You, young man, have given me more than a little joy the past few years. I exited mid 50's and officially entered into late 50's this year. I have always worn a watch but never had an appreciation for what was on my wrist. You changed that for me. After watching this segment I realized what an influence you've had on my modest watch collection; I have the Seiko aviator, the Pepsi diver, the 5, the Bambino, the DW-5600 G-Shock, the Hamilton Khaki plus a Hamilton Myron and a Timex 100. I have always been a vinyl record collector, but you have shown me a new avenue that draws my attention...cheers.
@rlock734 жыл бұрын
You raise a good point, he must of influenced me too, my modest and poor man's collection includes, Seiko 5, Casio Data Bank (calculator), Orient (Open Heart), and a few vintage Elgins (celebrating my American Heritage). all I need is a good non- Rolex swiss timepiece.

@@unconquered898 Read what I wrote on this video. I fuking adore the fully restored manual wind Oris pieces I have. They aren’t worth allot but who cares, not every watch is about a solid gold Rolex investment watch. Most solid gold Rolex’s spend their lives in a safe. P.s. Oris made some very cool manual wind pieces in the 70’s 70-79. Some of the dial/hand colors are awful for my tastes but some are fantastic.

That Victorinox Infantry is really a hidden gem. I bought the automatic version with eta 2824 movement for about 350$. It really gives you the feel of a well made swiss piece. Accuracy is +3 sec/day which is way better than my seikos. I would say that it considerably reduced my itch for wanting a rolex right now, at the same time increased my respect for swiss manufacturing.

LB33 I'm thinking of buying the SNK809 too by the start of July! It will be my first automatic watch as well but I'm confused between this and the SKX007. I know these two are both very different watches but I'm fascinated by both and want one that would go with every occasion. Given the fact that I'm a recent college graduate I need something that I could wear at work as well as casual outings, which one would you recommend? Is the SKX809 treating you well?

@hughmungus15727 жыл бұрын
Don't know if you meant to adress creeps inc or me... If you adressed me, I'm sorry for being late, I just read your comment. The SKX809 are both great watches (like almost every Seiko). And they actually aren't too different (from a specs standpoint). Both have a 7s26 movement and hardlex crystal. So it's mostly the size, the water resistance and of course the design that distinguishes them. Since your comment is already 2 weaks old, I suspect you have already decide which one to buy...?
@pratikkarmiani93877 жыл бұрын
LB33 yes I reckon I meant to address 'creeps inc' but replied to your comment by mistake. I'm still thankful for your reply though and thanks for the input as well. You are right, I have made up my mind to buy the SNK809 first. Might get the SKX007 later someday. Since this will be my first automatic watch, the fact that It has a exhibition/ display case back is a big plus for me. I'm pretty excited to get my hands on it :)

I absolutely love my DW5600. I wear it every day, as a scientific glassblower working with extreme heat and other hazards it withstands everything I throw at it and I use almost every one of its features regularly. I love mechanical watches, both the engineering behind them and their aesthetics, but my g-shock gives me something that I can be proud to wear just about anywhere until I can afford to start a real collection. For something like $45 that's one hell of a watch imo.

This is not relevant to this specific video but I started to relize that why I appreciate smaller watches more than bigger ones. I know that I think they look better but when they are smaller it feels like they are much harder to make and the details looks so amazing when it's on a smaller scale. By just looking at the details holding it with my hand fascinates me and makes me happy. I don't know if someone understood that haha. Great video as always! :)

Now I bought Huawei watch GT, as the fitness band I am using along with Fossil broke. From practicality point none of the automatic watches makes sense. I can justify buying them like a jewellery. Just before Christmas I picked up a Citizen Eco Drive 5551-06L on Amazon. The watch lists regularly (on Amazon) for $450 but they had a "lightning deal" on it for only $125 ... I couldn't resist at that price and I LOVE the watch. The 06L is the leather strap version and I hate leather straps for watches that I wear a lot, they stretch, they smell from sweat and skin oils after a while and eventually they just rot to bits if you wear them all the time. Which puts a nice watch in jeopardy of loss or damage. So I put an aftermarket metal bracelet on it. At the price I paid for the watch I don't mind the cost of the bracelet. I don't mind leather bands on watches I don't wear a lot, like dress watches. I have a gold case/gold face Seiko 7T32-7C60 that came with a nice gold bracelet but I put a black alligator leather band with a gold butterfly deployant clasp on it and it looks great for "dress up" with slacks and a sports jacket.

I bought my SNK805 Seiko 5 a year ago based on your recommendation. I upgraded with a Luftstrap elastic wrist band. It's a beautiful watch that has worked flawlessly. I've had it on the Appalachian Trail, worn it in my workshop, and even in a suit and tie and it's never looked out of place. I'm always surprised that I can leave it on the shelf while I am asleep and it's still keeping perfect time when I wake up. It did run down once when I caught COVID and didn't wear it for a couple of days but the hands started moving again the moment I picked it up. A few turns of the crown and it was keeping time perfectly again. I've accidentally banged into things and it appears completely undamaged. As my eyes get older it's getting harder to read the numbers but since it has hands I don't actually need to read them to tell time which is great.

Haha, VERY true. I am like a pit stop team at an F1 race, I get quicker and quicker. I have to confess, I change straps during the day and sometime several times a day LOL. Thank you Tom, I am sure it will get quicker with time. Best regards, TGV

I have A Tissot PR100, a Casio and 3 Swatches from your Top ten. But then I have 2 Invicta automatic ProDivers, a Stuhrling, a Burett Chronograph, a Genovese, and 2 rectangular mechanical Folios. I've had countless Seiko 5's when I was a kid and Citizen automatics but have lost them. I love your Top Ten list here. Will definitely add several to my guilt-free accumulation. And when I go to India, give them away to the monks and sadhus there.

I have always had a very soft spot for the classic Mondaine watches, loving the clean look to them. Could you recommend them? Thanks.

I have one. given to me as a gift some years ago. It's styled to look just like their Swiss rail clocks. I reckon it's a design classic. The leather strap is one of the best I've ever worn. Very comfortable and very accurate. If anything ever happened to it I would buy the exact same one as a replacement. Thumbs up from me.
@joshwalker40837 жыл бұрын
Yes it's that classic design I saw on the clocks whilst skiing and I instantly wanted one. I will have a look at their leather straps as well. thanks for taking the time to reply!

I started with a Simply Pure (SVGK402) Swatch automatic then the Seiko 5 SNKL23, plus a BALTIC Bicompax 001 and then my beloved SQUALE 1545, … And today I'm hunting Vintage 1950-69 Omega Seamaster… What a journey ! 😃

I’m absolutely loving one A couple that I picked up recently in this price range: Momentum’s Smokejumper (Limited Edition version of the Atlas 44). SS case with a Seiko movement, sapphire crystal with AR. I’ve had nothing but divers, but this field watch kind of stole my heart. I got it for $200 CAD. I also picked up another Momentum, the Superstorm 500, used, but there’s plenty of models out there that use the same case/movement combo, and that’s the Divex Offshore 500/Apeks 500 Dive/Aqua Lung 500 Pro which all look like they’ve used a Tauchmeister case and quartz movement from their entry level 500m dive watches. Big and chunky steel case with a shrouded bezel, surprisingly good lume and solid movement, I’ve seen them brand new for around £110. Love the videos!

I have a fossil arkitek ch2869, it's a wonderful watch plus it's roughly 150 dollars.... what do you think of the fossil brand?
@zzyzxzee63745 жыл бұрын
Antonio Banchetto fossil is a dress watch usually with cheap movements. Stay away from dept stores and malls

Have the Seiko 5 SKN 809 now for about 5 years and it's great! Use it at work and it really is robust (which is important for me). Love it! Also was my first "real" watch.

swatch is cool, but i hate their lug design. It limits us when choosing straps
@theurbangentry7 жыл бұрын
VERY true indeed. I prey they come release something with better lugs. Thank you, Best regards, TGV
@claytonberg7217 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there's a couple that I might have bitten on if they were using springbars.
@asianbboy9117 жыл бұрын
To be honest I suspect that swatch makes some of its money off of people by cutting off 3rd party straps and forcing people to buy their straps.

Ive seen some where the owners dremelled off the midle lug leg and convert it to a regular 20mm lug

I could easily get carried away with this watch stuff. I can’t let it be like when I decided I needed a night vision monocular. This video is great though! It’s nice to see that there are great watches out there for not a lot of money. I’ve had a Luminox 3000 for 14 years and it’s still going strong. Next paycheck I’m going to pick up a Seiko 5 for my first automatic. I also think the Marathon General Purpose Mechanical tritium looks cool also. I’m figuring the Luminox for kayak fishing, Seiko 5 for general wear and maybe the Marathon for camping. Fun stuff!

The Urban Gentry Indeed! I totally agree with the top ten. Realized the watches on your list in this range are the ones I own as well. Speaks to their value for money and horological pedigree in the said price range. And how much I watch the channel! I would like to mention a very functional travel watch from Casio. The AE1200Wh. The octopussy's Bond Seiko aesthetic with a ton of features! Can't beat that for under 30 bucks IMO! Cheers!
@speycah7 жыл бұрын
I bought one last week, now I can't take it off my wrist while my Flightmaster is sitting in the drawer - I think it's the perfect beginner's watch. Buy an AE1200, a NATO strap of your choice and a spring bar tool and you'll have fun for days. All for $50, an absolute steal.
