Game design is king, the engine only matters in terms of what its capabilities are. You can make an 8-bit simple pixelated game by yourself and if it's a fantastic game you have a chance at making good money off of it. Though luck will always play a factor in your game being discovered in saturated markets like Steam.

Marketing is not a matter of luck
@EspyMelly7 ай бұрын
@@leonardoraele Marketing mitigates luck by increasing the chances of your game reaching an audience as a multiplier to the game's natural appeal, and with smart marketing you can focus on the audience that you believe is most likely to enjoy your game, but it's no guarantee still. Otherwise games like Immortals of Aveum, having spent multiple millions of dollars on marketing, wouldn't have sold practically nothing and still be mostly unknown in the mainstream.
@Nebuchadin11 ай бұрын
Thing is, you can literally make any type of game in Godot. I've recently switched over from 4 years of Unity, and it's almost the same, Godot even has some capabilities that Unity doesn't. Only thing is that, since Godot is much less popular, there are a lot less resources to learn. Hopefully that changes soon. Great video man! Edit: I mean "Any type of game", graphical and performance limits are limited by not only your code, but also the engine. Still, as far as genres goes, anything (with obvious limitations) go.
@Nebuchadin11 ай бұрын
@@_v_m_ I get your point, but you stand on the premise, in this case alone, that a game "has to look good", and since Godot can't handle "really good graphics", the game can't be good. (I'm not saying you think like this at all, just taking the premise you said). But, just like having more instruments doesn't make better music, having better 3D graphics doesn't make a better game. I'm currently developing a sort of shooter + Tony Hawk + Bulletstorm game. 3D, and, since, like you said, you can't squish much performance from Godot, I'm working with a 3D artist to make simple, cel-shaded models, and have low fidelity graphics, sort of like Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. This does not mean the game will be bad, and doesn't mean that the game will look bad. This means, if we do a good job, the game will be fun and enjoyable and comparable to other games made with Unity/Other Engines. So, yes, it's really hard to do woodworking with a spoon, but a talented artist would only need the tip to make something beautiful.

I jumped ship to Godot earlier this year, and it only seems that the number of Godot resources is only growing 🤞🏽 This means more indie games made in the engine and more hits to bring folx to the engine

@Ash_1803711 ай бұрын
This simply wrong, you literally cannot make any game in Godot. Misleading people like this is actually counterproductive. In future you'd be far better saying something like Godot 4 is becoming more and more capable and can build a growing number of 2d and 3d games types. If you meant to say "almost any type of game" that would be much closer to the truth.
@Nebuchadin11 ай бұрын
@@Ash_18037 Hm, you're right I guess my wording is misleading. I obviously mean any type of game, as in genre. Graphical limits are there, of course, as well as performance limitations beyond your code. Edited the comment :D

I have number 8, and wanted to say without sitting down to learn the game it’s not possible to sit and play. It’s also not exactly a fighting game the way you think. You have to create the animation and that’s the “game”. You can go through frame by frame and add each portion of the fight then play it. But “playing” the game is the same as pressing play on a video. You make it up and then watch it.
