Top 10 best cities to be Homeless in America.
Most people don't realize how many Americans are living on the streets or in shelters. It is a very sad situation. A good portion of this country is one paycheck away from being on the streets. The 2008 collapse showed us how bad it can be. I would never wish that on anyone but if it does god forbid ever happen to you, these are the cities you might want to make your way to and get some help.
If you are living in your car get some cheap car insurance and if you are in a desert town, make sure you have some sunscreen/sunblock.
.
Thanks for stopping by The world according to Briggs, I make lists. Not just lists of random stuff, I make them about states, cities, towns and other places in the United States. I post 3 times a week and sometimes live stream. Enjoy.

In my opinion, Parents should worry more about buying their children a home to live instead of saving for the children's college education. After all, it is easier to get college grants and school loans than getting a mortgage loan.

San Diego resident here. Yes, we have a fair share of homeless and yes, it's a great place to be without a home, I'm guessing. Mediterranean climate, not too hot, not too cold. We suck at driving in the rain. We also are a city with a lot of Canyons where people can camp relatively easy and we have a much more laid back police force than most of southern California, so that probably helps too.

Some of them stay in a geographical area while others follow the weather. Also check Workkamper or workamping. Org ( or it might be.com). I have been homeless but only for hours. Car camping to me isn't homeless I had plenty of money could afford hotels just wanted the freedom of car camping. There is a video of classification of the homeless there is sleeping rough, sheltered (salvation army, etc) doubled up(living with friends or relatives due to economic reasons) rubber tramping, I say as long as you have the earth you have a home just have to embrace her.

Very well put. But there are a lot of people who are homeless that don't have an addiction, and being mentally ill is not their fault. There are some people who are employed that are trying to get on their feet. But some ignorant people lump homeless people all together and have no heart or compassion.

There are as many reasons for homelessness as there are homeless people. My husband and I have been living in a shelter for two years now-as a registered nurse, we never saw this coming in our mid-50’s. Fortunately, we have been able to take care of many of our medical needs, I went back to work until I contracted Covid-since then, we’ve bought a vehicle, I’m actually on unemployment right now, I may have to take Covid retirement, and we’re saving our money for housing. It’s been a struggle, but we are so grateful today… oh, and just FYI-we’ve both been in recovery! My husband has been clean for 20 years, and me for 27. God bless… 🙏🏻

Ive been homeless at the NJ shore and in WV. West Virginia actually has a lot of ways that they help the homeless. In WV, i was able to get an affordable apt in a very short time. I worked with a non profit that helped get people into apts. No security deposit and since its cheaper to live here, I could make minimum wage and be able to afford my apt. I am now trying to move where there are more jobs. I would of never been able to do that if i never got out of my car. In NJ, i worked two jobs and still lived in my car. I also had the cops called on me for sleeping in an empty parking lot...

The tech companies didn’t cause the large SF homeless population. The fact that the local government refused to allow developers to build more housing in response to the influx of tech companies is what caused the SF homeless issue. Lots of people moved to SF for work but the supply of housing didn’t increase with the demand thanks to government regulations, thus prices skyrocketed and people were left homeless. Don’t blame the companies, blame the incompetent city government.

Dads Tennis Instructor the issue with rent control is that when you set a binding price ceiling, meaning you cap the price that land lords can charge for rent at a point lower than equilibrium, you end up causing a decrease in the quantity of apartments supplied accompanied by an increase in the number of apartments demanded. This creates a significant housing shortage. The only real way to lower housing costs in the long run is to make it easier for developers to build new housing by either slashing regulations or providing tax incentives.
@andytaylor5476
@andytaylor5476 5 жыл бұрын
I blame on greedy home owners with rental properties, anyone who rents housing to renters. They took advantage of the tech workers, they jacked up the rents so high that only the rich can live here. Some who were displaced became homeless. Yes we need more AFFORDABLE housing and it is happening. The whole state needs moe housing. It's not all local government regulations that created the economic/housing crises.

Yes I understand what you are saying, Ms Tammie. I live my life the same way. I go online, do some research, decide what city I want to conquer next, find temp agencies that are hiring, and I go for it. I'm a Loner enjoy being by myself without drama or any headaches. Life is short and I plan to make the best of it. I have visited 38 States probably and I've lived in 12 different cities. I have gone to some of them with a job without a job three or four thousand dollars in my pocket, and sometimes with only 500 but I've never been broke. Temp agencies are always a good way to make some fast money and most of them pay weekly, some daily. My family and friends have often asked me when I am I'm going to be stable. My reply is I'm stable at that moment while I staying in that particular city for however long I decide to stay. I'll be stable permanently when I'm six feet under, Amen. Been living "unconventionally" since 2001 Considering all the horror stories I've heard regarding shelters, I feel very lucky for how enjoyable my experience was (3years total). As for urban camping, yikes! On and off for the last 12 years, living in a tent in the woods, discretely, not causing any problems, not drawing any attention, being a good "guest." I packed out EVERY piece of trash. Everything "organic" was properly buried. I love it. It is hard, it requires income, and problem solving skills that most people don't have. And some luck. There have been situations that could have easily turned out differently. Such is life.

I have a friend who used to live in Honolulu during his days when he was homeless. It's no surprise it's such a popular city to be homeless in. I would also add that Charlottesville, Virginia, where we both live now, seems to be pretty good about helping those who are in need. There are surprisingly more nonprofits and and social programs than you can shake a stick at, so for people like me and him, it really has been a life saver. And since both of us are low-income, it's nice to know where we can go in the event we do end up homeless again.

I don't think there are many homeless people who fit in our "standard" view of the homeless. As a culture, we need to accept the fact that poverty is not a sign of moral weakness any more than wealth is a sign of virtue or God's favor. Life shits on some people through no fault of their own. Everyone needs to ask themselves, "Without the support of my family, how many paychecks am I away from becoming homeless?" Now think about the people who don't have a family.

How true! some people must have huge libraries of all the books they have read by merely looking at the covers. I've been homeless for nearly a year and we have waiting lists for anywhere from 2 to 8 years. I am Not mentally ill, or am I an alcoholic, or a druggy. I am a fellow American who is down and out on my luck and working to find a place of my own.

@Gin Rose Not really. I've known many who have charmed lives due to family wealth. Most of these youngish hipster kids are all from upscale and wealthy families who pay their steep rents when they move from bumfuck, Idaho to Brooklyn, NY or LA, California or San Fran or Seattle or some other large expensive city. Then you have the super rich foreign investors (Chinese, Russians, Euros) buying up super expensive, luxury real estate in these cities, therefore, pushing out all the middle and lower classes from neighborhoods due to gentrification and greedy developers constantly building luxury Condos, high rise luxury rentals, etc. Not to mention the Asians coming to Queens buying up all the 1 family homes for a million dollars then knocking them down and rebuilding a 3, 6 or even 9 family home on the lot!! Then, renting them out to more Chinese who can afford the ridiculous rents they charge ($2000 for a small 1 bedroom apt.).

Gotta get my own! RV, van, or camper! The games the management company played with people: people paid different amounts for rent for the same sized unit. People were being held to different rental requirements. When management wanted somebody out they would claim the unit needed to be revamped and was currently "unsave to live". People in general were told the rent was $2100 a month for 1st and last, 3x income requirement, a job requirement, and a good credit check, no evictions. Yet told "preferred tenants", $1200, a source of income that can cover it, a month to month basis, no evictions and credit was negotiable. "Preferred Tenants" was a legal term and left to the discretion of management. They did as they pleased! By keeping high standards then lowering these standards for "preferred tenants" they can legally have a policy of "discriminatory rental practices". 1 tenant that paid on time paid over twice as much as another tenant that was always late for the same unit.

I think homelessness can be reduced drastically if there was more affordable housing, and emergency housing. There's government housing, but the waiting lists are nuts. I think someone told me there's like a 5 YEAR waiting list in my city. I've been homeless myself and what I saw was a lot of working poor people being homeless, I'm talking entire families. There's next to no resources in the south.

I live in San Diego, born and raised. I used to run my dogs in the riverbed of the outskirts of the city. (WHAT WE CALL RIVERS in SAN DIEGO are mostly dry creeks) and I met hundreds of homeless over the years and became friends with many and would occasionally hire them as part time labor. Most drank or smoked weed out of boredom and lack of having a reason not to. They were on the most part content, as much as I was I guess. They all would get up at 4AM and have their own dumpster diving route and make a loop throughout their vicinity, collect cans, bottles, and whatever treasures they could from trash and cash in at recycle places. They would then stop at liquor store and head back to their camping area and spend the rest of the day playing cribbage or cards or whatever. I would walk by with my dogs and be invited to join them. They showed me where and how to dumpster dive for food. They had no refrigeration so they would give my dogs lots of goodies. My dogs are better than I did.

Really good video. Sometimes I watch and go; what? This is pretty good. Most of these areas I knew but Fort Worth was new to me. I work in a shelter, now as a manager for almost three years but I started as a guest/volunteer. In 07 I had a sort of crash/sort of awakening and I had to quit my job, get away from the domestic situation I was in. I've been sober since then. I used to drink a lot because I couldn't stand my jobs. For me this choice has been positive. The best thing about it is not having the expense of a vehicle and second not having rent. Things may change for me but I'm not real worried about it. At first I lived on my savings for about a year and did yoga everyday. Then I moved and planned to live on the street continuing my yoga practice, but I ended up here and this is working. Thanks for the video.

I spend 7 days a week passing out warm cookies, electric hugs, and homemade special blend coconut oil salves to the homeless. I go to every feed and from morning until my family comes home, I'm hanging out going tent to tent, crowd to crowd, checking in on all of my best friends. There really is only one major problem that these people face and it's called "the cops." They will be sound asleep, not bothering anyone, middle of the night, and the cops will raid their tents and force them to move within 20 minutes or face a $1000 fine for the corporate criminals they represent. Besides that, I think Monterey would make a great spot on your list. They offer amazing services out here. If only the cops would stop harassing these people, life would be fairly excellent for them.

I have a theory that most landlords play games to weed out African American tenants by having high rentals and high move in standards then lowering those same standards for everyone else. My theory is based on what I see and hear from Espanics also my own experiences when my dad was a manager, my experience living in other buildings and how I was expected to be a "crook, a gun for hire" as a manager for a gig I was trying to get. There are many homeless White Folks were I'm at in LA.

After watching the World According To Briggs for over a year I finally understand why I keep coming back. The information is decent, not really a hard hitting documentary, still informative. What Briggs is doing is forcing reactions out of people with humor and manipulation. I watched some of his old comedy and could see it plain as day there. The comedy in these videos and in his stand up is genius, yet unpolished. I think he may be downplaying his abilities to make it funnier. It is not easy for most people to understand it. Most of us don't like to think about comedy, we just want it handed to us with out thinking. He is forcing people to think with out saying so. That is just the opinion of this old comedy club bartender. Keep them coming Briggs.

It was around 1994 and I was drifting around the country, by choice. We had met in Nebraska and his group of Dead Heads spent two years living out of a VW bus en route to Indiana. Most of their 2 years were spent in Santa Cruz amongst many other hippies and homeless people. He had told me about the camaraderie and sense of community within their encampment. BTW Biggs I seriously doubt Fort Worth, Texas has saguaro cacti. No offense, I think that was an Arizona picture when you were describing it.

The city does allow you to bring a bicycle on the subway but you have to pay a $5 bicycle fee and that would be very going to be out there trying to make some extra money hustling scrap. However, they're both gone now and employers see that 8yr gap as excuses and laziness. It doesn't help that an accident took my balance, most of hearing, and caused cognition issues. If it wasn't for my church, I'd already be homeless. I'm putting in apps every week and applied for disability but if my church tired of me, it's over.

I'd like to see a list of the Top 10 best cities if you don't want to ever become homeless. I live in San Diego and there are many people who are just one setback away from being homeless and most of these residents have some employment. Homelessness here has only become widespread since the city demolished most of the cheap housing (SRO's downtown) and went on a tear allowing building only expensive luxury condos for outsiders with money. Tenants are just seen as ATM's for property investors, and so rents have been escalating faster then pay increases.

I live in Houston, Texas. I believe that Houston would be one of the worst cities to be homeless in in America. Just a thought.

In Las Vegas it is against the law panhandle in most areas. As of January 1st of 2020 it will be enforce that you can’t sleep on any public street, sidewalk, storefront/sidewalk, or any bridges if a bed is a available in a shelter.

@@haggiefatigue2971 There are little to No resources and the competition on the street for what is available can get nasty. There are huge rich churches that recieve food from the food bank just to sell it by the plate in their cafeteria. The people supposed to help you are beyond corrupt.

@Chaz Nonya Well, you just explained the Clintons. Fortunately, their run is over and they have no political heirs. Their political machinery will die with them.

I would think Olympia, WA would be somewhere on the list. In Olympia, if you are homeless and request services, the city law requires that they give it to you. It's a great place to be homeless.

I was homeless for 2 days in Las Vegas because I was moving to a new apartment and didn't have anywhere to stay in the meantime. I ,also, had a job and a car. They have a place where you can go eat which was disgusting. The people there were very rude, and the soup tasted like dish water. Never again. I would say this is one of the worst places to be homeless. When I lived in Reno, I would occasionally take a homeless person to get help and shelter. The difference was like night and day. The people were treated with respect and the food was decent.
