and expensive. Thanks for another well researched video!

OK, so we've been using Dr. Elsie's litter for the last month, and at first I thought it was a winner too ... but, a couple things I have noticed over time will keep me on the hunt for a perfect litter. The first thing is that I don't feel it completely masks that used littler smell. It wasn't as bad as using Slide, but it was still noticable. The second thing, and really the worst, was that it became so dusty that every time I had to scoop out the used clumps I felt like I needed a respirator to protect myself (and I can only imagine how unpleasant it is for the kitties!). I've never had this experience with any of the other litters I have used.

Our household still prefers Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra clumping cat litter. We keep coming back to it for best combination of good clumping, low dust, low tracking and flinging. Any time I deviate, one of those factors suffers. I scoop once daily for two adult cats sharing two litter boxes. The cats are not comfortable with pelletized litter (foreign to them), and I committed to non-scented litter on my second purchase. I have tried a few other naturally occurring materials that clumped fairly well, but either dust, clinging, or flinging became unsatisfactory. The two downsides for us humans are the weight of the litter, and its rather spikey granules, but the cats don't seem to mind, and I think those characteristics contribute to the clumping and less scatter.

I mix two kinds. Eco friendly Naturally fresh walnut (alpine pine is the best scent) with Purina Tidy cats pine. The walnut is too dusty on its own & doesn't last as long. The pine helps make it softer. It's expensive but worth it. Cats love it and its good for the environment and easy to clean the boxes every month with soap and water. (Clay is terrible). I also use okocat.

Oh my Bob. I tried that years ago. My late Soren, who never pottied inappropriately except when he had a UTI, tried it. The box was too short, for one. Then he was so averse to the pellets that he got in the box, yelled, and then came over to me to poop on my foot.
@selenav19863 жыл бұрын
@@fuzzypumpkin7743 i generally like it bc it is pretty great at odor control. my biggest issue is the pee pads. the box says about 1 pee pad per week for 1 cat. but replacing it still has this overwhelming cat pee smell so i replaced it twice a week. i’d replace it more, but my garbage days are only 2 days a week. my next complain is yea, the original litter box is pretty small. my cat’s poops have sometimes ended up behind the box 🤦♀️also, recently i’ve opened 2 brand new litters, and a disgusting fishy smell came out of it. they’re not supposed to be scented. 1 bag, okay i guess it’s just a bad bag but 2 bags ?!?! my cat seems to prefer pellet litter but every time i research for pellet litter, people say the odor control isn’t great or it’s only great for pee and not poop or vice versa. i would LOVE to try pellets that aren’t meant for cats like wood pellets and they’re usually rly cheap but i love far from these places that carry them and i don’t have a car /: it’s a hard time finding good litter lol

Hi Mallory, I really like your review videos!! I’m not sure whether it’s possible to calculate average cost per daily/weekly use, rather than average cost per pound. Some litter is just less dense so they look more expensive if we use cost per pound. For example, suppose one bag of litter is 20lb and it costs $10. And after one weeks use, it consumes 2lb of litter. Then we can roughly calculate the price to be $$1/weekly use. Btw I don’t know if you have tested sWheat or not. But I’m currently mixing Sustainably Yours with sWheat orange bag. It turns out to be the best I can find: it’s lightweight and doesn’t track as bad as SY only.

Hi Sally, apologies for the late reply! Yes, absolutely-I've used the Litter Robot with both Dr. Elsey's and Fresh Step, as well as Arm & Hammer (not mentioned here) and all have worked quite well. We like Dr. Elsey's because it seems to have much less dust than the Fresh Step. We mix the two because our cats like Fresh Step and one freaks out whenever we try completely changing out litter brands (in fact, he refuses to use Arm & Hammer), but does very well with a mix of FS & DE brands.

I’m on the fence about Pretty Litter backed by Martha Stewart and Jackson Galaxy’s kitty litter. I just want whatever is the healthiest. Getting my first kitten in about two weeks. Or if there’s some other brand out there that’s better. I heard the softer the litter, the better for their paws. Also zero dust for their lungs. And all natural, preferred. I was surprised haven’t found anything online incorporating those things together.

What did you go with since I’m planning on getting a kitten hopefully within a month.

@@CandysChannel I quickly learned that everybody’s kitty is different. Mine did not like the one that I chose for her. It was a premium brand, clumped nicely, zero dust, and all natural. It was “Naturally Fresh Walnut” litter. She was going to the bathroom outside of the box, and just did not like that litter whatsoever. I have carpet, so this was becoming a problem very fast I needed it to be solved quickly. I was googling how to attract kittens to litter, and came across Dr Elsey’s “Kitten Attract” litter. They also have one for adult cats. Worked like a charm! She started using the box right away, and never went outside the box again. I suppose if you want to go with a more natural brand, you could slowly start adding it to whatever litter they do you use. I hope this helps!

One more cat litter(less) idea: Use a sifting cat litter box like Arm & Hammer's, and put a little dilute dish detergent under the grid. The soapy water controls odors and makes cleaning easier. Poop stays on top for easy removal and flushing with just a bit of toilet paper. Use a hose with spray nozzle to rinse the pan and grid in the bathtub or shower, to clean. Takes barely a few seconds. If your cat has been using pine pellets, start this litterless system with shredded pine (gerbil bedding) under and a bit on top the grid. Like pellets, it can be flushed, if care is taken not to overload the toilet. Gradually reduce the amount until none is needed and soapy water can replace it.

Just found your videos and found them very interesting and informative. We’ve been using Fresh Step y scented for a very long time. No issues till my 11 year old male was diagnosed with diabetes. His clumps in the litter box are huge! Extra effort to get them out and a bit messy. Plus they are sticking to the litter box. Using Okocat now but not 100% happy with it. Litter sticking to the scooper because I believe it’s not absorbing all of his urine. I’ve tried other litter with horrible results. Any recommendations?
@AllAboutCatsYT Жыл бұрын
Hey there! Welcome to the channel. I am not a big fan of any Okocat products, and I've tried a variety. Instead, I think you'll have more success with something very dense and tight-clumping; Sustainably Yours is a good "natural" option that doesn't stick much and tends to make tight clumps. SmartCat litter is similar. If you want to use clay, there are a lot of Arm & Hammer varieties that suit this job well, so those are worth trying as well. Wishing you and your kitty all the best!

@@AllAboutCatsYT Thank you for your reply and suggestions. We’ve tried Arm and Hammer before but it really didn’t stand out. We also tried Scoop Away for a while. We also need to stick with boxes with extra high sides because our boy sometimes does not scoot down enough.
@perfectication3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this! I have been working on switching my cats to the pine pellets because the boy just has MASSIVE pees (and poops) and goes through so much clay litter. Also, I was somewhat reassured to see what your cats poop looks like because the female has smaller "rabbit" pellet-like poops as I call them and I have read that cats are supposed to have sausage like poops, but even with pumpkin and extra water in her diet she continues to have small rabbit poops. PS - I would love to see a review on what your cats pees and poops look like on different diets. I feed my cats Wellness CORE wet food because of the rave reviews (and then mix in Tiki Cat and Pumpkin), but they almost seem to poop better on Fancy Feast. Weird request, I know haha. Thanks again for all your videos!

Don't know if you're interested or not, but I and my cats like Okocat super soft. A pine based scoopable, not pellets. Their original version isn't bad, either. Good luck! PS Have you talked to your vet about your rabbit pellet cat? My boy cat who used to do big (wide diameter) poop, often in balls, is considered chronically constipated and is now on Miralax added to his food.

Hey! I just reread your comment. And, realized I may have missed some red flags. If your cat is peeing a lot and frequently, you really, really ought to have him checked out by a vet asap! Even more so, if there had been any change in weight. It could be kidney disease or diabetes. (There doesn't have to be any weight change.) Those were the symptoms that let me know something was wrong with my cats. I now have one with diabetes and two in the beginning stages of kidney disease.

Liked your video evaluation of litter and litter boxes, nice job, I learn a little more regarding cat litter. I use a coat and blanket container because the big size of the coat and blanket plastic container it allows me to use a lot of litter which provides more lime before litter runs low however, motivation of my cat’s owner is the only negative factor but my cat will show his disappointment by straying away from his box and leaving his complaint usually where I have to walk, LOL… we use Costco’s cat litter. My cat is fed the Blue Wilderness with Chicken adult indoor dry food with lots of fresh water.

Hi Mallory, Love your channel and your useful info. I have a question - You mentioned at minute 4:58 that you can control scattering/tracking of the litter with using a litter box. what kind of litter box would that be? I have used the Tidy Cats Breeze system, and was happy with it, until I read the pellets can be dangerous to your kittens if ingested, which spooked me enough to use the same litter box system, with Peewee wood pellets (compressed wood pieces pellets or something) . but, those wood pellets don't work so well in a bit of a humid room, like our Serre (an extension of the house with less real insulation) so the pellets breakdown alot with just a little bit of moisture from the kittens pee. so I end up having to empty and refill, almost daily, rather than every few days when I keep it upstairs in a dry location. But I found it scatters, but not so bad. However, now I bought a new box and am trying something like the budget litter - like Fresh Step, and the kittens love it... but, it scatters soo much... and the Serre is located right next to the kitchen, so the kitchen floor is full going even up stairs too...it is really not nice. I need help. I would like something that does not scatter at all... Any options for that? Many thanks for your help!

One time I bought some of that Everclean Unscented Clumping litter from Chewy. When I started pouring it into my clean litter box, there was Definitely an Odor in the litter and it was supposed to "UnScented." So I immediately poured it back into the bag, and called Chewy about the litter. It definitely had a scent to the litter. Luckily Chewy gave me my money back on the litter. They didn't require me to send the litter back. That was nice of them. 😊So I use Tidy Cat Free and Clean Unscented Clumping cat litter. It's clay based but my cats like it and use it all the time. One time I even tried a different litter. I used one of those Pine Pellet litters, and even one of those Pine Shaving litters that doesn't have an odor. My cats wouldn't use either litter. So I just went back to Tidy Cats. I say stick with whatever works for your cat and don't spend tons of money on some expensive litter that your cat doesn't like, or won't use. As long as they use it, Don't Switch! 🛑 That's my philosophy! 😉

Love your videos! I’ve been learning so much especially when suddenly adopting two 5 week kittens. We’ve learned to use the litter box by using clumping litter which was left from my previous cats, but after I’ve learned that it’s not good for kitties I’ve been trying to switch them to anything natural (paper, tofu and pine litters.) But nothing seems to work. Anytime I try to switch things up - they go somewhere not in the litter box. Should I still keep trying or just let them enjoy the clumping one? Thanks ❤️

Hey there Greta, sorry about the late reply! Have you tried any plant-based litter with a similar texture and clumping style to clumping clay? Something like SmartCat's grass litter or World's Best Cat Litter might be a good match.
