Reading through your replys, your quite interested in how much people think it would be worth? I'll quote myself; "I think about $5k+ for a self contained bike camper is reasonable. I don't expect luxury, but the luxuriant experience isnt the bed or kitchen, its taking it to a totally awesome place. somewhere you dont get with your RV. a bed and hot food. excellent veiw." My dad got a late 80's era caravan for $8k recently. needs some work, but serviceable. weighs a ton, ugly, but hey, dry, can cook. need a 4x4 or big sedan to tow it. I'd go with #2. $5k AUD is about $3,600 usd, so in the ballpark. I wouldnt want to live in it, but for weekend, there and back trips, perfect. get into discrete places, looks like you could add some features, n have some real fun with it.

Niceish in the winter in the southern US with a good heat source... Maybe. During the summer with unlimited power in the sun... No. Put up a reflective tent over the top with a few good fans near the bed and you might stay the night. Maybe...

As a tugger, I'll chime in. My first build was a monowheel using a pto universal, a Contico plastic truckbox, one Chevy truck shock, a 12" scooter wheel & tire, long cabinet door pulls for top loading, bicycle kickstand and led trailer lights. It pulled so well, I'd forget it was there and as I like to shred the twisties, I'd grind the outer corners a bit on the road. My present trailer is a 4x4 Harder Fate with aluminum shower stall railings, topped with 1x4 varnished lumber, an 18 cu. ft. cartop carrier, in which is a 4-season, 4 man tent, a small tent for gear, full camping ensemble, alcohol Penny stoves & 1 hikers propane, extra tarps and 550 cord for making a floor and overhead vestibule as a porch, led lighting all around, tablecloths and sleeping pads and bags. It's about 45-60 minutes to set up everything and with the low center of gravity, I can throw sparks off my running boards in the hills and she just follows obediently! If you build up a Chinese trailer DO NOT run the bearing grease they come with, repack with real grease!

@@MustSeeTech Camped on & off, but got into real motocamping. thru my riding buddy, maybe 17 years ago as we'd shred twisties in North Georgia, but wanted to go further up in the mountains, which was too far. So we built trailers and hitches, and our perfect weekends were ride up Fridays, make camp somewhere, sat. mornings leave the gear and all in camp and go throw sparks all day. Sun. morning we'd take into the afternoon to strike camp, just lazy day and then ride home. "If the boards ain't sparkin', you're just parkin!"

Find a great single-wheel suspension trailer and have it modified to carry whatever gear you want to take with you. The recumbent is already limited to where you can ride so pulling a trailer should be much more of a hassle, anywhere your bike can ride you can pull a trailer.

Sleeps two people but where is the second person going to ride ? I guess they have their own ebike. Pretty soon when the fuel runs out we will all be pedaling. I love the idea and I have a ebike ,,,,,,, but I'm not sure how far away I would want to Pedal along with a little camper trailer. I would have to recharge my bike somewhere. Charging points in the woods? I'm from Missouri and people do not have much respect for tractor trailers on the road , not to mention a bicycle. Enjoy riding my bike but dealing with people in cages is not easy. Usually means a short ride. But when the gasoline is gone it will be a different story.lol

The biggest problem with most of these is that they're packing a lot of real estate on the sides. No matter how light or heavy they are, you get a decent side-gust, and you're going to be spending your vacation in the hospital.

Hi there. I did find some statistics for bicycle trailer-related accidents. They were really not numerous, but I am not sure how many of those were camper-trailers.
@brianbassett43793 жыл бұрын
Wind can be a big problem but that's not the biggest problem with these trailers. The mass being dragged by an unloaded bike is the problem. With 100 lbs. of trailer weight the physics of bike riding changes significantly... it's amplified just like with side winds. I pull a trailer behind my bike a fair amount of the time, and it can weigh in at 90 lbs. but I am pulling it with a fully loaded bicycle. Stay safe. - photos.app.goo.gl/ADgC6oyPM2gyrCq27

Those are very well engineered trailors, but I am very doubtful about the practicality of the very concept of a bike camper! I am just back from a little 1000km bike trip on my recumbent, with 20kg gear: hiking tent (3kg), air mattress, sleeping bag, clothes, food, drink, cooking gear... After having cycled 80-120 km at around 6PM, it takes me at most 20 mn to have my tent ready for sleep (unpacking, pitching, inflating...). I suppose I would loose much more than 20 mn pulling my trailor all day, not talking about the discomfort of feeling slow, noisy and lacking agility, plus not being able to ride on narrow earth tracks that Google Maps indicate as cyclable. I do think that a mono-wheel trailer could be a plus in my equipment, since the most tedious part of the day is the morning careful packing so everything fit in the panniers with a limited volume, but I would be very interested to get feedback of some users of a camper during a raid of several days! Do they regret their purchase?
@MustSeeTech2 жыл бұрын
Wow. 1000 km on bike, nice! How long did your trip take? P.S. hope people will share their experiences with these in the comments!

@@MustSeeTech 11 days, so average 90Km/day, which is a bit low for good roads and weather conditions. Most raider I come across are between 80 and 100. My previous raids where more around 100km/day but I try hard to end the cycling earlier in the day to take profit of the evening. Depending on my legs, I'm between 17 and 23 Km/h on flat roads, but I make MANY stops to enjoy my time. That's why I doubting of the relevance of a trailer: If I'm effectively pedaling 6h/day but loose 30% speed, that's means "loosing" almost 2 hours just to avoid to pitch a tent. OK you get more comfort while sleeping, but you loose so much while riding!
