I have the 38mm 21 zuan (jewel I think) version and love it. Perfect size, looks great on a green nato, has real history behind it. Toss in the fact it's a mechanical chronograph, and it's a crazy deal at the price. Plus it's cheap enough, and they make enough of them, that you can wear it anywhere and not worry about beating it up, so on top of all the other stuff it has going for it, it has the "enjoy without worry" factor as well. Buy one. Buy one now.

Casio naming convention is pretty useful if you're around it for long enough, it says a lot about the watch. Starts with 1, 2, or 3 characters indicating the series (Usually followed by a hyphen). EQS seems to be the solar edifice chronographs. The # indicates the watch model, watches with the same # would pretty much have the same case, crystal, module/movement. Letters after that indicate major distinctions. An L means it's on leather, a D means it's a bracelet. A B means it's black pvd. The characters after the final hyphen indicate the colorway and region. EQS seems to be a big lineup of solar edifice watches. There's a ton of irregularities throughout the lineup of a billion watches they sell, but it's remained pretty consistent for 50 years now.

Thank you brother! I have still yet to cover Traser, from what of I have seen so far, cracking watches. May I ask which model you have?Best regards, TGV
@astrogen19606 жыл бұрын
@@theurbangentry Yes, I bought the Green Code, which I don't think is available anymore. I got a stellar deal on it from Marc at Long Island Watch about a year ago. My decision was between that and a G-Shock. I chose the Traser because you don't have to push a light button at night to get the time, and it is also quite visible in direct sunlight, which sometimes washes out an LCD display. The Nato strap it came with wasn't great which is the only drawback, but, as you know, is an easy fix. Btw, I finally discovered that one of The Saint's watches was a Bulova, the other was an Omega. They didn't really showcase his watches very much, but I just happened to catch glimpses while marathon watching one weekend.

Great beater watches, so tough and reliable. I've got a tritium H3 that I've used as a work watch (building and renovation work) for years. It's an H3 GWS G10 from militarywatchshop.co.uk - Ronda movement, very simple and legible. The case is a bit scared and I'm on my 2nd or 3rd strap but the crystal is absolutely spotless. I swear it's been literally covered in cement that's set solid, smeared with silicone, soaked in paints, solvents, you name it, even bashed and scraped across concrete and brick countless times. I just chuck it in a basin of soapy water every evening and scrub it with a nail brush and its ready to go back on. Needless to say the lume is still going strong too. Such an unassuming watch but an absolute star that I've grown to appreciate more with every ding and wash. 👍🏻
@astrogen19606 жыл бұрын
@@pedrotonk Wow, you really pushed it hard and I'm glad to know I can push mine further as well. Bit of a dark horse suggestion here, but I've really been enjoying my William L 1985, a very affordable quartz chronograph with several vintage styling cues, including telemeter and tachymeter scales. 40mm with applied arabics, running seconds and 60 minute subdials and a date complication. It's a $200 watch with closer to a $150 street price, but it seems to go on sale with some regularity for around $64 at a popular web-based watch retailer that begins with a "J" an ends with "shop". Astonishingly good value at that sale price. ETA: I would describe it as a poor man's Undone Killy. I know many would consider the $265 Killy itself to be a value watch, but for those of your subscribers who traffic in the lower price echelons of watch collecting, it's a worthy choice.

Awesome video TGV! So nice to see the Bulova Lunar Pilot mentioned. Any chance of you doing a review? I own the black version which has no date and the "old school" Bulova logo instead of the stylized current one. It's an incredible value for money in such a historic piece. The caseback with it's engraved coordinates of the EVA that it was worn on is also super cool. I definitely think it deserves more attention!

Thank you Alex, I have considered reviewing it. I know a few that own them. I guess it is just a matter of time (pun partially intended) Keep enjoying yours my friend. Best regards, TGV

I’d have to nominate the Citizen Proximity BZ 1000-54E TGV. It’s not only a watch that bluetooths to your phone for notifications, but it’s also has chronograph functionality, dual Timezone feature and looks very stylish (imho) also. It is a larger watch with a larger bracelet, but i absolutely love mine and admire it daily.

I would pre-order a 39mm Bulova Lunar Pilot today if it existed, and I don't think I'm alone. Not sure if the movement really needs the extra space, but if there's any way they could squeeze it into a smaller footprint, it would sell like hotcakes. (The DLC version looks best, imo.)

OMG, so would I, SO WOULD I!!! Are you listing Bulova!?!? You are spot on Tim, thank you sir. Best regards, TGV

Unfortunately, according to Bulova the addition of the chronograph complication to the UHF movement dictates the size. I've been wearing this one as my work watch (law enforcement) for the last year and it's been outstanding. It well lives up to the accuracy claims, with mine running +8 seconds for the year. With a 7.5 inch wrist I can carry it off, but I certainly sympathize with those concerned about the size. In fairness, the original does feature a 43mm case, so it isn't exactly small either. However, it's a shame Bulova couldn't shrink it to at least 42mm.

Dude you won't be the only one. I would preorder that thing the moment it hear about it if its the same quality/pricepoint as the current huge lunar pilot. I don't even think the movement is that important considering that it is a quartz and not modeled after the Valjoux 72 that was likely used (or modified) for the real Bulova Moonwatch. But oh god imagine if they released a Valjoux 72 movement reissue of the Bulova Moonwatch sized around 39 or up to 40mm. It might be the watch of the year.

It’s a true reissue, minus the movement it’s pretty accurate to the original. I have the same problem, to big for my wrist but if it were any smaller it wouldn’t be a moon watch in my eyes. I had one and with the nylon strap it looked smaller then on a bracelet but the lug to lug is what makes it huge.

I like the size of the lunar pilot since i am a big dude 😁 and it suits perfectly my wrist but i get it not everybody likes "chunkier" timepieces, cheers

I really enjoy your channel. I grew up in a small town in Illinois half a mile from the Westclox factory I started buying a few of those and that’s where hobby began for me.

All great choices, that Seagull looks like a killer piece always wanted to try one out. The Bulova is a sweet piece to. If your on a budget I'd recommend Heitis, they have a sweet chrono for 180 bucks ? I've reviewed them and the owner of the company DJ is a pretty laid back dude.

I didn't even get completely through the video before picking up a Bulova Lunar Pilot. You sir are bad for my bank account.

Sal Esposito not too bad though, I bought a Seiko Alpinist after watching his review a good few years ago, after owning it and never really liking it I sold it and doubled my money. He tends to pick up on watches that won’t lose you much money if you buy one and sell it later.

I have a Seiko SSC017 solar chronograph from 2012. Purchased for well under $300. With its screw down crown and pushers, it is one tough watch. Keeps fabulous time.

Daniel Nicholls maybe he can play where’s Hugo in each of his videos. Kind of like where’s Waldo. The winner gets a free nato strap. There’s plenty of places for him to hide, that’s for sure.

I love this list, but I'm going to have to buy about half these watches in short order or I'll go crazy. I'm not surprised to see the Flighty at the top, but I think the Bulova might be the sleeper here! The accuracy is incredible for any amount of money spent, and it comes in brushed, polished, or black cases and with date/no date options. These seem to commonly be under $300. Strong argument for a one watch collection!

Absolutely fantastic list! I love my Swatch Irony chronograph. With its powder blue sunburst dial and stainless steel case and the contrasting satin-brushed and polished links on the bracelet, the silver and black sub-dials. it's definitely the dressiest swatch I've ever experienced and just looks and performs wonderfully. And of course being a Swatch its super affordable.

I had they Edifice EQS-500DB-1A1ER too and liked it - but the Edifice Bluetooth series tops it! Sadly my EQB-500L-1AER is a 47mm watch - a reason why I sold my first - but it wears much smaller and is so comfortable - the reason why I bought one again 😉. They are around 300,-€ MSRP and can be found down to 160,-€ which is insane for what you get!!! What I missed was the Swatch Chrono! You as a Swatch fan never had a Chrono? - You should get one soon!!! I was wearing my MUIB400 "Mr. Chrono" for nearly 10 years as my only watch and its got beaten up while loading my truck. The watch is still deadly accurate and one of my pieces that never will leave - to many memories and stories are on this watch... The quality of Point Tec is really great - I owned a Night Cruise with a Miyota automatic movement and was impressed from the finish! Only reason why I sold it, it feels to big... BTW I‘ve got an 8" wrist, but prefer watches from 36 to 40mm and wear from 30mm to 47mm 😉😇

Just getting around to this video: Great list, can't argue (much) with it. A few thoughts: - Glad you gave Edifice a mention: my favorite of the entire line (in fact, the only quartz number in my small collection) is their EQSA500DB-1A (yeah, they *really* need to improve their model designations…had to actually look it up online to write this), which has virtually every feature your Edifice has, but with a far-less "busy" dial-in fact, it manages with just two subdials as opposed to three, giving it an almost-classic vibe IMO. Also, even though my watch supposedly has a mineral crystal, I've yet to scratch the thing, and this watch gets tons of wrist time , so it doesn't get babied. - I know you were covering new timepieces here, but I'm giving a shout to an old number I've had for a few years, which not only was a mechanical chrono I could snag for well under $500, but one of the few automatics with a true pedigree: Seiko's 6139-7140 "blue eye." About to have it given the once-over by Seiko, while they still have the means to properly do it. - Agree with everyone about the Bulova: fabulous design, but that case size is a total dealbreaker. What were they thinking? Make one between 40-42mm and they won't be able to keep up with demand. - I always liked the Seiko "Flighty", from the year it was introduced, but could never pull the trigger on one, and now I know why: at first, I thought it was because of all the aviation-centric stuff I thought I'd never have use for (and didn't want to pay for), but my real objection was the "information density" of the dial: there's just a bit too much going on. Even a Breitling Cosmonaute seems a tad more legible by contrast. ('Course, as an old guy, my eyes aren't as keen as they once were, so there's that.) Again, great job, TGV!
